Snow C.A.T. Live!

Kinda Haslab related, but mostly due to their site being pants.

When you use your card, it doesn't charge until it funds. Used to that.

When you use PayPal, as is the only workaround for their site I've found, my historical use of PayPal is for immediate payment.

Does PayPal hold the pending charge like Visa? I've never been in a case where that would ever have to happen.

Now, granted, the exchange rate with CC companies is atrocious, but still the exchange rate makes it about $508Cdn. As you said, give the CC companies their vig and say $525Cdn. That should be the end of it. Pulse charges taxes up front so there will not be any duties/taxes due when it ships. I have never had to pay anything after ordering from Pulse (both regular items and Haslabs).
This definitely seems weird to me because I've never heard of any store in the US collecting import duties up front. But even if they do, I'm absolutely including Premium in my calculations because I don't have it and would only be getting it because 50 bucks US for free shipping is almost certainly cheaper than the actual shipping charge we'd get hit with on an item of this size/weight. At current, that's just about 70 dollars CAD, let's call it 75 after the CC gets hold of it.
So that's 600 even. I think the only major difference in our calculations is whether or not I'll have to pay any import duties. Based on the last time I got a box from BBTS that was around 350 dollars in value, that was already a good 50 bucks CAD or so. So I don't think our numbers are that far off if you allow for mine including the possibility of import tax.
And even if not - that's still me spending 600 bucks.

Not that that's likely to stop me. But I'd really like to see the tiers unlocked to make that sting less.

I don't think the Paypal payments are processed right away by Pulse, for the Haslabs. I ordered a Snowcat a few weeks ago and was forced to use PayPal. Looking at the Paypal site, there's no transaction listed for that day and my card hasn't been charged yet.

I use PayPal for all my Pulse orders since the phone number thing, and I don’t get charged until the item is in-stock/shipping.

Yeah if you don't have premium then that makes it $375US + tax ($325 + $50 Premium) No shipping or Haslab surcharge, but when I checked out the surcharge was $29.99 and the shipping was $6.99 (both removed because I was a premium member). So if that is what they actually charge to non-premium members and you aren't planning on buying anything else less than $75US in one order over the course of the year (or more Haslabs) than it might be slightly cheaper to just buy without premium. However previous Haslabs have always had much higher shipping charges than $6.99 so that seemed a little suspect. However it may just be semantics since the Haslab surcharge is new and fits in with what they normally charge for shipping on Haslabs.

I know all about the duties/taxes from BBTS from my recent purchase ($24.03Cdn on a $66.50US purchase), but I am telling you Pulse charges the taxes upfront and I have never had to pay anything after the fact. Including the recent Power Days sale items, the Rattler, and Dragon Man (and I assume Cold Slither when it arrives). And that is with Pulse using either FedEx or DHL for the deliveries.

You're in Alberta right? That's what? Just 5% GST? If so then that is all they would charge you for taxes as well. Again not being in Alberta I'm not sure. Being in Ontario I always get charged13% (HST), but as I said that is all. I have never paid a single cent for any Pulse delivery after the initial purchase. Looking at $375US + tax you are right in that after exchange rate you are probably looking at around $541Cdn (without the CC vig). With the CC vig maybe $575Cdn. So pretty close to the $600 you think, but I would bet less.

However, like I said, it could be cheaper to just order without premium if the surcharge and shipping is actually $29.99 and $6.99 respectively. $37US would knock that $13US off the final price compared to getting a Premium membership.

And please don't take this as me trying to convince you to back the Snow C.A.T. (unless it works, then please do!!) haha.

No no... I wouldn't be constantly in this thread if I wasn't already 99% in on this.

It's cool to actually be able to refresh the page every couple of hours and see the number jump up. That's a good sign, at least.

Same, I really want all those food items at this point. I’d rather have them and the campsite tier than Jaye or Flint if we aren’t getting everything. Hopefully they sneak those in regardless.

We're actually already up over 150 backers since the morning drop (as per canprime's post). I think that's fairly respectable gains. If that momentum holds and we get the big final day numbers, it's still technically possible we'll make all the tiers. I'm not betting money on it, but I choose to remain hopeful.

Snow C.A.T.

8,480 / 8,000 (+154) 106% of funding goal with 4d 19h left.

As expected the weekend numbers are lower but I expect to see a steady increase starting Monday. So probably another day of relatively quiet backing numbers.

Same! It’s weird and took me a while to get comfortable doing it at Pulse.

I'm glad you informed me, because I'll just do that going forward since the Visa is borked. In general, I just prefer to account the money out as spent for the future but still have it in case an emergency comes up. Never feels right to pay up front and not get the product for months (or years with some companies) and then something happens where I wish I had that liquidity.

Backer drop update:

Snow C.A.T. - 8,423 (-57)

LAAT/i Gunship - 3,139 (-16)

I'm a little surprised how high the backer drop still is for the Snow C.A.T. I would have thought that now that it was funded, and moving forward at a quicker pace, there would be fewer dropouts. Either way it is funded and moving forward.

The LAAT/i Gunship is still crawling along, but the drop in backers has temporarily put it back below the first day of the Cantina.

Me too. I find it strange that 50 plus people cancel their order everyday. I wonder if the majority of them are people that place the order and then a few hours later cancel and potentially do this multiple times throughout the campaign or if these are people that places their order and days or weeks later have decided they no longer want it and have bailed on the campaign not planing on ever coming back to it.
