Super 7 TMNT figures

Most of the designs I like are unnamed mutant/creature characters, or implausibly large/complex Baxter/Shredder iterations. So I'm not expecting to put THAT much money into this line if it goes on (if you ignore how much they already cost and how much more they will down the line). I didn't care for Fast Forward at all, but if they made nice enough Dark Turtles I'd probably consider those.

Based on my list you could probably tell that I’m a pretty rabid fanboy of this show. But understand that as far as TMNT was concerned, this was the show that got me out of my funk when it came to this property after a 10 year sabbatical. I never watched a lot of the original tv series when it was on during its original air date. I stuck around for the first 3 seasons or so, occasionally delving into the Burger King Kids club vhs tapes, (mostly because my local Blockbuster video managed to get their hands on a few of those) and I only had the first one or two waves of the original toys as well.

Most of my engagement when it came to the TMNT in the 90’s came from the video games, the aforementioned figures and the live action movies. And I clung onto it until around 93 but then started to mostly focus on super heroes thanks to the rise of tv shows on fox kids.

But when the TMNT came back in 2003 I suddenly had a reawakening I hadn’t experienced before when it came to this property. I was all in. I watched the show through completion multiple times over. During its original syndication, when it came out on dvd, I saw it during the early days of YouTube..I even had a torrent of it at one point. I also played all of the video games on the GameCube and Ps2 that came out around that period, I collected the toys, got into the adult collectibles when Neca came onto the scene I’ve read the mirage and IDW comics, I’ve seen multiple movies, I went back and played the old games from the 90’s…and inevitably over these last 20+ years that train just kept rolling along until the present day. I haven’t gotten off this ride since I first came across that show while I was channel scrolling in my college dorm room and that show flashed across my screen.

So yeah if Super7 is committed, then I’m right there with them full stop. Kyle has stated it himself that these are “His turtles” and he’s not that much younger than I am. He would have been a freshman in high school when this series aired. I am hoping we are of two minds and he reads this.

I don't really have a definitive version. I watched the movie and toon as a kid, but nowhere near every episode. I've fairly recently watched through '03, '12, and Rise and in my opinion '12 came out on top. And the new show/movie were good too. But I think what I like is just seeing different interpretations of familiar characters, or wild new creatures, or whatever. Certainly I have preferences for individual character looks over other versions, but I could never settle on just one look for this property, there are a lot of pretty good ones. To be honest, I kind of like the Fury Toys and JoyToy designs more than any of the existing shows, overall...

I don't have a definitive TMNT either. Probably because I was so deeply engaged with three different versions of the Turtles all at once in my formative years. It's honestly a pretty solid toss-up between the first two movies, the original cartoon, and my imagined story based on the vintage toys. Those three things had equal sway in my love of TMNT.

But there's a STEEP decline after those things. I like the 2000 show. I like the 2012 show. I like the Rise era. They're fun. But nothing even touches those original three things for me.

Strangely, I have almost no attachment at all to the original comic, even though I read it religiously right around the time the movie came out and I discovered the graphic novel (presumably a reprint that came out to capitalize on the movie, but I didn't know that as a kid).

Well, EE had all four bros back in stock today, so I bit. Used the EARTH10 code for 10% off.

So I got 3 of the 4 brothers from my first EE order this week (Raph is already on his way from the second order).

They are pretty sturdy compared to other Ultimates I have. The double elbows DO work, you just need to be mindful of the strap on the elbow pads, as that can get in the way and get pinched.

I am so happy to add more screen accurate versions of these turtles to my growing turtle mutliverse shelf display.

I got mine as well and while I’m thrilled to have these I do have some minor gripes. I wish Raphael’s Sai were more appropriately to how they appeared in the tv show because these seem a tad small, I wish the turtles themselves were closer in height to the Movie figures considering that the 03 we’re amongst the tallest versions of the team in any media where as these figures are about the same size as the Mirage Lawson turtles, and lastly I wish the bandana tails on their masks were about 30% longer. The length of the bandanas were extremely long in the tv show. Stretching nearly half way down the length of their shells to wear their belts hang at their waist line. These are a far cry from that. I’m going to try and mod these using some of the bandanas from the AoA colossus BAF figure. I bought some spare heads. So as soon as those ship I’m going to paint those up and apply them to some of the heads I have here

Are Leo's swords just .. .flat, primer grey, or is that just my eyes?

Yeah they are just translucent plastic but pretty sturdy. Word to the wise, they fit best in the scabbards with the bladed edge pointed in the downwards position since they are not curved katana, they are technically Ninjato and the scabbards are sculpted to accommodate them this way.

That is so fucking lame. Can't even paint the sword blades like they did for previous Leos. Even that is just asking too much of this scumfuck embarrassment of a company.

Man, seeing Damien post truthful yet hateful comments at Super7 always makes me laugh. It's like when Red is in prison and thinks about Andy Dufresne driving free with the top down and the wind blowing through his hair near the end of Shawshank Redemption.

The Turtles do look good themselves though. Some really nice pics some of you have shared. The Turtles look bright, colorful, and fun as far as how they look. How are they quality wise to those of you who have them?

Mine are showing up tomorrow, but if they're anything like the last few dozen figures I've gotten, they'll probably sit in a pile unopened for longer than I can currently predict.

Saw some comparison pics on social… they’re shorter than the original Turtles? I fully thought they’d be bigger.

They’re the same height as the original ultimates Turtles but I’m just saying if these 2k3 turtles are supposed to be based specifically on the animated series itself then Super7 should have taken more care to get some of the details in their likenesses down more accurately and the height of the turtles is a key component. In the show they were taller than the original turtles. For instance, Casey Jones stood around 6 ft 4” and the turtles were around shoulder high next to Casey. Now in later seasons starting around Fast Forward, the art department and production was outsourced to completely to Dong Woo, the animation team responsible for animating the show while 4Kids entertainment was responsible for the in house production design for seasons 1-3. As such, new character models for the show were created and the Turtles themselves got a makeover. One such design aesthetic was the increased height which scaled them closer to an adult human male, along with giving the turtles varying differences in height. roughly 5ft 8” for Michelangelo and 6ft 1 for Raphael. And you can see the biggest differences in scale when they crossover with the 87 turtles in Turtles Forever. From this moment in time, not only can we see a distinction between the two universes, but it’s almost like the turtles from the 2003 universe has grown up and matured with its audience while the 87 has been stuck in cartoon limbo for an entire generation. It was a very interesting visual queue that I appreciated while watching this film that has stuck with me all this time.

I don't see an issue with scale, yet. This line is it's own thing and as long as they scale with the other characters in the line then it should be fine. The other turtles line isn't based on the cartoon and the scale is essentially "Whatever Super7 wants it to be." Now, the cheap looking swords? That does bother me. I'm guessing they would defend it as "Well they're just gray in the show most of the time," and that's probably true, but it's also why I think lines like this one should eschew more towards the most lavish animation created for the show and not just whatever was most common.
