Snow C.A.T. Live!

Well I'll take the win and hope for the rest! I mainly want the Bivouac from the tiers, though I wont say no to Flint either. But mainly I'm excited to FINALLY have a GI joe Troop carrier!!

Glad it funded fairly early today so we have some momentum going into the weekend before people check out for the weekend. Should be an interesting week!

It’s funny what mental barriers reaching funding will knock down. Some of the biggest backer numbers since the early days of the campaign. Granted the last week usually sees that anyway but it’s a nice change after weeks of low double digits.

And one negative day to boot!

8,172 right now.

8,198. I was secretly hoping that once it funded a tier would fund right away, but 1/10th of a tier before close of business is good too.

It's already up at 8222, so obviously there were a lot of people either on the fence, or that already dropped out but jumped back in when it funded. People are weird. I'm really hoping this momentum builds and we can still hit all the tiers, but that's a tall ask.

I'll admit I was waiting to see if it would hit its goals or not, but now that it has I've decided I'm going to see how I do working this comic con this weekend. If I do well I'll toss my hat in the ring on Monday.

The exchange rate still makes this a hard one for me. I'll be easily 600 dollars in if I get it (when I get it, c'mon), and not hitting all the tiers, for that kind of money, is REALLY going to sting and piss me off. So I keep holding off hoping I'll convince myself not to get it or something.

Gahd that exchange rate is diabolical.

My two best conventions are on the same GD weekend this year. Normally I'd be looking to do something financially irresponsible in mid-August, but two con show runners played chicken and nobody blinked and a bunch of us in Artist Alley got the hose from it.

I'm still hemming and hawing but every time I see a photo of Frostbite in the 'cat it makes me happy and have FOMO.

Speaking of--I was a little out of the loop last week. Did they pipeline some more arctic figures or was that a conversation I had with my imaginary friend in my head? Could've sworn I heard they name dropped someone(s.).

Iceberg? I think.

To be fair, it's not solely the exchange rate.
The current exact exchange rate for 325 dollars would be 447 dollars Canadian. But you have to bear in mind that credit card companies will always, somehow legally for some fucking reason, just kind of make up their own exchange rate to benefit themselves. If I'm giving them US dollars to turn into Canadian dollars, all of a sudden it's like 1.15:1, but if I'm buying something in US dollars with Canadian dollars now the US dollar is suddenly 1.47:1. Because banks and credit card companies are fucking disgusting criminals.

So when the credit card company gets hold of the transaction, I'm probably looking at that 325 becoming about 480 dollars...ish.

MINIMUM shipping on this is if I get away with a Pulse Premium membership and get free shipping - so that is 50 bucks USD. So now I'm up to around 540-560 CAD, minimum.

Then I'm going to get hit with import tax on top of that. If they use CanadaPost, I'll probably be seeing around another 50 bucks -- so now I'm at or over 600 dollars. IF they ship FedEx or UPS, you're probably looking at another 75-100 dollars in brokerage fees and 'extra' import taxes on top of that. So yeah.. .6-700 dollars. Which, hopefully, explains why people in Canada (and probably places like Australia) are likely struggling more with the pre-tiers value of this thing. It is a LOT of money for us.

Correct. Name reveal only.

I think you have some errors in your breakdown.

Now I am a Premium member so that takes some of the cost out right away. Here is what I am looking at for the Snow C.A.T.

$367.24US all in (that is what they "charged" me at checkout). I get free shipping as a Premium member which was a big draw for becoming a premium member since Haslabs were free shipping with Pulse Premium. Also whatever this new surcharge thing is, is also waived. Since becoming a Premium member I have ordered at least 2 Haslabs every year so that alone has pretty much paid for the membership.

Now, granted, the exchange rate with CC companies is atrocious, but still the exchange rate makes it about $508Cdn. As you said, give the CC companies their vig and say $525Cdn. That should be the end of it. Pulse charges taxes up front so there will not be any duties/taxes due when it ships. I have never had to pay anything after ordering from Pulse (both regular items and Haslabs).

So I think you are off on your estimates by at least $100Cdn depending on if you are a Premium member or not, then it could be even more.

Anyway:

Snow C.A.T.

8,326 / 8,000 (+347) 104.08% of funding goal with 5d 19h left.

FINALLY!!!!! Glad to see it finally reaching funding. Looks like a good number of people jumped in once it finally funded. Let's hope it can unlock all the tiers. Let's see how many backers it drops around 6-6:30am. Hopefully it is a small amount. I am not expecting too much this weekend as weekends tend to be slower than weekdays for backing.

Backer drop update:

So a little late to the update, but the good news is that the numbers didn't drop enough to push the Snow C.A.T. out of backing. Still a bit concerning though that there were so many backers dropped though....

Snow C.A.T. - 8,267 (-59)

LAAT/i Gunship - 3,096 (-8)
