Ryan Ting Laid Off By Hasbro

Ryan and I had a great conversation at NYCC 2023. He genuinely loved what he was doing. This is shitty news. Hopefully he finds a gig that isn’t the action figure industry, it’s just too volatile. I don’t know the names of all the dudes living the dream, but the dudes whose names I do know are losing their jobs very publicly. That’s not a great look. Godspeed, Ryan Ting.

What exactly was his title? Wasn't he the brand manager, more or less? I know Dan is marketing and Dwight is design.
Ryan was also marketing, as far as I'm aware. Either they're both goners or Dan had a higher salary and Hasbro only saw the use in keeping one of them.
I never really liked Ryan (I mean, I didn't dislike him I just don't know him) so I don't feel any personal way about this - but it's bullshit that they just decided to toss away someone with a dozen years at the company in what sounds like a pretty trashy way. But it's also what we've all come to expect. This is corporations. This is what our world is. Because, as was already said, some piece of shit CEO decided the only way to simulate endless corporate growth for the shareholders is to dump some salaries.
Certainly wasn't going to just forego his own giant yearly bonus or massive unearned salary, right? Don't be silly.

That’s awful. Feeling so much sympathy for Ryan. He really brought the team together. He started those draft events during the livestreams.

Just terrible the way employees are treated. These is an awful lot of horrible treatment of employees these days across the board including government and the private sector. I know from experience.

I really hope Ryan gets a new and even better job quickly. So rough to lose a dream job like that.

Man, what a shame. I love the Hasbro guys.

Corporate marketing is exhausting. It's endless hype and fake positivity geared at hawking every product. Hasbro's Marvel team was a breath of fresh air. Their rapport was genuine, and their dry wit always brought a smile to my face. To see traditional, schlocky corporate marketing, all you have to do is look at Hasbro's other brand teams.

I found myself buying more Marvel Legends because I liked the ML guys and wanted to support them. If there were a choice between a Legends figure and MAFEX, I might opt for both. I'm less likely to buy Hasbro toys because of this.

I hope Ryan lands on his feet.
The current CEO of Hasbro seems like the stereotypical “greed is good”/cutting-costs-is-the-only-strategy-he-knows CEO.
This is the status quo for corporations now. Fire people so you can pretend the line goes up forever.

Shareholders are a scourge.

That's awful. The trio is so good, that's honestly devastating news. Really hoping Ryan recovers quickly and that Dan gets to stay.

Hasbro executives in a "meeting", probably at Hooters or the Tilted Kilt:
Exec #1 - "Hey, the toy brand teams have all been working hard for the past few weeks/months on their panel presentations for SDCC. Let's lay off the hardest working one of them all with just a month out to the big event. Make sure you get all of his plans before we don't allow him in the building anymore. And make sure to cancel his plane tickets and hotel room, or better yet, just put it in my name."
Exec #2 - "Are you going to go to SDCC and watch our employees at work?"
Exec #1 - "Oh hell no. I just need a vacay."
Exec #3 - "Toys? We make toys?"

Really surprised by this. Figured any of the live stream faces would be safe. We wouldn’t know Bob from accounting so it would more or less invisible to us, but letting one of the faces of their faces go is much more visible to fans and likely to get negative attention from us. Hope all works out for him. His passion was clearly there even if his delivery was wooden at times. He’s a marketer, not an actor so I didn’t hold that against him.

This news sucks! I always liked the trio and their fan streams. I felt the Legends team was likely one of the safest for job security. I have no doubt he will be fine. Hopefully whereever he ends up he's happy in his work.

This bums me out, not that it all about me, but still... I've always looked forward to the Marvel panels, and it as much about Dwight, Dan and Ryan as it is about what product they are there to hock. You can tell they care about what they are doing, they have great camaraderie, and they are just fun to watch. They were a bright spot for me during the pandemic, and honestly this is just another crappy bit of news in a world that feels like it is falling apart all around us.

To those asking why Ryan instead of Dan, I believe Ryan was Dan's boss, and corporations seem to love to go after what they perceive as bloated hierarchies by eliminating middle managers. I've seen this happen repeatedly. They don't care that they are firing a dedicated employee with years of knowledge that could serve in another capacity, it is just an opportunity to eliminate a position. The fact that it impacts a person is incidental and immaterial.

I wish Ryan all the best and I hope he finds another fulfilling job quickly.

It’s even uglier than this scenario. Ryan will still be at SDCC representing Hasbro at both the booth and at their panel. This new CEO at Hasbro is a complete cluster fuck of a human being and I can’t believe he would do this to Ryan. That man single handedly turned most of us (following the move of the ML line from Toy Biz to Hasbro) from cherry pickers into to completists overnight. It breaks my heart to hear he’s gone…
