U.S. Politics

As a fairly anxious person who lives in NY, and whose anxiety has gotten way worse since moving here, I feel like my life expectancy is shortening every day. 😅 I'll be lucky if I make it that long, especially the way the world is going!

As a high stress person, working a high stress job, in a conservative province surrounded by infuriating conservatives, and living in a world that you can watch fall apart in real time second-by-second.... I would not be surprised to read a report that my life expectancy is 'until about last week' and my anxiety has just refused to let me die until I finish a few more things at work.

He's more anxiety than man now...

As a confirmed hypochondriac who goes to the doctor at least 8 times a year I hope that pushes my life expectancy up a bit. I guess there's a better chance I catch something real amongst all of my not real illnesses. My old doctor retired and the first thing my new doctor asked when looking at my visit history was had I ever considered any type of anxiety reducing or mood stabilizing drugs. Now I'm on Zoloft and life is good in a lot of other ways, but I'm still a hypochondriac. I just don't get as stressed out about it.

Our system of Government and the checks and balances it was designed to create.

do you see Trump's presidency as evidence of the strength of those checks and balances?

I don't believe I ever got an answer on this.

my potentially bad-faith assumption of the appeal of America First, MAGA, Donald Trump as a person, etc. involves the idea of impunity, to have a government who act decisively and harshly against The Enemies of The American People or just the singular fantasy of being an individual free to act without consequence. which can be justified by the transgressions of those lawless Enemies (too numerous to name).

a while back on social media I saw a post about a car with two bumper stickers: a 'Thin Blue Line' flag sticker and a 'Don't Tread On Me' sticker with some comment about how the two messages contradict each other. and my thought is: not necessarily. not if you voted for Trump.

and for me this isn't an issue that is confined to Republican leadership. if you are a foreign country that has been subjected to any of America's military occupations, economic sanctions, carbon emissions, State Department-sponsored government interventions, etc. you will know that American impunity has plenty of bipartisan support. this despite of all the discourse during the Obama administration about how he was always going on 'apology tours'. I guess that's my radical centrist 'both sides suck' take on the matter.

I'm not saying any of this to put words in the Sergeant's mouth, it's more my personal feelings on the whole Trump ethos in general
