Star Wars Black Series

I think there was enough insane bullshit around the Acolyte specifically that in this case, and cases like it, I hold my breath on someone's opinion until they explain it so I can tell if they're rational or trolling. I mean, particularly with Star Wars, the fact that people were saying "LEAVE THE FUCKING KIDS ALONE" before Skeleton Crew premiered because Star Wars fans are so infamously toxic that it's hard to take anyone's opinion at face value. TBF, I actually have Star Wars, The Last Jedi, Skywalker, Ryan Johnson, and about a half-dozen other Star Wars terms muted on all my social media because I've tired of Star Wars opinions in general.

And as always, I say: fanatic is not a compliment and I hope I'm never labeled a fan of anything.

Totally agree. It's not just Star Wars anymore either. My boyfriend is big into some fairly big names in pop music, and hearing how some of these music fans treat each other- the fight for supremacy on Twitter, the fight to see who's the biggest fan, the absolute insane way they act when gates open or merch goes on sale- it's too much for me. So many times I've seen people- in person or online- tell another fan they met "Oh, I got you", only to completely screw over the person once gates open or what have you. Same with figures- Force Friday was a shitshow a couple times because the fans turned into rabid animals once the doors opened. I've always had a distaste for people like that, but what sealed the deal for me was a few years back when I went to a screening of Raiders where Spielberg attended, and afterward, when people were clamoring for his autograph, and there was some little kid- couldn't have been older than 10, up against the barricade, and some autograph hunter shoved the kid- and I mean hard- out of the way to get to Spielberg. Which, sure, it's Spielberg, but he seemed willing to sign for as many people as possible until that happened.

You're right, though. It's happening more and more that I either hesitate to declare my love of something, or I feel I have to clarify it with "but I'm not one of those fans". It's sad what things have come to and how so many "fans" gatekeep anymore. You can't just be a casual fan, you have to be the biggest fan, or you don't matter. My boyfriend and I both are fiercely dedicated to the things we love, but it manifests in different wants. My boyfriend always wants to be at the barricade at concerts, or he'll line up half a day before something starts (he's always very respectful, though), whereas I prefer to pay a little extra if it means I can get a seat, show up whenever, etc., an attitude that definitely extends to collecting as well. As long as I can be in the room, or get the dang figure eventually, I'm good. If it means that much to you that you're gonna shove someone out of the way, or rip something from someone's hands, just take it. I ain't gonna fight you.

Facts all around.

I think what disappointed me most about Acolyte wasn't that I didn't like it. It's that I wanted it to be good so badly in large part -because- of the pre-release bitching and crying about Star Wars having the ABSOLUTE AUDACITY to cast a black woman as the lead. I wanted to able to pop up whenever people complained about the show and be like 'it's actually straight fire and you only hate it because you're a perpetually miserable racist piece of shit.' But, as you said, with the actual quality of show we got it becomes necessary to kind of parse the reasoning someone hates it and that's kind of exhausting because I really don't want to spend ANY time entertaining the ideas of bigots.

And these incels wonder why they can't get a girlfriend to save their lives. At the end of the day, a surprising amount of people seem to forget that taste is subjective. No one should be made to feel like they have to hate something, nor should they be made to feel weird for liking something. I personally love hearing why someone loves something that I don't. I'm not too proud to say it's changed my mind on a few things over the years. I love when friends show me their guilty pleasures, and it always bothers me when someone, even my boyfriend or family, just goes all in on bashing something. I'm certainly not perfect (see my thoughts on TROS), but it really does feel like some people just don't enjoy anything anymore. I do believe that, if you go into something wanting to like it, you'll walk away appreciating at least something about it, however small. No one is above any specific art form, and it's important you give it a chance, because you don't know how it'll affect you.

The figures of Carson Teva and the Andor figures have been rumored throughout this year, but I don't know when exactly they were first mentioned. But certain YouTubers and Yakface were the places who seemed to mention them first months ago. Carson Teva probably will be next year, as will Zeb, because Sigourney Weaver's character from Mando and Grogu is also rumored. So, Teva and Zeb probably will be in 2026 with her.

I know it's not always the case, but I do feel like once something is announced for either TVC or TBS, it's only a matter of time before it's announced for the other. Carson was released for TVC, so they have the mold. I'm sure it's not quite as easy as just upscaling it a few sizes, but still. Now if they'd only do the same with Lobot and BoBF Boba, we could all be a lot happier.

Score! I came across a lone 501st trooper at Wal-Mart (slummed it because I needed dinner ingredients and I hate Price Chopper). He was marked down to $15 because the package was crushed. I put him back because I have my required 4 in the old style and I wasn't going to get just a lone trooper that wouldn't look the same as the others. When I walked around the corner there were 3 more, all clearanced because of crushed packages. Kismet!
That's a great score! I totally forgot I sold my couple 501st to replace with the new one, but my order for them and the Magnaguard still hasn't shipped. 😅 Remind me next time not to sell my old figures until I have the new one in hand.

Yeah, the thing that drives me up a wall is not being able to trust an honest opinion anymore. Actually one of the first serious convos I had with Ru was about the Acolyte because I said I was really enjoying the character of Sol and there were enough people saying weird things about him he wanted to make sure I wasn't being weird about it. (FWIW, I like Sol the same way I like Baylan Skoll and a few other recent characters - I'm really enjoying the ongoing theme in recent Star Wars projects about old men and regrets, probably because I'm pushing 50 and spending too much time assessing my own life. I think Kenobi was far, farrrrrr from perfect, too, but I liked watching Ewan wrestle with someone who was once a hero who considers himself a devastating failure, and trying to claw back from that. And man, that one scene in Ahsoka, which I wasn't blown away by, where Ray Stevenson looks up at the sky and you feel the weight of decades of disappointment and longing...)

On an actual action figure note, got Barriss yesterday and she's just friggin' great. They knocked the last few female Jedi out of the park. In fact they've just been killing it with their Jedi the past few years. It feels like they've finally figured out soft goods and the face sculpts just get better.

Got the non-black and White Ronin, too, and I wish Black Series would do more Visions characters. I've got a laundry list of characters from that show I'd love to own figures of, though Ronin was the absolute #1 must-have.

I agree we should get back to this thread being about the black series. We already have a thread discussing the movies/shows themselves. Anyway I just got dash rendar and while I'll definitely echo the complaints about the head sculpt it definitely doesn't bother me as much as I'm just happy to have him at all. Bring on Kyle Katarn.

I've also ordered Darth malak from Amazon. While I love the look of the figure and I actually prefer the extra details I do think it's a shame that it's all tied to the cancelled remake same with bastila. Ah well

Nice. I still haven't opened mine but she looks amazing. Also i had forgotten that exchange but remember your perspective gave me a new appreciate for Sol for sure.
I can't remember the exact parts of the convo, but I know you were like "oh no is he going to disappoint me" and then we ended up having a good conversation about the show overall. I can't even remember WHAT toxic thing people were saying about LIKING Sol since most people were trashing him. Maybe it was that they thought the show should've had a male lead instead of the twins or something.

Anyway, I still enjoy Sol, a man of many many cockups, but a noble soul / Sol in the end.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yes! I totally remember that! Except the detail of what I was worried about heh. But you are totally right! That's exactly what was in my head, heh heh.

Can I just, for Grodd’s sake, FINALLY get a figure of Boba Fett *from* The Book of Boba Fett???????
Like come on! Just scale up the 3 3/4 figure!!
Beyond that, I want that 90s EU goodness with more SotE, Dark Empire, and Dark Forces.
And the cantina aliens. ALL of them.
And the Jabba’s palace denizens.

Make all that, and I’ll even buy some candy-colored clones.

I still enjoyed the last episode of Book of Boba Fett. Still rewatch it with my kids. Need a figure of that Boba Fett.

Speaking of Acolyte, I thought Sol, Yord, and Jecki were some of the most interesting Jedi characters of all. And the Stranger was one of the best Star Wars villains of all.

But the show was still rather unsatisfying.

Barriss is WAY too tall!

Any recommendations to switch out the feet?

I personally don't think the height difference is that apparent. To be fair, it doesn't really bother me much (I'll probably just display her with her legs slightly bent under the skirt anyway); that said, I feel like the added height maaaybe comes from her hood/boots? I wonder if swapping out the heel for a flat foot would do the trick instead of a full leg swap? Or finding a way to make the hood sit a little lower?

Yeah, Barriss is wearing come clunky heels. Not sure what the reason is but her shoes are taller than Luminara's.

The Stranger's fight in the jungle vs. the full crew of Jedi was Star Wars as monster movie, legitimately terrifying. So well done.
