U.S. Politics

I'm not saying you're wrong but a lot of establishment types have been wanting to bomb Iran for a while. unfortunately some of those establishment types are also Democrats :-/
Oh absolutely. I bring up Repubs/conservatives specifically because part of their sales pitch for the majesty and greatness of a Trump presidency is taking the US out of foreign wars and so on and so forth. Fuck Democrats that want war - but also they weren't the ones saying 'vote Trump for 4 years of peace.'
And, of course, I'm specifically criticizing the formerly no-war conservatives that have turned. There are still some, it's certainly true, that are staying firm in openly stating that war is a bad idea. I wonder how long that will last, though. Maybe just the ones that are up for re-election soon?

In any case, a LOT of people that were super against war, and super against the US dumping billions of dollars in aid to other countries have very quickly reversed positions entirely and decided war is a great idea AND we should definitely not only give Israel billions of dollars directly, but spend billions more fighting their war for them like the good like bitch-state that we are for them.

Wonder if Trump will live long enough to retire and write a tell-all autobiography about how Bibi's dick tastes.

Can’t shake a bad feeling I have. This is all a perfect setup for a false flag event on US soil. Hope I’m wrong.

I don't think they even need one. Trump or one of his ball-lickers will run out to the nearest Fox camera and screech about how the 'LA Riots' were all paid for by the Iranian government so now we have to stop them before they cause a Woke Insurrection. Because the Iranian government is FAMOUSLY very woke.

Honestly, at this point they could just AI-generate a false flag event, post it on Youtube, and 35% of Americans would believe it.

Y'know, it'd be different if generations went by and made the same mistakes as their predecessors, but I'm tired of living in a world where the same fucking guys keep repeating the same fucking playbook and getting away with it. Can't some of these motherfuckers die off so we can watch new fucking guys do it.

It's not even beating a dead horse at this point- it's beating the poor horse's ashes, but we really need to set term limits with some (all) of these positions. I saw someone mention the 18:68 rule the other day, and it sounded reasonable- keep it so they qualify for the position at 18 (though I'd argue it should be 21), and once they hit 68, get their asses out of there, good or bad. That's still 50 years to do whatever the hell they please, which in a lot of cases is still way too much time, but at least we wouldn't have a government that's run almost solely by whatever species the Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth is.

And don't even get me started on the AI aspect of it all. I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to use it to start a war yet, but you know eventually it'll happen.

There's only ever been one time when Donald Jackass Trump told the truth:

"I don't care about you, I just want your vote."

And of course, that was the one time his cult DIDN'T believe him. "Oh, he was just kidding!"

Sure.

Between various Cuomo endorsements, Democratic/media reaction to the war with Iran, AI being forced down our throats, and a whole host of other issues, I feel like our politicians have never been more out of step with the average American. I know that I'm in the 1% of liberals in this country, but it feels utterly hopeless. Even Democrats from the deepest blue states like CA or NY are traitors. Schumer acted mad about Padilla getting handcuffed by the secret police until he had to push a crypto bill through the Senate. Jeffries is no matter. They've all got to go.

The NYC mayoral race is just another reminder that America’s left would be conservative in almost any other modern government. I think I audibly laughed when I saw Clinton endorse Cuomo - of course those two sex predators would get along! I hope the people of NYC see him for what he is.

I'd say his "I could shoot a man on 5th Avenue" comment was sincere, too, and turns out, it's true. He could literally shoot a stranger on TV and his people would cheer.
He wouldn't have to, though. Any one of his lackeys would gladly do it for them, and we know they'd be pardoned and probably offered a seat in his cabinet.

I think I officially qualify as a "real New Yorker" now (as silly as that idea always was to me), and I dunno- I like Mamdani, certainly the best out of the major candidates, but part of me feels like it's all pretty hopeless. There's plenty of beauty to NY, but I can't help but feel more and more like the city is a bit of a lost cause, and has been for a while. Largely due to its leadership, granted, but at this point, what can really be done to help things? It's a glorified amusement park in a lot of ways- it feels like there's such a concentrated effort to cover up the pain and struggle and homelessness with more of that shiny tourism sheen. As someone who's been on both sides of it, the whole "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work your ass off to barely scrape by" thing is just tired and defeating anymore. I applaud so many NYers for being able to find the joy in the little things, and it's lovely seeing so many cultures that aren't beholden to the uber-American ideal of "you must consume and have as many possessions as possible". But the pain and the corruption- not to mention the growing passivity- runs deep, and at this point, I don't really know what can be done to stop it. Mamdani has some great ideas, but I don't know how feasible they really are in the long run. He's a hit with the younger crowd, but I haven't met a whole lot of older folks who like him. And just because of how far gone a lot of things are here, I think even the best, most well-intentioned mayor just wouldn't be able to meet most of their promises.

But I digress. Isn't that politics in general? And few of the city's struggles are unique to just NY, even if they are on a larger scale here. I'd like to hope that we could elect someone like Mamdani and that he'd be given a fair chance to really make some change, but it's exactly the article above that has me worried. NY certainly prioritizes the business aspect over the living aspect.

One thing's for sure- "This town needs an enema!"

When does this start to swing elections? As older generations die off, it's inevitable. Eventually.

I hope it was all worth it so you can say the R-word again. I hope you are proud that all the policies you were championing are happening. I hope you can now stop playing the victim and just enjoy the amazing lack of diversity and diminishment of human rights and collective fear you have supported, because it’s here.
