Ryan Ting Laid Off By Hasbro

That really sucks. I like the trio. The Marvel streams are by far the most fun Hasbro streams. I hope he finds his feet somewhere soon

Yesterday I received a premonition that one day Hasbro will fire ALL the talent. It will only consist of executives and shareholders running an IP bank that they lease to other companies to make their products. They won't have to pay anyone, they will just collect money on licensing and make themselves richer.

That was one of two premonitions I received yesterday. The other is much cheerier and I posted that in the DC movie thread.

Wow this really sucks. Most everyone has said what I feel. I always look forward to the Marvel Legends fan stream and not just for what might be revealed. I loved watching the three of them and their joy filled me with joy. Hang in there Ryan. We will all miss you on those "live" events a lot. Now get your resume' in order and get it to Mattel ASAP. They need you on the DC Brand and could be enough to get me to rebuy characters all over again. Thank you Ryan Ting. We never met but you felt like a friend I would love to have. Good luck in your next great endeavor!

I’m pretty critical of Legends, but from what I’ve seen in Hasbro’s filings, it’s still a strong performer for the company in an era where toy sales are declining. For that reason alone, this seems like a pretty shitty move and probably is just a balance sheet decision from the bean counters. The hubris of some of these companies to fire the people who are pretty visible to their consumer is also galling. I hope it hurts them in the long run.

I think it will hurt. Prior to Covid I didn't know a whole lot about the people behind the product. I knew John Warden from Transformers and remember seeing some interviews with the Legends team but since 2020 we have seen these guys regularly on fanstreams. Not saying they're celebrities exactly but they kind.of are in our community. Hasbro coldly cutting them will be a worse perception now than years ago I think.

I think he will find something cool, maybe Jada! And as long as Legends maintains thr quality of the last year or so I am good for now.

S**tcanning Ryan just before the SDCC panel he’s still doing is an… interesting flex by Hasbro.

I’m sure he’s enough of a pro not to publicly bitch about his old bosses, but there are a lot of fanboys there who’ll give no damns about loudly criticising the decision.

Yeah, that's so weird. I have to assume there is a financial incentive for him to do it, but it's strange for Hasbro to have a future ex-employee there shilling for them and for Ryan being willing to do this for a company that is sending him off on his merry way. Bizarre all around

Just guessing here, but I think Ryan's attendance at SDCC may be a requirement of his severance package. And, what the hell. It's a trip to San Diego. It's not bad.

Like I said before, ! don't think we have to worry about Ryan too much. He rose to the position of Director at a Fortune 500 company. He's not going to have to go out looking for a new job. Jobs are going to be looking for him.

Now Hasbro ... they should be worried. They lost a great employee.

To quote Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does."

This is truly depressing news. Ryan, Dan, And Dwight work great together as a trio. They've been the face of Marvel Legends for years. Losing Ryan now, its never going to be the same. The energy that the three of them had together was great. We're not going to have that anymore.

Ryan if you're out there reading this, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you get a great new job soon, that will appreciate your skills and talents. Thank you for everything you did for the community, and everything you personally helped to bring out for the X-Men. It was very much appreciated.

I'd love to see him land as brand manager of Mattel's DC line. Maybe some of the Legends style would rub off on the new line and we'd get something more compatible with Legends.
They'd be silly not to hire someone partially responsible for the most successful superhero toy line ever. He joined in 2013, right as Hasbro was finding its footing with ML. Why wouldn't you want to emulate modern ML?
