Star Wars Black Series

Ha, was literally thinking of the same thing. Wyatt Russell would look more like Dash than this head.

The jaw isn't as wide as some photos made it look, which is good. But he still looks like Dolph Ziggler.

No one has mentioned The Clone Wars as a big part of Anakin's continued appeal. But we spent time with the character for six seasons and he was was given an actual personality. Not to mention The Clone Wars turned into a fantastic show with a beautifully-realized artistic vision.

Hayden is still creepy and idiotic in Eps II and III, but Anakin has improved.

I just watched the first episode of Tales of the Underworld - did Asajj really die off-screen? Huh. Was the outfit the character is wearing in the upcoming version used on-screen?

Is it the face or the middle part in his hair. That seems inaccurate to existing media.
It's like.. the entire head. The jaw/face shape is wrong, the hair is wrong, the lack of facial hair is wrong(ish). It's so wrong that I genuinely cannot figure out what they based it on.

Some scruff would have gone a long way. And make his hair more ginger. Reddish brown. My vision of Dash is heavily influenced by the PotF2 era figure.

There's an excellent reason for that -- the PotF2 figure was actually based on Dash Rendar. Not whoever's fun uncle this figure is based on.

Already at work. Ehrenreich Han Solo popped into my head as an option and the Mimban trooper headsculpt has some nicely tussled hair that I thought fit the character well. So I ran down to the local toy store today and luckily they had one loose and incomplete for fairly cheap, so I grabbed him just hoping the skin tones would work well enough.

The skin tones weren't horribly off. But I was able to pop on a Classified RnR neck to make the skintone difference unnoticeable. The neck is a *tiny* bit long which I'll probably end up doing something about, but even as-is, I already like this a lot more. Fix the neck and add some stubble, I think I'll be real happy.

I finally got my new Han Solo to finish up the currently-released new sculpt OT crew. As I will continue to say until it happens; we just need Threepio and old man Ben and I'll be pretty happy. I also wouldn't say 'no' to a better Vader. Han is a terrific-looking figure. Easily my favorite ANH Han ever. I do have two complaints, one is minor and one is ..less so.

The vest really inhibits the butterfly joints. That's a minor criticism because I know it's more of a character design issue than a toy issue, but I also don't think anything here to try to deal with it. They just seem to have went 'it is what it is.' He also doesn't get as much elbow range as I'd expect from those new deep hinges.

The only REAL problem I have, though, is the wrists. Do people actually like the new wrists? Sure, they move in all directions instead of one, but they also don't seem to have very much ROM. And it definitely seems like I'm getting more inward and outward motion than up-down, so the better ROM is the less useful one. Maybe it's just mine but yeah.. not impressed and I prefer the hinges.

They're looking good together, though. (Forgive the pic, my stuff isn't set up somewhere convenient for lighting or anything right now.)

I actually don't mind the wrist. All my previous Black series figures had issues with the up/down hinge range of motion so this seems to work better at least in my experience with Black series. I have never had range of motion issues with my Legends that have the up/down hinge though so I don't know what happened.

I'll get corrected if I'm wrong, but she died saving Quinlan Vos in one of the books. He deposited her body on Dathomir, but somehow Palpatine Asajj Ventress survived.

My response to this is that my Dash arrived today and goddamn I fucking hate these wrists. I'm pretty reasonable with articulation changes. I've defended the single-jointed knees and single-jointed elbows because I think demanding double joints JUST to have double joints, even though these new joints get exactly the same ROM, is fucking stupid. Fight me.

But these new wrists fucking suck donkey balls. The vertical movement is so much worse than older figures. It's literally a couple degrees of movement. They -almost- might as well be swivel joints. Awful.

Got Barriss and Dash from Amazon today and love them both.

I'm pretty sure Barriss completes my list of female Jedi I badly wanted but was never allowed to have as a kid because of my Dad's stupid, sexist rule. At least the ones that appeared in the AOTC/ROTS toyline, anyway, which are the ones I wanted most as a kid because of how cool they looked. I'd still love to see them tackle Adi Gallia/Stass Allie, but I was able to sneak the Stass Allie with speeder figure as a kid, so she feels a little less important. But still- super easy chance for part reuse on Hasbro's part.

I digress. She's a relatively simple figure when it really comes down to it, but she looks really good with all the others, especially Luminara. I just always think of them together whenever I think of one. There was always an added air of mystery to Barriss for me, since she got a 12 inch doll/figure in the ROTS line but didn't appear in the movie, and I didn't watch TCW until a few years ago.

My most wanted Jedi are now Saesee Tiin and Agen Kolar, and I have a feeling that'll only double after the office duel set comes out. After that, I feel like anything else is gravy. Would still love at least Stass/Adi, Yaddle, Quinlan, and, since the mold exists now, a Coleman Trebor, but they all feel a little less imperative to me.

Just like Xizor, I was never familiar with Dash growing up. He looked cool as I ogled all the SotE artwork, but that's about it. His bio on the back of the box is about all I know about him, but it's still a really nice figure. Likeness-wise, he strikes me as a cross between Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Prince Charming from Shrek; must be the hair and the jaw. 😂 Really dig his colors, and something about that quilted look just takes me back to being a kid- I feel like I had a lot of different figures with quilted uniforms.

Would love to see Kyle Katarn next- yet another character I have no attachment to other than the adventures I made up in my head from the art, but he feels needed.

If I said I want you drowning in plastic women to offset this injustice, would that be weird too weird?

Not at all! I greatly appreciate your hopes for me! I hope for the same, albeit for probably different reasons than most others here. 😂 Funny enough, most of my friends growing up were girls, so for a short time in high school, people thought I was a total chick magnet and was drowning in non-plastic women. Which, I suppose I was, but again- for very different reasons than most suspected.

Also, just noticed- kudos for being a fellow Kansan!
