Star Wars Black Series

Yeah, I can't quite tell if Jaina's body is new, or if they're just up to their photo trickery and hiding/photoshopping the pins out. Jacen looks to be some re-use of the new Bespin Luke? I don't have him handy, so I could be wrong in that. Looks good, either way- simple, but good.

Keep scrolling, you can see the pins. Definitely the same body.

Hmm. Both look nice, but I already don't know a ton about either of them to justify buying a whole 2 pack for Jacen when I already don't know what to do with the Jaina I have. Not quite the Dark Empire Luke and Palpatine I was hoping for.

A trucker and his dog used their their truck to take out the supposed most powerful guy in the Galaxy while he was in his state-of-the-art badass fighter jet, but a dude learning about community in the desert and then wanting to try and bring that into the new era of organized crime ruins the franchise for you.

All right.
Didn't ruin the franchise for me, but I think everything they wanted the Fett show to do was clumsy and unearned. It was clearly rushed, and I am very aware of why and all that. I can watch the PT for what it is and actually get away with not lamenting what could have been, but the Fett show just felt like so many missed opportunities strung together into almost a plot. It really just feels like a rough draft, which it probably was.

I dont know what to do with my Jacen custom if I get that set. Especially if its just for Jacen. It also looks like they may have given him a repainted Kyle Katarn saber instead of his actual hilt. My Jacen uses a Sabastian Stan head.

@Damien I briefly had the same thought—that the ship was “slaved” to his armor or something for remote control and that he had more than one, but there’s so much slavery in Star Wars I assumed tech nerd me was wrong and cynical bastard me was right.

Jaina and Jacen are a must get for me, and I love that the arc troopers are in three colors. I don’t need them but I’m a sucker for arc troopers in general.

The ARC 3-pack looks good and if it is $80US that isn't too bad considering Hasbro's current pricing. Also nice to get different colours rather than say 1 ARC Trooper and a couple of Clones in similar colours.

Because I'll probably never be in a media literacy event.

I have to ask if there was any discussion about historical portrayals in modern media and what it might mean for both accuracy and societal acceptance of history? Maybe even with fictional portrayals of real people/socities?

Meaning does changing a real persons ethnicity by actor, or a societies real history by omission (say not wanting to portray Nazi's in full in a movie) do damage to our understanding and acceptance of history?

Most of the discussion was how to be more media literate rather than getting into the weeds about the portrayals itself. But when the panel airs (it’s prerecorded) the panelists will be answering questions in real time and that’s worth bringing up—I can share the link when I have it if you want to jump in.

Jacen and Jaina is an absolute must buy for me. I grew up with Young Jedi Knights and New Jedi Order. So glad they went with NJO over LOTF for these two. I wish Jaina was on her Jedi robes but that's a minor grumble compared with my absolute hype and disbelief that they're actually doing this set.

Then again: I also like him as an antihero.
I might've liked if if they'd bothered to hire a writer for it.

I know a lot of nerds disliked stuff like the American Graffiti gang, but for me it was just the endless refrain of everyone acting like Boba was a rad badass, but all of his actual decisions being obvious mistakes (several of which his majordomo points out) that he then just sort of lucks out of. Like, if you want him to be a good guy, cool, fine, we can work with it, but why is he no longer cunning? It's his one move in the OT, he can out-think his prey. Why is he having dinner with a bunch of cartel lords and then thinking they won't immediately betray him? Why isn't he already 10 steps ahead of them when Fennec herself is like "hey boss, these people are totally still going to kill you"?

This is my thing, he spends a lot of his show being reactive, and that is mainline hero coded. Wait for the problem to happen and then respond. Keep a status quo. Villains do stuff actively. They have plans. They don't wait for you to make a move, they're already moving and you catch up. They change a status quo. That's what I wanted from Fett if he was doing it for righteous or selfish reasons. I just wanted to feel like he was the most competent guy in the room and I did not feel it at all in that show.

The Maul show is way closer to what I wanted BoBF to be. Hell, Andor is closer in second season.
On the Slave-1 conversation, it shows how sideways I tend to think about things because I actually never thought the Slave-1 was named that because of slavery. I understood it to be a computing/engineering reference. His ship is literally 'slaved' to him, like a system in engineering that responds to a master control.
Always how I thought of it as well. But then they wanted him to be so palatable that even that little linguistic reminder of his days as an antagonist is too much.
My biggest complaint is that they seem to have put ZERO effort into actually renaming the ship.
The problem with all Boba Fett stuff lately.
It's a Disney problem I suppose.
Nah. It's show specific. Cassian Andor murders multiple people in cold blood, at least one of whom was literally begging for his life, and there's no issues with it because those folks were bad guys mostly and Andor is, on balance, doing good guy stuff.

But since all of Fett's opponent's would have been Imperial remnant, gangsters, slavers, and a myriad of other kinds of bastard, it would have been very easy to have him still be an uncompromising and cunning bad guy while still working for the audience. It should even have been easier to make him a convincing good guy. But I cannot reconcile what little we know of him in the OT with the putz we got in the show.
Was Fett really a villain once he escaped into the EU?
Depends on how far in you go. In the comics he stays, at best, a principled but very morally grey mercenary for a while. Either way, all that got wiped before the show, so they had a blank slate. Not only that but they kept his younger version int he Clone Wars cartoon canon and that kid was messed up. He used his dad's helmet (last seen attached to his dad's severed head) as a booby trap to try to kill Mace. That's ice cold.

I wanted that kid but grown up.
Especially when they gave him braided wookiee scalps over his shoulder.
Yeah... people forget that little bit of lore.

But he has a stolen costume and is a notorious dickhead.
I mean, if anything this makes me like him more. I love that Bossk is a total jackass.
In other news, looks like we're getting a fan channel ARC Trooper 3 pack for pre-order tomorrow.
Do we think this is the same or distinct from the supposed "build up" pack?

Weirdly, I don’t have any specific connection to Jacen and Jaina, but I’ll buy this set for sure. I was more about the comics and anthology books than the “further adventures” stuff once they got too far past Thrawn; I think my biggest exposure to the Solo twins was when they were in utero in Dark Empire.

But still: Solo twins!

But also: we need Dark Empire:
-Luke
-clone Emperor
-“Jedi” Leia
-Boba Fett with Cam Kennedy art deco

I had that thought too. I hope it's a different pack. The Amazon description (though I do admit that, in this day and age, who knows if it's even real) spelled out something totally different than this. But you never quite know these days.

Oh hells yes! Jaina and Jacen! I may get 2 of that set.

Meanwhile, has anyone's Nihilus/Traya set actually shipped? Amazon still says mine arrives today, but it hasn't shipped at all.

I got mine middle of this past week. They've definitely started shipping from Amazon, but I live right next to an Amazon hub so I tend to get things fast from them.
