Quitting/putting collecting on pause

Shit.

Kathy Ireland.
Cindy Crawford.
Elizabeth Hurley.
Topanga.
The princess from Neverending Story.
Kimberly from MMPR.
Kelly Kapowski.

My love of the ladies was a wide net.

However, NONE of them compare to Michelle Pfeiffer. Specifically Catwoman Michelle. She might have been my sexual awakening.

Catwoman Michelle is certainly top tier, and Michelle will forever be my #1 for ever and ever, amen. I would put her in The Fabulous Baker Boys just a smidgeon higher than Catwoman, but man it's close.

I'll put this here because it's enough to drive someone down the "quitting" path:

I was at GameStop today and saw the new Star Wars Landspeeder for the Vintage Collection. I decided to play a game of "guess the price before you look at the tag". I guessed a price that I considered high--$50. It wasn't high enough! I was off by $30! THIRTY DOLLARS! $80 for a 3.75" Luke and another Landspeeder that they make half a dozen of already and are just as good. The f????

Five minutes ago I saw the POTF2 one that's on my shelf that I got for like $8 when it came out and I appreciated it more than ever. "BuT iT's NotT tHe NeWeSt OnE". Yeah, I'll keep the $80, thank you.

The new one sold surprisingly well and sold out most places. I only own that one as I never got the POTF one - I used to have restraint in my collecting. But it just sits there and so it went back in the box.

This does not justify that upcharge - I think it was $55 at release.

I like the Luke that came with this one, although packing in a Luke is such a waste of time. Pack in someone that you didn't just sell on its own and someone who may not sell on their own.

Yeah looking at the current prices of vehicles in the 1:18 scale it is pretty scary to think how far they have come. POTF2 vehicles were so cheap compared to today's pricing. Granted the engineering is better today (not by much in some cases) but that just doesn't justify the $100+ Hasbro is asking for some vehicles now.

Same goes for 1:18 scale figures. When they are charging almost as much as 1:12 scale figures you know something is wrong.

Mrs. Smallville loves the Armorer from the Mandalorian, she's her favorite character and the only reason she likes Star Wars. This year for Christmas, she had a sort-of Armorer theme with the gifts.

Anyway, one of the gifts was the 3.75" Armorer playset (the Forge) from the show. I bought it on ebay, new and sealed, for retail. It arrived, and looking it over everything looked great - tape didn't look like it had been messed with, the box was in good shape. I wrapped it up and put it under the tree. She didn't get around to actually opening it until yesterday...and instead of a Forge playset, she found 4 torsos of a generic Black wrestler, all wrapped in that tissue paper Hasbro wraps accessories in. No legs, just the torso's. Additionally, sitting loose in the box, was the Hasbro Legends snowsuit Black Widow from the BW movie.

"What. The. Fuck." is an understatement lol

I contacted the seller, not for a refund (I had bought this thing back in November), but just to let him know what happened. No idea if he was being truthful or not, but he said he bought a bunch of stuff on clearance from various stores and he surmised that someone might have swapped the toys and returned it somewhere before he ended up with it. It sounded plausible enough, but I was still pretty pissed about it.

Anyway, I guess my point is: sometimes its the collector community itself that makes me want to quit or go on hiatus. Between the infighting, the youtube personalities "having beef" with each other, and people doing shady shit like swapping out toys...it all just makes me think "maybe I need a break from everything."

Except from you guys. Somebody has to tell me I'm pretty, goddammit. Might as well be you.

I just step away from The Community. I find I'm happier. There's a reason I don't really want to talk about movies and video games and books even with people in my close circle. Kind of already know what the opinions will be and I don't really care to hear them.

I like what I like, etc.

My biggest struggle in toy collecting, honestly, has -always- been the way collectors treat each other. I really try to push the idea of community. Help each other out, be there for each other, argue and fight but have each other's backs and support each other where we can. But the not only willingness, but seeming glee with which collectors will fuck each other over is so incredibly dispiriting.

It's so competitive and cut throat.

"Just got the new anticipated wave in."
" Oh cool, you're in Toronto, where did you find them or did you order them from someone?"
" I don't want to say."

??? You already f****** have it a****** it's not like I'm going to snipe it.

"This figure was on sale at an import site."
"Link?"

Literally.

People treat their 'sources' for figures like state secrets because they're afraid NEXT TIME, you will be the one that gets the figure first. These fucking people would rather watch a small toy store go out of fucking business than hype them to other collectors because they don't want to risk that store selling out of stuff or them not being the first one to get it. Clown behaviour.

I feel like the source protection is mostly specific to Hasbro. One reason why I don't watch early release videos. I don't see it as much in 1/6. "Limited to 1,500? Who the fuck cares, this store has it or try that one."
