Got in and opened up the new SSJ Goku.
For the cost, he's great value. Two full head options, almost 100% matte finish, he feels really premium. Bandai is getting a lot better with their "discount" releases.
Some qualms, though. The right bicep on mine pops out rather easily. And the head sculpts are... fine? Way better than their previous SSJ Gokus, but not as good as what the third parties are doing. He looks more bootleg than the bootlegs. And the head pieces - face, hair, bangs - don't really want to stay together. It doesn't take much to knock the sandwich apart when posing, and squishing them back together with force is painful.
The new body is very nice. The sleeves are great, and adjustable to change up the look. The rubber pieces work wonderfully. He is absolute hand candy. The shrinking neck is a good idea poorly executed. It should be a bit longer than it is at its longest, and pushing it shorter just looks silly. They also updated where the neck peg sits in the hair... it's towards the back now, so head swaps aren't so easy with this guy. You'd need to pull out the entire neck peg to do it, but then you'd need an entirely different peg system to use these heads on a different body, one that hits close to a right angle. I'm sure someone is working on a 3rd party peg right now, but it's an unnecessary "improvement" that I imagine might be there to noodle with the bootleggers.
Speaking of head swaps, the skin tone on this Goku is unique, meaning this body won't work with a lot of other heads and vice versa. Subsequently, for me, the original Demoniacal Fit Martialist Forever body with 3rd Party heads will probably be my go to Goku. Tonsen/DCG for base form, Air/DCG for SSJ, and DKO for SSJ2. I like that I can capture almost every look I want with one buck and a bunch of heads. The heads also work on the SDCC Nimbus/Gohan set, so there's the option of a slighter body or two Goku's in the display at once, if I want.
I'd rather not have gone third party to build out a perfect "Ultimate" Goku, but Bandai seems to delight in making their builds not compatible with each other, and leaving out pieces you'd want for a complete set. Because of the arm issue, this guy might make it back to GameStop, though he's a great desk figure and fun to pose, and ultimately is pretty cheap. It's wild to think of a Marvel Legend at this quality and at this price. If you're not as picky as me about Goku's looks, he's a win.
