Tracking toy tariffs

Are we talking political commentary where it is generally agreed on both sides (Republicans and Democrats) that it's Republicans that do this? Or is it more Democrats that say this? Because I hear in Republican commentary that Democrats, in fact, are the ones that do this all the time.

So, again, it's another example of "Your guy does this all the time." "No YOUR guy does this all the time."

Except all that creates a false equivalency where there is no truth, only accusations.

I’m so, so tired of the supposition that I need to be able to defend Biden if I’m going to denigrate Trump. For someone who is not a member of a political party and does not care to be EVER, this is frustrating to me.
The parties can go back and forth all they like. Regardless, it is an extant fact that DJT is a bungling fool, yes, and also in *severe* cognitive decline, far worse than any cognitive decline Biden displayed (there, I did it, I made the comparison). It’s wild and insane to hear anyone saying anything positive or affirming about Trump, regardless of how they feel about “the other guy”, whoever the other guy happens to be at the moment.

Yup. This meme sums it up better than anything I posted.

Neither of those are actual facts, unfortunately. There's no test for the former, and if either ever DID have a test for the later, you can bet we, the commoners, would never see the results. In the meantime we get to be left with our own political biases to assume exactly how far down the dementia hole one is vs the other.

So we're back to Pee Wee Herman.
"Your candidate is a bungling fool." "No YOURS is a bungling fool."
"Your candidate is in sever cognitive decline." "No YOUR candidate is in severe cognitive decline."

Does that make Marjorie Taylor-Greene Large Marge? Because that spooky demon face is what I see every time I look at her.

The issue here is there are too many hardline Republicans who refuse to grasp the reality that the party of Reagan (and the truth regarding the virtues of his reign is a debate for another time) is dead. You are no longer voting among party lines. You are voting for a cult of personality.

There are zero redeeming qualities to the current man in Office, nor anyone who is capitulating to his every idiotic whim. You HAVE to understand and recognize that, regardless of your party affiliation.

When David Duke, a grand wizard in the KKK is endorsing your party and its current leader, you HAVE to take a step back here and ask yourself where the party went wrong.

If John McCain, a good, decent man by every measure, the barometer for how good the Republican party can and SHOULD be, is stating that he doesn't want your leader at his funeral, you have to ask yourself why you would follow that man.

At the end of the day, we can't make you see it. If after a decade, you can't see all the damage and chaos he has caused and at the very least, take pause, why are we even having this discussion? To argue just to argue?

Biden is not Trump, and it's not even up for debate. And truth be told, who...fucking...cares? Trump is in Office. Biden is not. Present and future. Focus.

Much like with Musk, Trump and the cabinet are really more there to take the heat while everyone behind the scenes keeps pushing the agenda forward to a possible point of no return.
People are celebrating Musk's departure from the Trump administration. Meanwhile, Russell Vought, the architect of Project 2025, is taking over for him. We're replacing bad with worse. Musk, like Trump, is just a moron fumbling around in the dark. Vought has intent.

This is why, as the old adage goes, actions speak louder than words.

I don't really care to counter the Biden stuff. He's gone. He wasn't even the Democratic nominee for president in 2024. The frustrating thing is that this is another Astroturfed campaign created by Republican operatives and co-opted by the mainstream press. Biden wasn't as sharp in 2024 as he was in 2012. You'll get no argument from me there. That said, I very much doubt that he was incapable of doing the job, at least in 2024. Why? Well, what proof is there that he was incapable? He surrounded himself with smart people and the job got done.

Trump, on the other hand, is clearly not fulfilling the duties of the office. He attends press conferences and signs executive orders that he has no knowledge of. There's ample evidence of this.

I can collect more as I see it if you're truly interested.

As @Damien said, by pointing fingers at the left, the right has upended American politics. It's the left that is extreme. It's the left that is led by an incapable fool. It's the left that [fill in the blank].

The American media is not interested in clarifying this or doing their jobs. At best, they think American politics is a game and Trump is the best/most entertaining player. At worst, they're run and funded by Republican operatives who have no allegiance to the truth.

When the press is in the room with two people, and one says it's raining outside and the other says it isn't, the press shouldn't say, "Accounts differ on whether it's raining or not," they should stick their head out of the fucking window and check.

I often feel like I'm going insane when I have this argument.
  • Donald Trump incited an insurrection five years ago. It was an attempted coup.
  • Donald Trump is kidnapping U.S. citizens and legal residents off the streets despite court orders to stop. These kidnappings are led by masked, plainclothes officers.
  • Donald Trump is running extortion scams on American universities, businesses, and private citizens.
Those are the facts. There is no left versus right anymore. It's the U.S. Constitution versus not. It's the rule of law versus not.

From WSJ

“I think the important thing on tariffs is Christmas is going to happen,” Cocks said during The Wall Street Journal's Future of Everything event in New York. “The North Pole has most favored nation trading status still,” he joked.

It's confirmed, the stockings will be hung this year.
So immature, sigh.

One of the more shocking things to me in (at least) the last decade is the abandonment of God and family values by the right. Their entire moral justification, whether genuine or not, was turned into a soundbite. It's hard to engage and create common ground with family members when their supposed core values are so flexible (meanwhile, everyone else is going to hell because they put their right shoe on before their left, or whatever nonsense).

That is a fair point, especially when looking at the rank-and-file.
That said: I can count the right-leaning politicians in my lifetime on one hand who I would esteem to be even remotely “godly” in a non-hypocritical way.

Like . . . John McCain, maybe? A couple others? Not counting guys like Mike Pence who are certainly serious about their religious stuff, but only because they are deeply unwell and deluded.

The tariff news is definitely good news. It might not mean anything though if the administration is able to get them frozen in place until an appeal is eventually heard. It could conceivably go all the way to the Supreme Court which is nearing the end of its current session.

And not to be a Debbie Downer, but I can totally see the conservatives on the Supreme Court saying it's the role of Congress to override Trump's vetoes and not the duty of the court. At least for not, a lot of tariff stuff is being rolled back. I wonder if anyone charged a tariff fee for a preorder will see a refund? Mondo, Super7, and probably other places have all tacked on such charges recently for stuff we won't see until next year.
