Wrestling Toys (Mattel WWE, Jazwares AEW, etc.)

Man, that was a tremendous reply. Thanks for that. I appreciate it.

There are some things I’ll definitely address later. But I’ve just been summoned to help with a 25 lb bird for some kind of feast tomorrow, and I better not incur any spousal wrath. :)

But lately, it seems I’ve seen a lot of disparaging remarks made with regard to religion and politics, etc. And it’s kind of a turn off. 😕
Like I said... lots of lefties around here that are 100% going to call it like they see it. The thing about here is, you can ignore all that if you like. Or you can put your side of it in there if you disagree. Feel free to make fun of atheists, too. We don't mind. I guess the best way to put it is: PEOPLE can be protected from abuse. Beliefs shouldn't be (and won't be around here). You're just as free to take a big ol' crap on anyone's opinions or sincerely held beliefs as they are yours. Equal footing. You just may find yourself a bit outnumbered here. But you are welcome to contribute.
But if you genuinely think people are stepping out of line, there's levels of mods you can talk to. I'm around probably the most, but I'm also the most lefty and easily the least sympathetic to 'someone made fun of my religion' concerns.
But BoyWonder is way more even-keeled. And TSI even moreso. So you've got support if you genuinely think something not okay is going on.

Being in Canada, you would be shocked at how long it took me to figure out what in the hell you were talking about with this.

Lots of new reveals for WWE figuers went up today on TNI and probably other places. I don't really think there was anything in there I'm too interested in. Trying very hard to stick to just a few classic favorites. Selfishly, I'm still hoping Edge goes back to WWE because they STILL never made any modern figures of him in his debut attire, which is one of my favorites.

Something that doesn't get talked about as much with Hogan, and this doesn't excuse anything about him but I think it's relevant context, is that his livelihood in his later life was secured by that Gawker lawsuit, and that lawsuit was funded for him by Peter Thiel as a way to get revenge on Gawker for outing Thiel. So there's a sense that Hogan's conservative activism was kind of a gilded cage situation, which again, doesn't excuse it, but I find it sad that his choices took him there. And obviously that has nothing to do with his openly stated racism or his apparently willful shattering of his relationship with his daughter or him trying to protect his son from consequences of the accident Nick absolutely caused; Hogan repeatedly seems to have made awful and damaging choices, often seemingly to preserve his lifestyle.

The anecdote I keep thinking about with him is Mark Henry talking about how after the tape came out he tried to convince Hogan to go on a tour of HBCUs with him to have some frank discussions about racism and maybe get Hogan to a healthier place. I don't know specifically why he told Mark no or even if the idea would have worked out all that well, but weirdly that's kind of how I remember Hulk now? As someone who apparently had a friend looking out for him and had chances to be better, and instead decided to be a grifter to keep the lifestyle he was accustomed to. That'd be monstrously sad even if it wasn't someone a couple generations of kids had grown up idolizing.

I think he'll end up back there eventually if even just as a Legends deal. I can't imagine the merch payouts for AEW come close to what he'd be getting from WWE, but he still wants to be in the ring and be featured, so I get it. But eventually there's just gotta be a point where he's ready to hang it up, and that's when you let the merch checks roll in.

The reveals were alright for me, but my bar isn't super high: updated Elite Roxanne alone would have been enough for me. I'll also be glad to get an Ultimate Rhea that's not paywalled behind a $100+ ring.

I've -heard- (may not be true) that merch percentages are better at AEW, which may help with the overall sales being lower. Also, AEW talent tend to have way more freedom to just do whatever. Copeland has a lot of irons in the fire and he's straight up rich beyond any of us these days. The guy is worth anywhere from 10-15 million and even at AEW his merch sales probably cover a good chunk of his monthly expenses. He doesn't -have- to do anything for the money at this point.

I think a Legends deal will happen, but probably more for clout than money. Which means who knows when he'll feel the need to sign something like that. Also really hard to say right now where he's at professionally. Is he done? Is he just on another break? Is he gearing up for one last legit WWE run before he retires? Who knows. His exit from AEW was VERY fucking weird and abrupt, and happened right when he was finally working programs with Christian again, which is what he said he wanted to do at the end of his career (even before he left WWE). It's all very weird.

I'd be more interested in a new Roxanne if Mattel didn't insist on using that fucking anorexic body style they've used for the women since the beginning of the line.

Thanks for the reply.

Hulk objectively was not a good guy? Huh.

I knew Hulk a little bit. Jimmy Hart and Tony Atlas more so. And Gene Okerlund as well (again, to a lesser degree than Jimmy). And, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many, many wrestlers over the years at an annual show in the Northeast.

Every single one of them defended Hogan.

But before I continue, when you say “we are past the point of giving Trump supporters, let alone ENDORSERS, a pass,” who is we?

Is this board reserved solely for followers of one type of ideology? I happen to be smack dab in the middle, for what it’s worth.
As Damien covered, "we" as in the Leftists of this board, of which I think is fair to say, a majority. At least a vocal majority. I'm assuming judging by your reaction that we have a birds of a feather situation, and you are also a Trump supporter, or at the very least, a voter. You and I will not get along. I've lost family and friends thanks to this administration. And I don't mean just in the sense of me voluntarily cutting them off--I mean, quite literally affected by. So, if this is something you still tolerate and celebrate, I repeat...we won't be friends. I especially don't tolerate people who say they're in the middle because that generally tends to be the biggest crock of shit. That just screams "I voted for Trump, and I'm too afraid or embarrassed to admit it".

But again, as mentioned, that is what the ignore feature is for. If I'm too harsh for you, use it. No skin off of my nose.

But back to the main crux of this: Stating that Jimmy Hart, the man who suckled at the teat of Terry Bolea through thick and thin, and Foot Fetish Tony being some that defended Terry aren't the greatest of examples of people to give your argument any weight. They're carnies and grifters themselves, and grifters respect the grift.

You are purposefully obfuscating the many transgressions of one Terry Bolea: his betrayal of other wrestlers in regards to the formation of a union, the politicking, the racial slurs, and awful things he said about the person his son damn near killed, the cheating on his family, and yes, aforementioned support of someone actively separating families.

So, defend the man all you'd like. Turn the blind eye to what he's done. And sure, maybe he never murdered his baby boy and wife like Benoit, but don't sit there and with your full chest act like he was a good fucking person. Give me the biggest fucking break.

Moving on from the absurdity that is this conversation.

Well, I’m trying to be cordial. There’s no way we’ll see eye to eye about Hogan, but there’s no reason why we can’t engage civilly on other topics. And if we disagree, I’m cool with it.

Locked in my PO for Giulia, but iffy on Stephane Vaquer. The legs at the hip look odd.

I'm shifting back to WWE figures more and more since AEW seems dead in the water. Would love to see more iterating and reinvention. Would give me some optimism for DC. Line is such a hassle to collect in Canada, though.

Really tempted by Ultimate Razor Ramone at my EB.

Where are they up? Ringside doesn't have them listed yet.

I'm only a WWE Superstars guy, currently hunting the Steiners/RVD/Hurricane wave. Not sure if they've actually hit retail in any sort of numbers yet but when I see a new wave on the 'bay I always start looking. Really looking forward to Demolition soon as well.
