Star Wars Movie and Streaming Series Discussion

I just rewatched Andor season 1 for the first time since it aired and I just cannot get over how good it is. The themes resonate even more strongly watching it in this moment - I never imagined myself getting physically worked up while watching a Star War.

I haven't kept up with most of the other media they've been putting out in the last several years. I loved Star Wars growing up, but was more into other things by the time they started cranking out new stuff. I stopped paying much attention after Book of Boba Fett left me cold. Andor season 2, though? HYPED. I can't imagine how it will live up to the first season, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they do.

I should rewatch too. I hate waiting for those episodes, so I'm excited for how they're doing season two.

And still think they should spin off something following Mon Mothma and some of the others for post Rogue One.

Well, according to some of the early reviews that have gone up for the season, Andor season 2 may be every bit as good- if not better, than the first. And while I usually take such reviews with a grain of salt, I have no issue seeing how it could be the case here. I'm beyond excited for season 2, and I think the decision to release 3 episodes at once is pretty genius- we basically get the equivalent of a new movie every week for a month. I don't think anyone expected a show about Cassian Andor to be as enthralling as it was/is, which is yet another reason why I've learned not to judge any bold decisions before the thing releases anymore (Heath Ledger as Joker, for instance). I gotta "let them cook", as the kids say.

I did really wanna rewatch season 1 before 2 aired, but I didn't get around to it, so I may have to watch alongside.

There's also rumors starting that the final arc/episodes will screen in theaters, like they've done with Acolyte, Ahsoka, etc. I'd love to see them on the big screen; if anywhere were to do a back-to-back screening of the episodes and Rogue One, that would be hella sexy.

I had no idea about the release plan for season 2 - excited to know the whole thing will be out even faster! It makes sense too given how season 1 is basically structured into 3-episode arcs.

Excited to hear the early reviews are positive. If they manage to make a second season on par with the first, I'll just have to...well, I guess continue gushing over it every chance I get.

I think my only real problem with her is maybe... A lack of unified vision? I want someone who can plan ahead (for instance, when you know you're going to do a trilogy, plan the trilogy as a whole), and someone who won't bend to the vocal minority of jerky fans.

So, despite reactions to Acolyte... I'd still like for them to pick a new era and go to town there. All new cast, sith armies, new but actually cool ship designs, and breaking away from the saga eras. I'm fine with stuff like Rogue One and one shots like that. And I was talking about a Dash Rendar show in the black series thread to fill in between empire and Jedi, so I'm kinda all over the place.

But for Disney to really make its mark, own their own star wars, I think a soft reboot by focusing on an era they can really make their own would be a solid idea..and I don't mean the post ROTJ era because that's still so heavily OT dependent.

I suppose their era is the early New Republic era which they should bring to a close with Mandolorian Avengers or whatever it is they are doing. Then its time to move forward with the post sequel era. I don't need the full lore on Walrus Man and Boba Fett's retirement party backstories. They need forward momentum and stop the naval gazing.

Would have really helped if they had left Sabine not a jedi. If everyone is Jedi; no one is.

I guess. The further away from ROTJ they get, the less interest I'm having. I'm kinda okay with Sabine being a Jedi though since it played into Lucas's comments back during the OT, maybe before ESB, that anyone can do it if they're trained, even someone like Han. It's like karate. Then he changed that with midichlorians and such but I never forgot his original intent.

Ah, the "Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down" rumors. Like clockwork, they are. I wish the nerds would take their vitriol elsewhere, but this is Star Wars we're talking about, after all. She's gonna hold on to that position until the day she dies, probably out of spite (and I wouldn't blame her!)

Anywho, the first 3 episodes of Andor season 2 were great, as expected. I do think dropping each arc at once is a good idea; as much as I loved the arc, I do think waiting 3 weeks to finish it could've made it feel like it dragged a bit. It's nice to see the first seeds start to get planted and grow of what'll be the Rebellion we all know and love. I don't know if I entirely loved the stuff with the Rebels in the first 2 episodes, but I get the point of it, and I'm sure that by season's end, it'll feel more important.

Everything else was great, though, and unfortunately timely (whether it was planned that way or a happy accident, or a bit of both, I'm not sure). I quite liked that they made Cassian a little incompetent with the TIE; it makes perfect sense, of course- it's tech that's totally foreign to him, so he wouldn't be able to just jump in and perfectly pilot it.

I'm really loving the stuff with Mon; such a beautifully tragic arc; Genevieve can really act her face off. Syril continues to be a total pushover, and his mom continues to be legendary with her snark, but it was nice seeing Dedra step up how she did. Not only for the obvious romantic reasons, but also to show her political prowess and that she can step up when need be.

The stuff with Bix was quite heavy; that poor girl just can't catch a break. That said, I still quite liked it (odd thing to say, but you know what I mean). Between that officer and Krennic's 2 advisor people speaking about Ghorman, it really did accurately portray that "I'm in power, so I can and should get whatever I want, with as little work as possible" mentality that so many have. I'm quite surprised that Disney allowed them to even go as far as they did with some things, but it really added another layer to the Empire's already long list of sliminess. And that's saying nothing of all the talk of visas and deportations they were doing.

I haven't done a whole lot of looking to see what fans think of the episodes, but I can see them being divisive. There was more humor- or at least a slightly lighter tone- in some parts, which some fans don't like, for whatever reason. And the dance scene at the end of 3, which I actually found to be quite powerful, I can see ruffling some feathers. Not like we don't know rock music exists in Star Wars, though, and there's no shortage of nightclubs, so it totally fits in the universe.

At this point, I'm totally down for whatever Tony Gilroy wants to give me, and I hope this isn't the last Star Wars project he's ever involved in.

I wouldn't blame her
Same. I don't even really have a big problem with her. Like I said yesterday, I'd still like for a more clear vision to be at the helm, but if she can accomplish that, great. Bonus points for pissing off the fans who hate her just for gender reasons.
I do think waiting 3 weeks to finish it could've made it feel like it dragged a bit
Agreed. I really need to rewatch season one in three episode bursts. I didn't feel the season dragged quite so much, but the pacing probably could have been enhanced that way. Really glad they're doing it like this.
Everything else was great, though, and unfortunately timely (whether it was planned that way or a happy accident, or a bit of both, I'm not sure)
Seriously. I even started out watching the 'previously on' recap for season one they have on there, which was sooooo well edited. Having that manifesto narrating so much added a shitload. Inspiring like crazy. I couldn't recommend that recap enough.
it's tech that's totally foreign to him, so he wouldn't be able to just jump in and perfectly pilot it
Yes, that was well done. And is this the first time someone said 'shit' in a galaxy far far away?
I'm really loving the stuff with Mon
I actually am too. Her bits were the ones I was least interested in with the first season. Not disinterested, just least. I never would have thought a three day wedding would have kept my interest so well though. Of course it's all the stuff going on beneath the surface that's the point/enthralling, but still. She was fantastic, agreed.
Syril continues to be a total pushover
His bits continue to be the ones I'm not as into. The dinner part was the only time I picked up my phone during the three episodes.
The stuff with Bix was quite heavy; that poor girl just can't catch a break
SERIOUSLY. But yeah, very well done. The Imperial officer actor did a really great job as well, but everyone else just added to the tension so heavily. I even appreciate the 'young people sneaking off to makeout' bit wasn't over played.
I'm quite surprised that Disney allowed them to even go as far as they did with some things
I guess I am too, now that you mention it. As soon as I saw Imperials sitting at a table talking about how to solve the Ghorman problem, I thought of Conspiracy, the HBO movie about the Nazis gathering to come up with the final solution. And I think they did a good job of encapsulating that idea while definitely making it chilling. The marketing execs were a great touch.
I haven't done a whole lot of looking to see what fans think of the episodes, but I can see them being divisive
Yeah, and I'm not gonna. Perfectly content keeping to this safe space for star war discussions, heh.
There was more humor- or at least a slightly lighter tone
True. And honestly, until they started shooting each other, I found the bickering rebels amusing.
the dance scene at the end of 3, which I actually found to be quite powerful, I can see ruffling some feathers
I'm sure. Dancing is lame and for girls. Star Wars is for boys, etc. But yeah, the music and the editing of her losing herself in that moment with the fate of what's his name speeding off into the distance was gripping as hell.
