Tracking toy tariffs

In a sense it's win-win for them. They spew out these bullshit illegal orders and their people lap them up like mana from heaven. Then the courts strike them down because they were never going to stand and their people wail and gnash their teeth about "activist judges". And the sense of righteous anger and grievance expands to their benefit.

Also; the whole point of this is to overwhelm the court system. The idea being that the court cannot possibly respond fast enough and with enough bodies to deal with every single illegal thing he does. And everything he gets away with because the courts cannot possibly deal with it all, and deal with it fast enough, gives his administration more power and more ability to continue their illegal activities.

They've even SAID this is what they're doing. It's not a secret.

Good news, though. Trump appears to be bored of tariffs now that he's learning he's not allowed to just do whatever he wants with them and it makes all his wealthy donors angry. So now he's transitioned over to a power he actually does have and can pretty much use freely: He's just pardoning convicted criminals that definitely did the crimes they were convicted of. You know.. as a little treat.

There is nothing funny about what's going on, but watching him melt down today when informed Wall Street has started calling them TACO Tariffs ("Trump Always Chickens Out") was the sort of thing a comedy team would've written in a parody of reality ten years ago. Just watching him bloviate like a deflated balloon at learning this on camera... I hope we're still a functioning country in a decade cos that will be HILARIOUS if we ever get out of this on the other side.

See, that’s the thing: as utterly fucked as things are, we absolutely MUST keep laughing at his incompetence and buffoonery. These guys are bumbling clowns: bumbling clowns capable of great horror, yes, but bumbling clowns nonetheless. And that orange motherfucker HATES being mocked.
So keep laughing.

Seeing West Point grads laugh AT him and not WITH him the other day was pretty funny too. Like he had no idea why they were laughing.

I mean we're fucked, because the dumbest people on Earth are running things right now, but objectively, "TACO Tariffs" or "Vance killed the Pope" should get a laugh.

Anyway. A kickstarted today asked for ten dollars more for shipping to cover the tariffs or offered a full refund, and I just gave them the ten bucks because they are trying to make something cool and not get fucked by the US government, and I have the ten bucks.

I have a couple preorders that came due during this time, on their way into the country now from China. I'll report back to say what I was charged, and if I was charged. I still don't even know how I'll be charged, but if it's a bill, I think I'll just sit on it until this all goes away. Unless the courier holds the package.

I think the problem is that the front facing group (Trump and his cabinet) are buffoons. However the people behind the scenes (Federalist society) and the "regular" soldiers (ICE, POLICE, private prisons/security) are competent enough to keep damaging the US. Much like with Musk, Trump and the cabinet are really more there to take the heat while everyone behind the scenes keeps pushing the agenda forward to a possible point of no return.

The only real weak spot in their plan is Trump and his cabinet. If he turns on the behind the scenes people they'll be out faster than they can blink and their plan could go down in flames. However for now they seem to know how to handle Trump and keep him happy enough to not interfere with their plan.

Don't forget most of them are paying Trump to get those pardons. Otherwise Trump couldn't care less about them, but if they are willing to bribe him then he is happy to get them out.

(This is nothing agains canprime or whatever his political position is, just my GENERAL observation):

This is verbatim what the other side says about Biden's term. Substitute "buffoon" for "cognitive decline". "He's not running things, it's people behind the scenes".

This is politics in general. One side does something despicable, the other side points fingers and condemns as if it's the most heinous thing they could imagine happening in US politics. Except for when they do it.

"If your guy does it, impeach him, send him to jail, resist! If my guy does it it's fine."

"Your guy's an election denier." "No YOUR guy's an election denier."

"Your guy leads a cult." "No YOUR guy leads a cult."

Whether they're a buffoon or a dementia patient, they're all millionaires who are in the business to keep their position of power as long as they can. And the American people are supposed to think that one choice is so much better than another.

Anyway. Are tariffs done now? As done as they can be for the moment, at least? If so, that is wonderful, wonderful news. Hasbro and McFarlane can bring those prices back down now, right?

You're not wrong. But I think the issue we have to keep in mind is that not all statements carry equal weight. When a literal Neo-Nazi (like.. swastika tattoos, swastika flag on his truck, screaming about how all the X group should be rounded up and killed and Hitler was actually a great guy type of Nazi - unquestionably Neo-Nazi) looks at someone that says 'Fascism is bad' and says 'actually, you're the Nazi' - we aren't supposed to say 'well, I guess no one is a Nazi because everyone is saying it about each other.'

The problem with, to my mind, the political Right (the problem for the Democrats, at least) is that they have weaponized the ability to say 'nuh uh, it's you actually.' In fact, in political commentary circles it's a popular refrain that if the Republicans are accusing someone of something, that's because they're actively doing it right now.

The cult leader or election denial stuff is a great example of how we cannot take both sides seriously enough to say 'well, everyone is saying this so saying it has no value.' That's WHY they accuse people of what they're doing - so it cannot be taken seriously and they get away with it. We've gotta be mindful of that and not be jaded by the idea that everyone is pointing fingers at each other all the time no matter what. Because they're doing that by design.

Anyway. Are tariffs done now? As done as they can be for the moment, at least? If so, that is wonderful, wonderful news. Hasbro and McFarlane can bring those prices back down now, right?
For the moment, it would seem. It'll be interesting to see how the administration responds to this (unless they just don't respond and completely pivot away from tariffs as they seem to be doing at the moment). Obviously Trump hates being told he can't legally do a thing, but at the same time it doesn't seem to be a fight they have any chance of winning without outright saying the courts have no power and they're going to do what they want and see who follows along. This early in the presidency that might not be a great strategy so... probably no more tariffs for now unless he can find a different way to impose them or get a majority of the Senate to agree to his tariff proposals (a death sentence for some of their careers, so unlikely).

In fact, in political commentary circles it's a popular refrain that if the Republicans are accusing someone of something, that's because they're actively doing it right now.

Are we talking political commentary where it is generally agreed on both sides (Republicans and Democrats) that it's Republicans that do this? Or is it more Democrats that say this? Because I hear in Republican commentary that Democrats, in fact, are the ones that do this all the time.

So, again, it's another example of "Your guy does this all the time." "No YOUR guy does this all the time."
