Tracking toy tariffs

Heh, yeah, 100 was about when I started enthusiastically reading it as well. I’d been a Joe fan for years at that point but never realized the comic was actually good (I had no mentoring on this subject and only read superhero comics at that point) but the “revived” Cobra Commander design, with the hood and the dress uniform and the jackboots and the epaulets and braids totally hooked me in: it was a version of CC I had never seen before at the time (I now know it was a badassified version of his original comic outfit, which makes it even cooler) and there wasn’t even an action figure of it (yet). That was so iconic to me, along with the comic version of the SAW-Viper and also the way the comics depicted Snake-Eyes versions 3 and 4: waaay cooler than the toys they were based on.
I was around 10 at the time and the difference in tone between the cartoon and the comic both confused me and fascinated me at the same time. Hama was firing on all cylinders and the MD Bright art on those early 100s issues was bangin'! I didn't get Snake Eyes v1 or v2 until I was in my early 20s, so v3 and v4 were my go-tos. I remember the comic really muted the blues and reds of the v4 look which looked so much cooler, I wished the figure looked like that.

Definitely better late than never.
Trust: I backtracked on all that as soon as I could: those comics are some of my favorites of all time now. I even went in for the super-fancy kickstarter. Damn, man, the whole Snake-Eyes/Dr Venom/Kwinn/Scarface deal was absolutely amazing stuff.

Definitely better late than never. I think I read the comics starting around the one when Destro and Firefly ambush Snake Eyes at his cabin and Airborne and Spirit come to help him. Probably why I see all of them as essential. But even still, reading all those issues straight through to the ninja force stuff, where I fell off), his look on issue 100 is still the iconic one. If you say Cobra Commander to me, I think of that cover.
Another stellar run, great story, great art. Just a few issues earlier was the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow origin issues which is one of the coolest origins in comics!

Canceling hooded CC was definitely the right call. Don't want to send the wrong mes.......

Ummm......

There are so many theories out there from Lorenzo DiBonaventura being unhappy with the look and threatening Hasbro if they ever made it he wouldn't bury GI Joe from ever being a movie again, to there is no official ban but somehow it got stuck in someone's head there was and no one has questioned it since.

Honestly the Snow Trooper is really the only one who could be mistaken at a glance for a KKK member. All those other pics are pretty obviously not upon first glance. I guess the hood is too close for comfort on CC, but as has been said Hasbro has let the ML team do actual Nazis (Red Skull & Baron Zemo). Zemo has a "hood" as well. So is it just the fact Hasbro owns the Joe IP that makes them less likely to do hooded CC? Do they somehow pretend that Marvel can take the blame if someone goes "Karen" on them for Red Skull or Zemo?

Does the classified one match it closer?

For real! And all those guys need classified figures.

I know, when I got the back issues, that was that, I was hooked hard. Plenty of other great characters and stories but the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow stuff was always my favorite.

V1 was the first toy I picked for myself off a rack at Toys R Us back in 1983, buuuuut I didn’t start collecting Joes in earnest until much later (mom didn’t want me to have “war toys” so I only had SE and then Zartan and the Vamp v2 with Clutch for years) so v3 and v4 were my go-tos as well, although I did snag a v2 at a gift shop in France on vacation when I was, like, 11 or so? Got a Viper that way too. I always hated that v2 looked so dumpy in figure form, v3 and v4 were just plain better sculpts. In fact, if Classified was just beginning and was only going to be one wave and I could only have one Snake-Eyes design, I’d probably go v3.
But man, when they drew v4 all muted in the comics and still had him wield the two trench knives, yeah, that was magic.

Also, tariffs suck and if Snake-Eyes were real he’d be perp-walking Tangerine Twitler out of the White House.

To show what I pay attention to, Ireland is getting tariffed as well... So Americans are less likely to buy those products now, which I'm guessing will be a major blow to these companies, and I imagine that's true for many of these countries. Seriously asking, is the point to crash economies across the world?
I found this guy back in January. My mom is Irish, with that Irish sense of humour, so I figured he would give her a laugh. Sure enough he did and we enjoy watching his shorts.

Anyway he has a very Irish take on the tariffs.........heads up warning....... some swearing so if someone is sensitive to that don't watch:

Oh, Garron Noone is fantastic. If you like his comedy, take a moment and check out his cover of The Highwayman he posted right after Kris Kristofferson passed away. Dude's a multi-level talent. (I lived in Galway for years and not a day goes by I don't think about how I should've stayed.)

With all those white-hooded characters Hasbro has produced, particularly the snowtrooper - y'know, George is not a perfect writer, but he was absolutely one supremely mainstream writer who pointed at his villains and was like: "These guys? Space Nazis. 100%. No question. Space. Nazis."

That's a pretty wild policy, just eating the cost like that. Certainly wouldn't expect it from anyone I'd already ordered from. And considering how many things I have on pre-order with them, I hope they don't end up regretting it!

There's never been a better time to take up a nice vintage toy line. Personally, I'm eyeing up Battle Beasts and M.A.S.K.

I've wanted to re-collect Battle Beasts for YEARS. But every couple of years I get the itch, check e-Bay prices, and give up.
