SDCC Exclusive Savage Land 3 pack (Rogue, Sauron, Shanna)

I don't really have an issue with Rogue's head (it looks better in the boxed images), but the two head sculpts on the girls look so completely different. Not like, "well duh they're different people" but they look like they're from different artists or companies, which is why I think it's kind of odd. Rogue here looks pretty similar to the new X-Factor Jean Grey head sculpt.
This has been an ongoing problem since 2020 between different sculptors and face printing.

It's why I dumped so many of my pre 21 Legends. There was a sweet spot, but as you say, It now seems like there's just no in-house art style and it becomes very inconsistent figure to figure even with the face printing.

Vexes me.

Wow, that's less than I ever expected. I can't help doing the math on these multipacks. $25 per jungle babe and $40 for a complete BAF is as good as I could have wished for from Hasbro, honestly.
I completely agree! I was pleasantly surprised, so much so that I just went back and checked to make sure I didn't misread the release.

Vexes me as well. Are all of these Paul Harding sculpts? I know some people love his work, but I don't like seeing a figure and recognizing Paul Harding before I recognize the character.

Who was the sculptor who left about the time Harding started taking over? That person's work was a lot of my favorites.

I think I’m going to try and nab this set but I just had to spend a lot of extra cheese on the back quarter of the Zabu wave since I had only picked up Cable and Wolfsbane on that first go round last year. I don’t like the idea of fighting all the folks who have our Savage Land Rogue as their top choice on their annual most wanted lists over the last 20 years back on the fwoosh but I don’t feel as if I have much of a choice. I need a new Sauron since the wings on mine are busted and Shanna is now a must have if I can complete the trio

I don't get the gripes on the Rogue HS. She's been drawn / sculpted / animated so many times that she doesn't have a distinct face anymore, she's basically identified by the hair.

Do agree that Harding sculpts aren't quite the second coming - he nails it sometimes, then flubs on others.

Feel we are in an era whehich will be remembered more for overdone lip paint apps than sculpts, however.

I have a comic book historian friend who keeps saying "red-headed Shanna or bust" so maybe they release another version of her with more reddish hair from her earlier appearances?

I’ve more or less convinced myself that I’m tweaking the hair of this one in arrival, plus painting her costume with the leopard print. So that’ll pretty much guarantee Hasbro doing the double dip at some point…

Rogue sure gives off an Angela Sarafyan vibe - Clementine from Westworld

It’s the open mouth/exposed teeth that I’m not fond of. Makes her look buck toothed. I’ll consider doing the head swap with the green/black head based on J Campbell art.

I feel like she’s got a bit of “Amy Lou Reed [Sex Education, The White Lotus] in heavy makeup” and honestly I’m here for that.

What amuses me about this head sculpt is I've seen a Hoary Host of comparisons across media, and it's just a varied, inconsistent assortment of women with every little features in common. Less so this thread, more Facebook and YouTube and Reddit.

Anyway, for myself, this look is a Jim Lee thing, but... His female faces then were very minimal, and I can't think of any action figures outside of the Mafex Hush line that really capture him. Well, maybe the DCD Hush line before.

Even the assortment of commissions and official art (that new series, as example) still don't hit as that Rogue for me, because as you explain, artists so rarely keep her actual features consistent. Which is also interesting to me because I find Storm, Jean, Selina Kyle (circa Cooke on) tend to have an agreed upon jawline and headshape, etc. I dunno, that's just something I mind with my own illustration.

Anyway!

So excited to descend into the abbatoire for this and the Episode 3 set and Slither. Love you, Hasbro!
