Third Party Figures

I hadn't QUITE forgotten that I'd ordered this thing ages and ages ago, but I just got an email from 5K that the studio canceled it and it's not getting released anymore:

Well, the Miniwork Aragorn has been released.

The likeness is pretty great, at least in terms of the sculpt:

But the paint is pretty basic looking, specially when compared to the original prototype. The head is kinda big for the body, and the body overall looks pretty stumpy. The clothes look decently well done, but the accessories kinda suck, specially the sword. They did the DST thing of not finding a way to attach the scabbard to the belt!

However, with everything on, he does look pretty good. I do not know if I'll get him, but in terms of likeness, it's probably the single best in 1/12. I'm not sure how much better it is overall than the SHF, but at least the head is infinitely better. Now we wait for the Hellcat and the official ones coming from I can't remember who.

I was wondering what happened to that figure! Since Rage Toys showed off not-Raph who I thought looked pretty good and I got not-Mikey but past on the other two, I thought maybe I’d get this guy to be my not-Leo to have fun with scale but couldn’t find him on 5k when I searched!

I wonder if NECA’s Nude Ronin (Michel-Dangle-Low) killed interest in this figure since they do kinda occupy the same niche for BIG lumpy Turtle…

Yeah, I don't like that.
The skin has a corpsey look to it. The cut of the overcoat piece is ridiculous and makes him look like he's got beer-gut sticking out of his too-small coat. And the massively thick crossguard on his sword makes it look like he's carrying around a 1940s movie prop.

Ok. I have some things to say about this guy.

This is Fancy Realm's second in their Chinese mythology series. This is NeZha. He's a really cool character, and a good looking figure. That being said, I had several problems with mine.

The first bump I ran into is one of the bases he came with. He actually came with 2 since I got the Deluxe version, and I did wind up using the Deluxe stand. That being said, he came with a lotus stand that would have been neat to display him with. The problem is that it came in 3 pieces, and won't stay together! I did wind up getting it to look decent, but if you try picking that thing up, it's just going to fall apart.

The second thing is that one of his flaming wheels for his feet came backwards on mine. I'm gonna contact 5Ktoys and see if anything can be done, but if not, I still think he looks decent the way I have him.

The third thing is that, you have to get his accessories in just the right spot for his hands, and since I got the 6 armed version, this was a little annoying. Getting all 6 hands to hold stuff was a little bit of a pain since I would accidentally knock something out fixing something else. Once I got them all in though, it looks great.

The next bit was my biggest problem, and is something they really should have worked out before releasing. His extra arms plug into a slot on his back. The problem is that they just kept falling out. Just trying to get his arms in, and all of his accessories in his hands was a nightmare. I "fixed" this by just using Blu Tack on the peg foe his extra arms. After that, it was so much easier.

Now, with all of this complaining, I still really like this figure. Their first Figure in this line, Leizhenzi, is amazing, and I had zero complaints for him. So it's a bit of a bummer to see there be so many problems for this guy. I'm still glad I have him. He looks great all done up, and having him in my little Chinese mythology section feels and looks great.

He's a good figure, you just sadly have to put in a little work to make him work. That's a dealbreaker for some, but not me. And, I'll say it one more time, I absolutely love the way he looks after finishing him.
