Watching all of this unfold over decades and also becoming an expert in human behavioral science (for my job) and also cults (also mostly for my job) makes all this extra-maddening, because I wind up in “ideological disputes” that, for me, are like someone arguing with a mechanic over “opinions” over whether a transmission is broken or not. Like the car-owner can have plenty of opinions about it, *maybe* even semi-informed opinions, but arguing “this is what I believe to be true” with someone with actual expertise and training who is saying “yeah, no, the FACT is that this thing is broken”, and having someone clap back with “I don’t share that belief” or even “you’re wrong!!” and that’s just . . . insane.

Yet, here we are.

Yep. I went back to newspapers briefly in my 30s (while working a whole-ass second full-time job) and noped right back out again, but I also made time to dash the dreams of a few young reporters, too. I said "when you leave journalism you'll still feel like a journalist, y'know they way people who leave the military are always defined by it" and one kid goes WHEN I LEAVE? And I said, well some day your car will break down, and you won't be able to afford it, and that's when you take your first PR job...

My hope is when he kicks it the rats eat each other alive. They all want to be the next him and they all HATE each other. I just hope nobody latches onto Barron. That kid feels like the Omen to me. Please let him just quietly live in luxury and keep his family's depredations to himself.

Agreed. I had a lot of the same thoughts. Civil war, COD cosplayers, etc. but yeah this feels like we starting down a path.
 
The fact that these guys are masked, too. Like IFFFF we get out the other side of this, we will never be able to trust each other again. Thousands of people willingly fucked their fellow Americans to death, literally to death, and wore masks and hid behind their cowardice to do it.

I mean the fuckin pink polo dude who threw his sub at an FBI agent this week had more courage than the average gestapo agent, because, perhaps stupidly, flat out admitted it. "Yeah I threw the sub." Now he's up on charges for assaulting a federal agent and man, if the agent filing those charges doesn't feel his balls fall down his pant leg and roll away...
 
I found it really telling when Civil War the movie hit a few years ago and how my personal circles reacted and tried to force sides. Especially to a specific scene in the movie, "What kind of American are you?"

And this week I've been having to have those conversations again, but about a very real world.

They wear the masks because that's the biggest lesson anyone can take from the Axis fascists. That was the biggest mistake as it haunted people forever. They arrested that 98 year old Nazi a while ago for the camp atrocities. They know.

This entire movement is about ducking accountability.
