Star Wars Black Series

Some good stuff coming your way Josh. I am eagerly awaiting those, but I have them pre ordered at Pulse. So, if you are getting them now from Amazon, I should get them from Pulse in 2-4 weeks.

I did however get Lt. Galle today from Amazon. As always, another great looking, unique Clone. I always loved the Clone figures when I was young (I think I was 17 when TPM came out, and 20 or 21 by ROTS), and I just loved getting all the different Clones and army building them. It's still fun to this day, just now they are bigger and cost way more.

I agree- there's just something to collecting all the clones. All the little slight variations, the opportunities for customization with paint, posing, etc. to bring out individual character. I remember back when AOTC came out, and in my neck of the woods, you couldn't find the clone troopers to save your life. Same with ROTS, to a slightly lesser extent. It's nice seeing them fairly plentiful now.

I'm interested to see how Anakin compares to the BOTH set; I'm sure it's the same figure, minus the extra accessories. Or just how the folks who weren't able to get the set feel about them. They look fantastic; the new wrists (are they technically balljoints? Or something else?) have taken some getting used to for me; don't necessarily like how easily they pop out, but I do really like the added range.

Lately I haven't been in a rush to crack open Black Series as soon as they walk in the door, but I got Han from Pulse (way to make him a priority, Pulse :/ ) and I'd been saving Chewie to open at the same time. Really, truly, this duo is my definitive Han Solo and Chewbacca. I don't need imports, these two just do it for me. Han's slick AF, rangy, sassy, smug, all the things ANH Han should be, and Chewie's more posable than he's ever been which has always been my complaint about the older versions. Love the heat tilt, TO BE ABLE TO PROPERLY HOLD HIS BOWCASTER! Just perfect, both of them. I don't need re-do's of EVERYONE, but if they can toss us an ANH Ben Kenobi with this much love I'll be thrilled because while I have like, eight? Ten? Kenobies I love, I do not have an Alec Guinness version that really feels right.

Maybe an upgrade to Threepio, too, but I'm pretty okay with the last version they put out. Threepio doesn't need great ROM, he never had it in real life.

I'm REALLY hoping Ben and 3PO are next up AND shipping real soon, and another release of R2 - I need one more and I stupidly returned the ROTS one before the return window at Walmart closed. DUMB.

When I purged most of my BS to reprioritize, I got rid of that new Luke because the head just didn't hit for me. Now I have the whole ANH squad minus the main kid, but I'm okay with, cause everyone else is cooler.

Been in a bit of a rough spot emotionally today, so much so that I didn't even get around to opening Qimir, but he does look pretty darn good through the window box. The likeness isn't 100%, but it's definitely passable. Most folks will probably display him with the helmet on anyway, so not sure it matters. One thing I will say is I'm glad they went with a whole separate head/neck peg for the helmet. There's definitely a time when they would've just made it a big hollow piece that came out warped as hell. Excited to get around to opening him.

Just got my Anakin solo figure. I wasn't expecting it until November, but I guess amazon got them early. I wasn't able to get the two pack, so this is my first time with it, and I have to say, it's incredible! The sculpt is really nicely textured and proportioned, the hair has some good strand detailing, and the likeness is fantastic! The print is spot on, perfectly applied, and it just looks so much like Hayden. The hair did need a wash though, they did not add it.

The articulation is honestly fantastic as well, it's really easy and fluid to pose, and I love that they added boot swivels. He stands easily in deep crouching poses as well. He has a great ball jointed waist, better that any black series figure I own at least. It reminds me of Mythic Legions a bit. They used this really nice and soft pvc for the tabards (?) and "skirt" pieces, it bends out of the way of the legs easily but doesn't feel like they will get damaged. He can do two handed sword wielding poses quite well, but some are limited thanks to the large black tabards, they just have nowhere to go for the arms to cross over. Some sort of pull-out butterfly joint would be needed for that. He doesn't have thigh swivels but this time I don't really feel like he needs them, the legs get some good twisting at the ball hips and the knees swivel the rest of the way. The elbows bend so far that I have mafex figures with doubles that bend the same amount, they did such a good job with them.

I loved how easily the lightsaber plugs out of the hilt, no worries there. But the hilt is kinda thick, looks kinda toy-like, funnily enough. But it's well painted, shiny silver, and the blue of the blade is real nice. He grabs it really well, his hands are a softer plastic but he does grip onto it good.

However, I do feel incredibly disappointed that they didn't even include the extra force-wielding hand. It literally wouldn't have costed them anything to include it, since it has no paint and it's just one tiny piece of plastic. It's probably already part of the mold, so I just don't understand how they could have not included it. The lack of accessories really hurts this figure; no robes, no extra head, no extra hands, no lightsaber swooshing effects, nothing but the lightsaber. It kinda dampers my excitement overall, but I do see hasbro putting Anakin out again but with the other head, a robe and the extra hand, to represent "Darth Vader" more accurately. Honestly, if they do this I might just get it, the figure is that good. Overall it is a really impressive figure, it shows what hasbro is capable of doing when the proper care and love is put into the design of the figure, but the lack of accessories really do show the other, darker side of hasbro: so greedy they wouldn't even add the extra hand they already made.

I don't at all disagree. The dang thing is already sculpted, so it feels silly not to include it, but I suppose they wanted to keep some things exclusive to the 2 pack. I feel they at least should've included the dark side head. Yeah, the engineering of the figure is way better than the original, but it feels weird to go backwards in terms of accessories. If they're gonna redo an old figure, the least they can do is throw in the same amount of accessories.

I was gonna return my extra Anakin, since the 2 pack one suffices just fine for now, but I did want to put the extra head to use somehow, so I may give it to this Anakin and throw a Jedi robe on him so I can have a good and bad Anakin.

Another reason why I'm still a bit torn on the new hands being balljoints is that it makes it way, way harder to draw from other figures. I know a bunch of people, myself included, took the splayed hands from Kamala Khan from The Marvels and gave one or both to Ezra, and it greatly improved the figure. But I don't know if you can do that for this Anakin, given how new the gimmick is and how few figures have it yet. But I do wonder if, were you to take out the peg, if any of the old style hands would be able to fit in it. Guess we'll see.

I did see a post somewhere yesterday that said Hasbro should do Maximum versions of Star Wars figures like they're doing with Marvel. Not that I want to pay even more for a figure, but it feels like such an easy sale- give a robe, swappable hands, whatever else they deem necessary.

I do think that if you remove the peg, older hands can peg in. I might have seen an example on Reddit.

This is the first RotS Anakin I’ve gotten in my collection. I passed on all previous versions, but I did get the 2pk to keep packaged, so I don’t even know specifically what it comes with. I’d think that the levitating platform and droid would be the exclusives, and not extra hands, heads, and lightsaber beams. But Hasbro gonna Hasbro.

I like this figure a lot. The range on these hinges is so much better than classic double joints in many cases. I like that his tunic is softer allowing him to achieve that double hand grip on his weapon. Can’t do that with the Obiwab placeholder I have in my collection (the original RotS release with the Walgreens clone commander head). I’m impressed with the figure itself, dissatisfied with the lack of accessories.

I've been redoing my Star Wars shelves the last couple days and the SDCC pack I overpaid for showed up - I did not realize the platform had stick-out pieces on either side of it. This thing eats up SO MUCH shelf space and those pieces aren't removable. Bit of a bummer.

With the extra head from this pack I can finally retire the hideous Target Clone Wars headsculpt from a few years ago. Ugh. My other Anakins arrive from Amazon tomorrow which is great because I need one to stay boxed, one to sub in on the platform because this one is staying evil in another part of the shelf and who knows!

I'm also re-doing the Clone Wars shelf with Barriss and others and do we know when the Mace/Sidious two-pack is coming? EDIT: Oh fuck - this is another CONVENTION EXCLUSIVE. Well, there went my enthusiasm.

I was also redoing my shelves this weekend, and eliminated an entire Black Series shelf. This was by rearranging and cutting out some open spaces for characters I removed from my wishlist, and also making a little pile to sell off. Nothing too rare or valuable, just wanna clear some stuff and make a few bucks while doing so. But crossing stuff off the wishlist, one way or another, always feels good.

The MCU shelf got it even worse than Black Series though.

I've really got to re-do my Star Wars displays. Right now I've got scattered figures around the office and one shelf that I've designated "people with lightsabers I really like who make no sense together." Baylan and Shin and Marrok, that random Revenge of the Jedi all-red Vader (I had him in the box for like THREE YEARS and finally took him out to make space and was like - honestly? Weirdly cool!), Kelnacca, the Ronin, Beardy Ezra. Need to something more thematic with it.

So is the official decision to just glue Chewie's bowcaster together? Because LOVE the figure but WTF with the cross piece just not staying put.

I was tempted to do that with the old bowcasters but didn't. If this one is worse then those I probably will glue it.

Picked up Obi Wan at EB today. He's great.

So great that now I feel bad I got the lesser option, and will now pay the iron price for that con set just to quell that shame.

And yes you got to glue that bowcaster. There's like no tolerance on that slot.
