Toys, Tunes and Beer

Happy Friday everyone. It’s time for Toys, Tunes and Beer. Originally I only bought the main four of the @hasbro Marvel Legends Fantastic Four figures (plus non flame on Johnny), but after seeing the movie, I knew Silver Surfer would be added. A simple figure yes, but pretty nice as it is. I do wish she had some more torso crunch. I’ve read that people have had issues getting her on the board too. This was my first try and has stayed pretty well (so far). I think the only other F4 character I’d really want (besides a larger Galactus) would be Mole Man. Stingray (@paulwhausergram ) needs some plastic love. @kettleheadbrewing is a slept on brewery. Overshadowed by the other big NE names. The Agent is one of their flagship beers, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t something special. 7% makes it easier to drink than you’d think. Light, but flavorful. A little bitter at the end. Makes for a nice beer to keep in your fridge year round. The Decline by @nofx may be my favorite thing they’ve ever done, and they’ve done a lot. I remember hearing they were putting out a 17 minute song in 1999 and thought it was just a gimmick. Boy was I wrong. Even 25+ years later the song hits too close to home at every turn. “We are the queer, we are the whore. Ammunition in the class war.” See? I’ve listened to this song so many times now it’s almost obscene. I wish I could have seen NOFX play it live in Montreal when I saw them last year on their final tour. This version is special as it was recorded live at Red Rock Amphitheater with Baz and His Orchestra. It’s a fitting overhaul for the song.

Overall ratings. Figure 4:5. Beer 3.75:5. Album 5:5.

Awesome reviews and I always appreciate the personal touches you add with the music, but maybe not as much as your glass placement on that last picture, heh heh.

Oh look. It’s Monday. I hope this installment of Toys, Tunes and Beer helps make it better. Yea this is the 2024 SDCC Exclusive Marvel Legends Death’s Head. Yea I’m just opening him. So what. Yes the figure is mostly reuse, but it’s smart reuse. A little paint and new accessories make it work. The weapons are nice and fit on the shield ok. I wish he had two grip hands though. I have no connection to the character, but the packaging is what drew me in. I collected the heck out of those Marvel cards. Also, he’s kind of a twofer, originating in the Transformers universe. Last Saturday I took a trip to the Saratoga branch of Treehouse Brewing to stock up. The beer is You Are Here, and double IPA (surprise). It’s soft, but not light. Some citrus with a bit of tropical fruit in there (yeah I’m lame like that). I hope you aren’t expecting a big variety of beer in the upcoming installments because you’ll be disappointed. Tonight’s album is NOFX again. I blame Kellen, he picked it. “The War on Errorism” came out during the height of NOFXs anti-Bush era (if only we knew). The opening song Separation of Church and Skate is such a banger that draws you in to the rest of the album. There are so many NOFX classics on this one album. Franco Un-american, She’s nubs, American Errorist, 13 Stitches, they are all songs they still played live up until last year (RIP). I will still spin this album and be blown away by how cohesive of a band they became.

Overall ratings. Figure 3.5:5. Beer 3.75:5. Album 5:5 (I swear I’m not trying to be subjective).

I missed posting a couple of days here because of the holiday. I'm sure you're all heartbroken.

I’m a day late. Sorry. Welcome to Toys, Tunes and Beer, Saturday edition. I picked up Xizor on a whim Friday. I’m not mad about it as @starwars Shadows of the Empire is what drew me back in to collecting. What a media frenzy that was for the era. I played the @nintendoamerica Nintendo 64 game all the time (I don’t think I beat it), I read the novel and bought so many of the POTF2 figures. Xizor is a very well detailed figure, if not simple. The green skin really contrasts with the purple of his outfit nicely. It all works. I can’t wait for Dash Rendar to ship. I’m all in on SOTE Black Series figures. @treehousebrewco beers are still in full rotation here. This is King Julius, another double IPA. I can remember when KJ was one of the hottest trade bait beers out there. I think I ended up trading something to get a couple of cans. Those day were wild. Haha. The beer is nice, with a lot of OJ going on. I try to pick it up when I make a run just because it makes me laugh at how readily available it is these days. The @codefendants_legal_fund album #thisiscrimewave …I don’t know what to say other than perfection. This is such a fantastic album, start to finish. A mix of punk, hip hop, and some electronic beats. @bukowskis_ghost Sam King from Get Dead and ceschiramos take on the lead vocals and man do the kill it. I was lucky to see them in Montreal last year during @nofx farewell tour, and they are one of the best live bands I’ve seen in a while. This album #thisiscrimewave is easily one of the best albums in the last five years, period. I’m all in for whatever they do next.

Overall ratings. Figure 4.25:5. Beer 4.25:5. Album 4.75:5.

Yes I know this is late, but yesterday was a holiday. I’m sure you all had better things to do. Anyways, here’s Toys, Tunes and Beer (with bonus pictures!). While doing some rearranging in the basement, I found the place I stashed the @hasbro @gijoe Classified Series Raptor. A silly figure from the class of 87, but done right in Classified. The characters backstory is crazy. An accountant turned bird breeder who got caught poaching on Cobra land…and got a job. All that an aside, this figure is pretty nice. Fun details (a lot of bird parts used in his costume), and a great update to his original bird….cape. His wings are almost reminiscent of the MCUs Vultures, and Falcons newest set. Once I reset my Joe shelf, this goofball will have a place high in the sky. Tonight’s libation is @treehousebrewco Nelson Many Ways. New Zealand hops have been catching my eye for a while. I know some people don’t care for them at all, but they’re up there with citra, and mosaic for me. This one is kinda grassy, maybe grapefruit-ish bitter citrus. That’s all I have to say about it. Go drink some. Tonight’s album is a classic. @fugazi first full album Repeater, still hits the same way it did the first time I put it in my CD player, that was connected to a cassette adapter in my car. Yeah, I’m THAT old. Repeater, and Merchandise are my favorites on the album, but this is another no skip album for me. As I was messing around with Raptor, Styrofoam came on and the lyric “We are all bigots, So full with hatred, We release our poisons” hit pretty hard for these days. On the list of bands I wish I could have seen live, Fugazi is on the top five, maybe even top three.

Overall ratings. Figure 3.75:5. Beer 4:5. Album 5:5.

Man, this guy doesn't miss. Fugazi is a little before my time, but my favorite bands always listed them as an influence. As a teen, I went back and listened to their discography. They're not as melodic as the bands I listen to, but they rock.

I haven't heard of Codefendants. Your tunes have been so good that I'll give them a listen.
