U.S. Politics

There's no sugar coating how vile that Supreme Court ruling is. It's basically allowing the US Government to partake in human trafficking. What else is it when they're abducting non-criminals off the street and sending them to a country they've never been to and stashed in a forced labor camp? Just absolutely sick and evil shit going on in this country.

Remember how Obama allowed a supreme court seat to be taken from him because he refused to call out Republican corruption?
Yeah, that was a really cool decision.
Remember how Ruth refused to step down, despite being ancient as fuck, during a Dem presidency so she could be replaced by a non-conservative judge?
Yeah, that wasn't selfish and utterly devastating.
Remember to thank some Democrats for all the hard work they do making sure the Republicans get to be as evil as they want to be without any checks or repercussions.

The Obama surrender of a Supreme Court appointment will potentially go down as the most damaging show of weakness the Democrats have had in our lifetimes. Collectively rolled over and showed their bellies rather than fight.

Watching the president yelling at another country to stop bombing on social media this morning has been a delight. Governance by Truth Social post. Pathetic behavior. He'll always play lapdog to stronger, more capably violent leaders because he wants to be them and he'll always just be Grover Dill to other bullies Scut Farkus, only, y'know, with mass deaths.

I can forgive honest mistakes - even when they have terrible consequences. But the mistakes Dems have been making for like 2 decades now have practically always been met with masses of people screaming about how terrible of a decision it is and exactly what the consequences will be. They can't just pretend they acted with best intentions and had no idea this would happen. We ALL knew this would happen, and if you didn't then you shouldn't be in fucking politics making decisions that impact the lives of billions of people for the next century.
Clowns. The lot of them are fucking clowns.

Same on mistakes. Nobody's pefect and people will fail. And honestly, I never truly disliked Obama - I think, and hell it's all smoke and mirrors, I'm probably wrong - that he was a decent, in the definition of the word, man. But his presidency should have been our last, our LAST, warning that the right wing side will only move goal posts and never meet you in the middle, and we are basically at war with ourselves. There's no polite end to this. It's fight the bastards tooth and nail to protect your citizens or roll over into authoritarianism, and nobody (except for those stray folks like AOC who seem to want to TRY to fight with knives out) has gotten the memo. Every strongly worded memo from current Democrats (glares in Schumer) should be etched onto their tombstones when they shuffle off this mortal coil as a warning to future generations to have some fucking guts.

Maybe the worst part is how obviously oblivious so many Dem-voters are. We fight about whether it's even appropriate to primary these fucking idiots as they slowly destroy our democracy with apathy and cowardice. At this point, I'd almost rather see every Democrat voted our in favor of a Republican than watch them continue to do fucking nothing for years and years as the US plunges into autocracy.

The most telling thing is how often the Supreme Court is choosing not to explain their decisions whem siding with Trump. Not only are they expressly doing the opposite of their jobs, they're cowards about it.
Jamelle Bouie on the decision:

Remember how Ruth refused to step down, despite being ancient as fuck, during a Dem presidency so she could be replaced by a non-conservative judge?
My stomach turns whenever I see people idolizing RBG. She was responsible for some truly horrendous Supreme Court decisions, and to me, her legacy hinges on her inability to step away. She was seen as a champion for women's rights, but her narcissism was one of the main reasons Roe fell. She could've retired in 2014, when Democrats held the Senate. She was 81 in 2014 and had already beaten cancer twice. Father Time remains undefeated, whether you admit it or not.

RBG is emblematic of the systemic issues facing Democrats. People like Chuck Schumer should've stepped away a decade ago. The moment is too big for half-measures. It's ageist, but generations that didn't have computers or cell phones growing up should probably step away. Cybersecurity is too important. Not to mention the number of Congressional hearings that deal with platforms like Facebook, which they clearly do not understand.

Three Democrats have died in office since January. Biden, obviously, wanted to run for another presidential term at age 81. Jim Clyburn is 84. Nancy Pelosi is 85. Steny Hoyer is 86. Maxine Waters is 86. These are all prominent Democrats. They shouldn't be putting a finger on the scale when they may not live to see the next election.

I'm sure you guys have heard this story everywhere already, but it's so fucking emblematic of why the United States is a failed country.

Republican Congresswoman Kat Cammack recently told a story where not too long ago she needed to get an abortion in Florida due to an ectopic pregnancy. She struggled to get doctors to give her the treatment she needed because they legitimately feared the consequences of inducing an abortion.
Her response to all this? That what she got wasn't -actually- an abortion (it absolutely was) and that it would have been easier to get the procedure if.... Democrats... hadn't fear-mongered over doctors refusing to treat ectopic pregnancies because of the abortion bans.

Literally.... fucking literally... blaming Democrats/The Left for how hard it was to get an abortion. You know, the party that is famously in favor of killing babies -after- birth in those pesky 'post-birth abortions' Republicans loved to talk about. Somehow all them damn Lefties and Libs just ruined abortions for everyone by.... something something not the Right's fault?

This is modern Republicans. They don't accept responsibility for a goddamn thing they do. Everything, literally fucking everything, is the fault of their Leftist/Democrat boogeyman. Even when Republicans control every part of government, it is somehow still Biden's economy (only when it's bad), Biden's military (only when it fails), and generally Democrats causing every single issue that makes life hard for Americans. It's NEVER Republicans responsible for anything - unless they perceive it as a good thing.

You cannot win against this childish, utterly inane bullshit. It must be expunged.

Sorry to bring Jamelle Bouie into this again (I think he's easily our best political commentator/pundit). You reminded me of this skeet:

Between various Cuomo endorsements, Democratic/media reaction to the war with Iran, AI being forced down our throats, and a whole host of other issues, I feel like our politicians have never been more out of step with the average American. I know that I'm in the 1% of liberals in this country, but it feels utterly hopeless. Even Democrats from the deepest blue states like CA or NY are traitors. Schumer acted mad about Padilla getting handcuffed by the secret police until he had to push a crypto bill through the Senate. Jeffries is no matter. They've all got to go.

I wanted to quote myself here. I said this just three days ago. Since then, Mamdani won a historic landslide victory despite every establishment figure coming out against him. A better world is possible. We can win. We must.

Well... we're united in name only, let's finally make it official. Make that 'not my president' literal.

That's always where this was going (birth certificates meaning nothing). The second, the very goddamn second, that Trump's thugs could kidnap people on the street and deport them without due process, your birth certificate became a meaningless piece of trash. It means absolutely nothing no matter who you are or what state you were born in or what year you were born. And anyone that thinks otherwise is a fucking buffoon.

I help a refugee family locally that had a child born here. We made sure to get her a US Passport. They're about to have another child. Thankfully Colorado won't deny the newborn, but so many other states would. Madness that siblings born a year or two apart in the same hospital would have different citizenship statuses. So babies born to legal refugees are stateless?

Now say goodbye to "free and fair" elections. Since you guys have your elections run at the state level, rather than a single governing body at the federal level, it will be much easier for red states to deny voting because people won't have the proper documentation. So gerrymandering won't matter anymore because they'll be able to just simply deny black and brown people the right to vote because they don't have "proof" of citizenship.
