Toys, Tunes and Beer

I have barely read any issues with Aphra but I really liked what I did see. She's yet another character I think would translate to a Disney Plus series well (the other is the SCAR Squad, which I'll never stop hyping. Never!). I did get her figure because I think of the Disney era, the comic characters are consistently the most interesting to me. I think I've mentioned to you before, but she has a passing resemblance to one of my best friends, so I reflexively like her just on sight.
 
I went to three Half Price Books stores and a shop that sells vintage everything today. I picked up an upgrade for my vintage Bedpin Luke and some iconic tunes :). Star Wars is dated 1993 so I'm gambling that the banned "Yub-Nub" song is on this.

Beer? Normally there would be a Captain Diet here but the colonoscopy is on Tuesday. My directions said I have to stop alcohol two days before which would be Sunday (tomorrow) but I'm being extra good.

Even before that he just acts like he's God's give to music and that everyone else of note from those eras of relevance ripped him off, or he inspired them and didn't get credit, yadda yadda.

Love the band. Hate the fans. Hate the guy when he's not giving me something to roll the window down and be wistful over.

One of my favourite bands and albums of all time. Love Brody's voice like a gravel truck with a broken axle in the early albums, and then how it smooths out from Coral Fang onwards.

Coral Fang is my favourite Distillers album. Formative years. Her voice sounds so carnal and red-wet-body heat on that album and Spinnerette.

I went all in on Spinnerette when she did that, with signed copies of her main album and all the LPs. Met her when she came to Toronto for her solo album and played the basement at HMV on Yonge Street and got to gush. Also met two of my best Canadian friends while waiting in line. That night, saw her at the Horseshoe and she and Tony signed a show poster for me behind the venue.

When she was touring with Queens, that was the first time I ever did the tour follow for three stops.

She played Blues Fest in Ottawa, and it was thunderstorm delayed. I camped that front rail in the downpour until they made us move due to lightning. Then threw elbows to get it back when the festival got the all clear. During that set, there was a super fan high schooler next to me who was going wild and really wanted the set list at the close. I lifted her on stage to swipe it. Was able to get a pick off the mic stand as consolation.

As my girlfriend and I walked away to grab food, and I'm talking way away (away from here, I knooow) across the grounds, someone called after me and tapped my shoulder. It was Brody's guitar tech, and he had a Brody-noted setlist for me. It's got her handwritten notes for tunings and arrows dragging the order of songs around. Told me he saw me help the girl and the band and techs thought that was cool and not often seen, so... reward.

Good luck, with the colonoscopy! I had mine last month and it was my first dance with it. The procedure itself is a piece of cake, but the prep sucks. We’re all getting old on the action figure forum!
 
Another night, another installment of Toys, Tunes and Beer. I’ve had this GI Joe Classified Vypra for quite a while now. I traded my buddy Sambuca (@josephkabasan ) for it and I just never got to opening it. It’s too bad I waited too. It’s a very nice figure. Great articulation, and just the right amount of accessories. One of the few Python Patrol figures I actually like. The beer is one of the many myths from Vermont. @alch3mistb33r Focal Banger. The little brother of Heady Topper. I poured half in the glass as they say to drink it from the can (right on the can!). I remember first getting this beer in a pop up truck sale in Stowe. I kept counting the people in front of me to make sure I’d get a full allotment. Haha. The album…well I’m surprised it took me this long to get to them. The people the know me (mostly just @Ru1977 ) know how much of a rabid fan I am of @dropkickmurphys . I’ve loved this band for damn near 30 years, and have seen them live as many times, if not more (including the last ten-ish years in Boston on St Patrick’s Day. A band that has stayed true to their roots over their entire career, never backing down from anything or anyone. I love all their albums, but Do or Die holds a special place in my heart and always will.

Overall ratings. Figure 3.75:5. Beer 4:5. Album 100:5 (I may be biased)

I prefer Focal Banger to Heady Topper. It just seems to have a little more bite to it.
 
I am one of those who got into Dropkick Murphys after The Departed. I immediately got Warrior's Code and played the full album for months. I've never seen them live even though I was running through the airport with two car seats once when they were doing a performance there damnit.

I really like Vypra as well. I do have the blue ninja but prefer Vypra way more.

I call Focal the little brother only because it was canned after Heady. They did have Focal at the old brewpub, before the flood, but it was never canned. The Alchemist's history is truly a great one going from a cult following, to almost being out of business, to becoming one of the top brewery locations in Vermont.

I love what DKM has become, but Do or Die is what truly did it for me. I won't get in to my history with the band, but Barroom Hero was the first song I heard on a $5 CD compilation, and I scoured the internet (as best you could in 1997) for anything that had more songs from them.

They had a song in The Fighter as well. Now that I think about it, anytime their music (or Ken!) shows up in a movie, Mark Wahlberg is in it.
