Star Wars Movie and Streaming Series Discussion

I'm often guilty of the "that's not what I would have done" bias, but in this case, I got drawn into the show based on its original presentation and then they changed everything I liked about it.

It's like if Sliders fast-tracked to season 4.

Mando did essentially switch up the premise super early - in fact, it did so at the end of episode 1 by introducing Grogu. Remember, we weren't sold a Lone Wolf and Cub story - just a Mando story. Grogu was a complete and wonderful surprise.

(I've never read/watched? Lone Wolf and Cub and always feel weird referencing it but apparently it's THE archetype?)

I'm really curious how this ended up being a movie instead of another season, unless it's just about box office - and that could be the entirety of the decision.

Eh, I’m just hoping Boba Fett is in it.

I just . . . can’t love Grogu, he’s so obviously and intentionally Poochie.

You know... now that you mention it, I just realized I have always had the same problem. I remember coworkers the day after the show premiered just going apeshit about how adorable he is, and one squealed "I just love him sooo muuuuuuuuuch", and I dunno. I've never really been into him like that.

But the trailer still feels like what Dave Filoni said the show was originally about it's like the figures your older brother lets you play with because he wants to keep all the best ones to himself, but does let you have the Boba Fett with the paint all worn off because he's replaced him at least. But I always think that when he has an ugnaught or a background cantina alien in a prominent speaking role.

Yeah, season 2 into season 3 was sort of the mirror to Poochie- instead of going back to his home planet, somehow....Poochie returned.

I know, if you believe what they say, they weren't expecting Grogu to be as popular as he was. I'm sure a part of them always knew/hoped, but I remember that scramble that all those companies had to try to get Grogu merch out before Christmas. And then of course they went full steam ahead. Couldn't even go a single episode in the main Mando show without the two together, which is kind of the only thing that sours the ending of season 2 for me on rewatch. It's still a lovely, emotional moment, but then you remember they're back together five minutes later.

Same thing kinda happened with Babu Frik. I love Babu as much as the next guy, but now it feels like they're just putting the Anzellans in wherever they can (even if it's nowhere as egregious as Grogu). Though to be fair, Star Wars has always done this- they put C-3P0 and R2 in everything back in the day- commercials and all. They put Maul on everything around TPM. If there's one thing Star Wars loves, it's a mascot!

They panicked by bringing Grogu back so soon in BoBF. Imagine if Season 3 had little interludes of Grogu in Luke's training, Mando visiting/calling once or twice, but it was mostly Mando on his quest to get the rest of the Mandalorians back on the same page but he wasn't the same without his son.... And then this movie was the big reunion...

Heck, even if it was halfway through the season or something, it would've felt more earned. I really do look at those episodes of BOBF as the unofficial start to season 3. They may as well be, and easily could've been if they'd trimmed them down a bit.

I agree. OR... make season 3 follow Din's journey in his BOBF episodes, Bo-Katan's journey in season 3, AND Boba's journey, for what it's worth, in BOBF, and change the title to Mandalorians. I know that's veering even harder away from what the show was about initially, but I have a sense switching between those POVs could have improved all three.

Man, I just want to watch Boba Fett be awesome and do cool shit, that’s basically my full stake in the Mando-verse.

1) Let fans of cute little guys doing and saying cute things have their fun. Jeebus knows the world needs more joy right now.
2) Flashback or does he get a new ship like his old ship?
The rumour of Mando getting a new Razor Crest had been circulating for a bit now. From the looks of it, it is either flaskbacks to when the Razor Crest was fairly new (did Mando have it that long?). Or it is a new Razor Crest but with yellow stripes and shinier metal.

I liked the title shot. Gave off a very serial adventure series vibe. Kind of reminds me of the Flash Gordon, etc. serials.

Not sure about the content of the trailer itself. That seemed like a whole lot of nothing story-wise. Yes lots of shots of action and Grogu, but nothing really revealed about the possible plot of the movie itsself.
