Realms of the Blacktide Pirate Figures

They showed a few comparisons to other figures and holy smokes, these are way too big. They should have been at most the same size as Mythic Legions or smaller, but these are basically Mcfarlane-DST sized. I get the Squid Pirate being taller, the monsters being taller, but the humans should have been smaller.

If they just tweaked it a little, no huge sheaths, more pirate-y accessories, and slightly smaller, I'd be all in. I was going to at least get the skeleton and squid, but the size makes it a much tougher sell for me.

7" scale is just a non-starter for me. Wish them the best with the line, but being so out of scale with most of the other lines out there (or at least the ones I collect) makes it an easy pass.

I imagine Mythic Legions will do Pirates one day, I mean they already have most of the parts.

These guys released some updated images of their first three figures. The scabbards still look silly but the detailing actually doesn't look half-bad. I could see, if htey scale with a line like Savage Crucible or Mythic Legions, taking a flyer on the human pirate at least, just to see what they're about.

The actual figures look fine. I just don't understand the decision to give them the stupidest-looking swords they could possibly think up. You've got this pretty cool historically-inspired pirate dude, and you just slap Cloud's buster sword on him and call it a day. I don't get it, and I don't really know how many people for whom that is appealing.

Also, is it just me or does it look like all the hands in that one photo are horizontally hinged?

That was my thought too; I know the figures are slightly stylized themselves, I'm just not a fan of the big anime sword look for them. But because of the slight stylization, I don't know if they'd look quite right with just a regular sword from somewhere, but I'm curious to see.

I am now tempted by Karibdus to go with the 4H sea guys revealed today...
