Star Wars Movie and Streaming Series Discussion

Grievous is one of my favorite side characters, and I'd watch the hell out of a spin-off. If done right, I think it could be as beautifully tragic as Mr. Freeze's re-imagining for Batman: The Animated Series.

And I think there's not a single Star Wars fan out there who wouldn't want a Palpatine prequel. A serious, twisty-turny show with political intrigue about his rise to power and all the people he threw under the bus (speeder?) to get there would be delicious.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but I'd still love something on Enfys Nest too- if not a full spin-off, then at least a focus on her in someone else's show, or a segment on one of the "Tales Of" seasons. Not only do I just love her design, but I do feel like there's a lot of interesting material to mine there- both with her taking on the mantle and her contribution to the early days of the Rebellion. Again, she had dealings with Saw and a young Jyn- anyone who associates with Saw is either desperate or a bit shady themselves, it seems, so seeing where she fit into all that and how good/bad she was could be very interesting.

I couldn't be more with you on Enfys.

I would be down with a Vader show but feel like it's time for an Empire series, and please swipe from the comics as much as possible. I'd love an on screen adaptation of the attempted coup (basically the star wars version of Valkyrie). But scar Squad is obviously something I'll never stop clamoring for, Aphra, Vader cameos etc, Empire. Only on Disney Plus.

A Palpatine prequel series would be great, could even cast the guy who was the imperial who attempted to assault Bix since he could pass for a young McDiarmid.

But as far as redemption goes, as someone who barely watched Clone Wars, I could see Grievous doing well in a show portraying his life pre-accident.

I think it would be interesting to see them re-write Dash Rendar's story to remove a lot of his direct involvement with the twins and make it more about him as a character navigating the post-ANH galaxy, running in with bounty hunters - maybe even himself trying to find Han Solo at first and then falling into a world of anti-Imperial sentiment or something, ala Andor. Basically - Andor but with a lot more swashbuckling action type stuff.
Andor meets Mandalorian?

Telling that of those 10 characters, not one is a woman.

At least you all like Enfys Nest!

I'd still like to see more about Q'ira - Emilia has not had the best luck with projects. But aside from the obvious characters we just left behind, there just aren't that many Star Wars females in live-action. I really liked Cara Dune. I like Katee Sackhoff more than I like Bo-Katan which helps and doesn't. And I think that's it?

FORGOT Pelli Motto, just like Hasbro has forgotten her. She's like Nick Fury at this point - in every project. Why have we not gotten a figure of her?

Wedge could be a way to fill in between ANH and RotJ without it seeming like "Where's Luke, Leia and Han?" all the time. That might be interesting as it could pick up pre ANH and continue post RotJ. I mean, the Rogue Squadron stuff was some of the best comics and novels in the original EU. Have it be starship based as part of the Rebel fleet, trying to inflict damage, maybe help out various planets from Imperial rule, and avoid the full wrath of the Empire at the same time. We haven't really had a Star Wars show in the Trek/BSG vein of being about a crew and a fleet, naval and air force battles...

I don't think I want a Vader series focused on the Jedi purge. We got enough of him during Obi-Wan and the brief scenes in Rogue One to understand him during this period. The only way I could go for a Vader series would be if he was trying to find an apprentice before he knew of Luke to overthrow Palpy, but Palpy beat him down more, making his desire to turn Luke and finally growing a spine against Palpy at the end more impactful.

Don't at this moment care about the rest. Maybe Boba if they decided to go into the Hutts and crime side of things.

If we have to more Boba, I would prefer anything pre ROTJ. When they called if Book Of, I really expected more of his life besides post ROTJ and five second of him watching Jango take off.

Wow... I don't want a single one of those shows. In fact, I think most of them are distinctly terrible ideas.

Even with Vader, I think they've overplayed their hand a bit. I like the Vader solo comics, but I also don't necessarily believe some of that stuff translates well into the established 'live-action' franchise where Vader isn't necessarily doing, or even capable of doing, the batshit insane things that force-users can sometimes do in comics. In fact, I'd argue one of the biggest flaws of modern Star Wars is the massive disparity in power levels just between different pieces of media. A Vader series would only exacerbate that problem.

I think there's probably ways to do a Vader series , but I don't think fans would want to see most of them anyway. What fans think they want is just an entire 6-12 hours of Vader being a terrifying badass. In reality, fans would get bored by that real fast and it would not be particularly engaging; like a nonstop action movie where you literally just get tired of explosions and gunfire.

The Clone Wars has been adequately explored and fanboys can totally fuck off with more of that.

Wedge doesn't need to be a POV character. Not everyone needs to be a POV character. In fact, I'd argue Wedge works better if he's just a regular guy that's been through it. That's partly why we still remember his name at all; he was just a soldier caught up in it all and that hits in a certain way. Don't make him another Cassian-level 'chosen hero.' Jesus.

Fuck off with anything Kylo. There isn't any meat on that bone.
Ditto for Boba Fett. Let it go.

Jango Fett is such a bullshit character and I'd prefer if we could go back to pretending he doesn't even exist. Nothing but a pre-knock-off of Boba that devalues Boba entirely.

No to Mace Windu. He's just a Jedi Master that helped completely fuck Anakin up in the head and make him evil for no good reason. Making a series out of Mace automatically imports all the stupidity of the prequels. Let it die.

Tarkin? Why? Does anyone really need a series or a movie told from the perspective of the mass murderer? This is just an article grasping at names they remember. Dumb.

Grievous and Sidious have the most potential, and also my -biggest- 'fuck off' response. Some things need to be unknown. Some things need to not be explored. Both characters are infinitely more interesting if we DON'T know the full truth of their backstory, what they got up to, and very importantly - what's going on in their heads. All of that stuff would, on some level, need to be explored and would potentially ruin the mystique of their characters.

Also just.. goddamn... make new characters and new stories. I say that, of course, as I go on to praise Andor.

I just finished Andor, finally. The wife and I were able to get in two eps yesterday and two today to finally finish. Goddamn. I have plenty of nits to pick and things I don't like. But I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said I think this is one of the best things Disney has done in over a decade. So well crafted. Great tension. Fairly believable characters (surprisingly grounded considering this is Star Wars). Dovetailing in to Rogue One and ANH like it does really couldn't have been done better. In fact, I'm having a hard time planning a way to recount the things that really hit me even just in those last two episodes.
I love the overall exploration of what a rebellion is, what it needs to be, and how it functions and even grows beyond and around its foundations; to the point where the current rebellion doesn't even trust the original rebellion. Really, I think this show manages to even plant the seeds of why the Rebellion was so ineffective at governance post-RotJ. When you are only tied together by being against something, nothing holds you together when you win. We see the beginnings of that between the rebel senators, Yavin command, Luthen, and Saw.

Anyway... amazing show. Did not expect to be saying that after quitting the show for almost 4 months after the first 2 episodes of season 1.

The right writer could do a great job with any of those characters, but my gawd I want to see them explore another era. Of course we got one of those and it turned out to be so divisive that Disney will probably never take a chance on a live action production that doesn't take place before the birth of Anakin or after the death of the frachi--I mean, Kylo.

I'd love to get a smuggler version of the Mandalorian if we have to stick within the timeframe parameters of the films. Either an outer rim grimy crime show, or alternately a swashbuckling space pirate show. New characters who are AWARE of the war but maybe don't give a shit. Stormtroopers are scary, Imperial officers scarier, poverty scariest. Lots of weird aliens, space drugs, and low stakes for the galaxy that are high stakes for hte characters. But that's just me pitching an idea to Disney. I'd watch a Young Kit Fisto show even though we really don't NEED Young Kit Fisto.

I just GENERALLY want to pitch the idea to all writers everywhere: Low stakes for the galaxy, high stakes for the characters.
Not every story has to be about fucking absolute annihilation of all life if the hero doesn't win.

As for Star Wars -- this is my personal bias but I would be very glad to make a case for why the best and most interesting setting for a show is to center it around the Imperial Knights in around 150-ish ABY.

I was gonna make a joke about how there is meat left on Boba, but I don't want to fat shame. And that awful show killed my interest in Fennec as well.

Fennec? Fett? You guys are missing the real opportunity for quality television — let's put the focus on that rascally group of Tatooine cyborg scooter riders, the Mods (I did have to look up their name. Don't remember them being cyborgs either. Actually all I remember is I threw up a little in my mouth whenever they appeared on screen.)

After just watching Andor in all its glory and then thinking about the Book of Boba Fett, yikes ... They're polar opposites in just about every way. It's kind of sad to think about, considering Boba Fett's status ... or former status.

I'm hopeful that Shawn Levy's Starfighter with Ryan Gosling turns out to be something good. It's set after the horrible Rise of Skywalker so I can't imagine it will draw much from that. If it can do its own thing and be successful, along with how well received Andor's been, you gotta believe it will open doors for even more wide-ranging Star Wars projects.

As I have watched the expansion of SW film/TV and remember the original EU and the comics, I have come to the conclusion that unless a story can inform the OT or PT characters and situations, or is closely tied to that timeline, I really don't care that much. Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, Ahsoka - all fine and I enjoyed them mostly, but the exact same stories set in another "universe" wouldn't have interested me.
