Operation Monster Force

How is the Eraser for anybody who has him? I originally didn't pay too much attention to him, but I think I'm changing my mind.

Initially he was the only one that piqued my interest. He comes with so much stuff to basically swap between more mercenary/SWAT vest attire and a more James Bond stealthy shoulder holster setup. The joints are tighter than a Scotsman's coin purse though, mine literally cracked on every one, I thought he would bound to break eventually. Be careful with whatever you're putting over the painted bandaged portrait as I'm already experiencing some rub-off of the wash/grey paint on the bandages. The translucent forearms and neck/head are cool but the neck is a beast to break free and then only to try to get another neck on there. I don't plan on swapping it too often. But he's got plenty of hands and decent enough weapons. Probably will never use his more sci-fi rifle. He's my favorite of the two, as Caligari comes with notably less, but his briefcase carrying the canister's depicted in the Cage/Connery film "The Rock" were a funny callback.

There's not too many others I'd jump on from this line, but Eraser was the one "well I'm at least getting that," response I had from first viewing of the line.

I asked over on socials, and Bill Murphy said Red's hood will have some wire that should help it keep the proper shape.

I'm trying to think of which soft goods goods I've seen that I've liked, because I think it kind of comes down to having a convincing "droop". Like the Amazon Black Series Palpatine had the bottoms sewn in a way to look like they hung down on the sides that looked pretty good for a mass market figure. Then the rerelease they made didn't have it and it looked awful. I'm sure there's some Mythic Legions figures that have done it well.
The amount of softgoods in my collection is minimal, but there's some good stuff: The Savage Crucible Ball-and-Chain Warrior has the wired fur cape that looks fantastic. The various Mezco Conans (I have all three) have a lot of really nice softgoods parts, and a few that are not great at all. Mezco Crow and Solomon Kane also have really nice softgoods.

There's just a lot of potential problems to overcome if you want to use softgoods. The material itself has to look decent at scale. The seams have to be tight and small or they look terrible (and out of scale, and they mess up the drape of the thing), and anything large or not form fitting really needs to be wired. Few toys I've seen have managed to stick the landing. But when they do it does turn out really nice.

I actually still prefer plastic on my action figures wherever humanly possible. But I'm also of the opinion that plastic doesn't work all the time either. It can be extremely limiting, heavy, difficult to deal with, etc. Even things people complain about like softgoods hoods not sitting properly on the head can also happen with plastic.

Got Dr. Caligari. Really nice looking figure. He definitely looks like a main bad guy/mad scientist. The head sculpt and coat look fantastic. His suitcase and the weapons within are very cool. The coat is made of soft plastic, but it still gets in the way of his hips more than the coats of all of the other figures that I got in this line so far.

Dope.

10/10 recommend owning at least one Exteme Set for photos. It seems insane that cardboard backdrops would work but damn they look good on camera. My only beef with them is they take some effort to put together so I can't just, like, on a whim do a photo shoot with my new Monster Force figures. I have to set aside time if I want to use the castle or lab backdrop.

(I say this with one tab open to Extreme Sets right now because I keep eyeballing their Minka set for some ninja pics... (I should put Caligari in the creepy castle, honestly.)

Oh yeah, I remember why I've never gotten one. My shelves are only 11" high. I don't have a place for a 14" backdrop.
