U.S. Politics

I know I said I was done with this thread, but this is something I really want you all to see. This is democracy in action.
If your encyclopedic knowledge of comics history is any indication of your political knowledge, I hope you stick around. We have some disagreements, but we're basically all on the same team here. We appreciate your perspective.
We're going to get our country back. Hang in there.
This was my takeaway from the Seattle protest. The Seattle Times estimated more than 70K at today's march. That's ~10% of the city.

When Trump won the first time, I thought he represented the dying gasp of a political movement. In November, it felt silly to feel that way. After today, I'm beginning to think that again.

Trump speaks to a segment of this country who don't engage in politics. As I've said in this thread, it's one the Republican Party will struggle to recapture when he's gone.

Trump has done lasting harm, no doubt. The fight to rebuild, and yes, build back better, is going to be a bitch. But liberals are fucking pissed.

I'm not sure what the future of the country is, but I'm confident we're going to have a say in it.

Veterans against Trump? You're goddamn right.

We're going to get our country back. Hang in there.
Geez they are even going after veterans in DC

60 arrested on eve of Army parade as veterans protest militarism

then there was that driver that attacked & drove through protesters
luckily no one was hurt there
that's another thing that the MAGA advocate to drive into protesters if they are on the street

I'm at a social event where I have had to indulge in a good amount of social lubricant so I'm not gonna get into a lot... But to this point, I just spoke with a friend of a friend I've known twenty years and I brought up the protests and he did pretty well, getting where they're coming from, looters are bad, sure sure. I mentioned the DC parade and he saw both sides. Ugh, bullshit, but hey they army has done some good in the last couple centuries and a half. Sure sure..the he said well he's funny because he says it like it is. And after that I dunno, it was like Saving Private Ryan with the ringing in my ears. And this guy is honestly NOT a bigot, not a racist, and only an asshole in a genuinely fun way. He's just slightly innocent, a wee bit dumb. BUT, I feel like people like him are the ones who will jump ship quick when the Epstein shit breaks or anything blatant... Well I dunno maybe not. Because I feel like we have enough already.

Nah. I feel like the kind of person that says things like 'he says it like it is' are the kind of people that don't actually know what he says because they only watch the Fox News clips that try to sane-wash him. Even at their most genuine - these people aren't engaging with reality. They're -already- ignoring all of the massively dangerous, horrible, and illegal things Trump is either credibly accused of, is VISIBLY DOING IN FRONT OF US, or has been CONVICTED of.
People like this aren't dumb and innocent. They're choosing ignorance as a shield so they can support malevolence and misery without guilt or shame.

ignorance as a shield
This is one of the most pervasive and incredibly frustrating clinical realities I deal with. So much “ohhhhh *I* never heard about [insert horrible thing done to LGBTQIA+ folks/immigrants/etc], *I* don’t engage with those guys on ‘the internet’, *I’m* basically a centrist, *I* don’t want to get involved” while one of their immediate family members is directly suffering under these things they’ve “never heard of”.

Yeah, I mean even the politicians do it DAILY. They'll get asked a question about some wildly illegal and malicious thing Trump said he wanted to do in a message he posted online 12 hours ago and twenty different Senators will be like 'I'm not aware of this Tweet.' Like.. yes you are. We can even see in your face ten words into the QUESTION that you knew exactly what they were going to be asking about, you lying scumbag.

I can actually understand regular Trump supporters not necessarily knowing every bit of shit Trump smears on the White House walls. But to hear them talk, they literally don't know anything he's ever said or done. Plausible deniability beyond the bounds of logic or reason. Trump could literally shoot someone in the middle of New York and none of his supporters would have seen a thing. Just as he said.

We had about 60,000 show up for the protest here. What amazes me about that number is San Diego is a Republican stronghold and has been for decades. Well, it used to be anyway. Maybe not so much anymore.

This is Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, just a few miles from where we held the protest.

Those are the graves of men and women who gave their lives for our freedom and democracy. My brother is buried there. I can't stand the thought that their sacrifices may have been for nothing. My grandfathers, my father, my uncle and my brother all served. That's why I attended the protest today.

Can we get out country back? Yes we can. You want to know how I know that? Because it's YOUR country. Yes, you. The person who's reading these words right now. This is your country. The founding Fathers wanted it that way. Because they knew what it was like to be ruled by a King. This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The people. Not wanna be tyrants.

I hear folks say this country has never been in greater danger than it is right now. There have been times of great danger before and we've always made it. This country has survived two World Wars, a great depression, FOUR Presidential assassinations, two pandemics, the White House being burned to the ground during the war of 1812, Pearl Harbor, a Civil War that took more lives than World War 1, World War 2, Korea and Vietnam COMBINED, the Kent State Massacre, a former President who took part in a massive cover up and then was forced to resign in disgrace, the Red Summer, the trail of tears, 9/11 and the beat goes on.

All of that, and we're still here. We're still here because we're stronger than we know. And I'll be damned, if after all that, all the people who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom and democracy died for NOTHING.

Yes, it's your country. And that's why you have to get out and exercise your constitutional right to peacefully protest and make your voice heard. Exercise your constitutional right to vote. It's always been important, but probably never more so than now.

That fucking idiot in the White House now is a bumbling fool and it seems more and more people are glomming on to that fact. I think TSI is right. He's not only not going to run for a third term, he won't make it through this one. He's 79 years old but he sounds and looks like he's 89. He'll be done soon. But he's not the real problem. The problem is his cult. We have to show MAGA that they're not the majority. We have to crush them once and for all.

And we can. And we will.

Thank you and good night.

My new most hated excuse is "Oh, it must be AI." Doesn't matter how much evidence there is to the contrary. I feel like the willful ignorance on what AI looks like is a whole other discussion. I can see how it might be hard to spot for someone who didn't grow up with technology, but most of the time it only requires a modicum of critical thinking (which is obviously too much for some folks).

In the midst of all this, I just want to remind you all that Donald Trump once made history by winning a Razzie award for playing HIMSELF.

I feel like that is always important to bear in mind when dealing with his clownish ass.

So what you're saying is we need to blame the Razzies for giving the idea that he can, and should, be rewarded for being himself? Noted. Count your days, Razzies.......

The numbers today were incredible. The fact that even mainstream media covered these protests is something, and I kinda wonder if they would've even bothered if not for the shootings last night. I think maybe those deaths guilted the weak links into actually covering the protests. I barely saw much about the parade, which I had suspected would dominate the entire day's news cycle.

We'll have to deal with "oh it was AI/CGI," "oh those protesters were paid," all the same bullshit, but the numbers are there if we just can get people to listen and focus. And of course deal with gerrymandering, people killing politicians stand in the way of Trump's policies, and, y'know, WWIII.

This right here. Spot on. It's the cult we have to deal with. he could drop dead tomorrow and we'll have to deal with the the cult, and the men behind the scenes who know how to manipulate that cult to get what they want. And we're not going to be able to deprogram them, so we're going to have to outvote and outshout and outprotest them.

Although if cholesterol finally did its job, it WOULD be nice to not have to listen to his rasping blathering voice ever again, wouldn't it? I've never hated the sound of someone's voice as much as his.
