By popular demand. Of one person. Here's your official thread (which makes it better than all unofficial threads) for discussing good news.

Whatever it is that's making you cheerful in the moment that doesn't align with an existing thread - politics, sports, entertainment, toys. If it gave you a smile but isn't worth creating a whole thread about it; get to posting.

This is a good idea.

This really belongs in the D&D thread, but I'll post it here. Despite scheduling conflicts, multiple month-long hiatuses, and whatever else gets in the way of every TTRPG game, my friends and I are about to finish our second D&D campaign since we started playing 18 months ago. There have been a ton of frustrations along the way, but it's worth remembering that the vast majority of TTRPG groups never finish one campaign, let alone multiple. We have another four (including my second game as GM) in the hopper.

A local college is doing a staged combat demonstration using a scene from one of my books on Tuesday (I'm giving a reading for their writing department that same day and the theater team got involved). It is so weird and cool and funny and surreal. I'm both terrified and absolutely giddy that someone wants to do this.

Let's see, on a personal front, I'm starting a new job next week in my small city's parks department. I'll be the low man on the totem pole, but it's a foot in the door, and I'll be able to make a difference in the community, helping keep it clean and beautiful. Plus, I'll be done by 4 every single day with weekends off, as opposed to this last job I had where I was working until 8 PM every night.

And next month marks the wife and I's 23rd anniversary. She is my rock, my pillar, my everything, she is the best person I know. So, looking forward to celebrating that and her with my best friend. 😀

One of my co-workers gave me 18 farm fresh eggs from a friend of hers who has chickens. I've never had any before. She referred to them as "fresh from the chicken's butt".
Fresh eggs are awesome. They will almost glow when you make them.

I took my 16-year-old cat in for an echocardiogram yesterday. We've had him for 12 years and he's one of the loves of my life. I think he's the single best animal I've ever had. I grew up with dogs my entire life and got him on a whim. He single-handedly turned me into a cat person.

The vet has been concerned about his heart murmur for years and finally insisted on an echocardiogram. We expected bad news. Major medication or even an estimate of how much time he has left. He's 16 and could still go at any time, but the prognosis was excellent. He has two minor heart issues and one that they'll monitor. The cardiologist asked to see him back next year. While I'm not looking forward to paying for another echocardiogram (they're not cheap), I'm elated that they expect to see him next year.

Feels like when our furry companions get to that age, every day is a worry, and every great vet visit is a victory to be celebrated. Glad he's doing well!

Yay for old Kitties!

Old cats are the best. I remember my favorite cat, we adopted as a kitten when I was 8. She was cranky and cantankerous with most people, but she adored me. When I moved away at 18 she was 10 and my mom said she mourned my absence for a month. Every time I visited she sat on my lap as much as possible and followed me around the house. When I was 28, my mom moved and sent the cat, then 20 years old, to live with me. She lived another two and a half years. She was still cranky with everyone but me, and she adored me until the day she went to sleep forever. Groucho was the absolute best.

I've had numerous cats since, all of them awesome, but none as awesome as Groucho.

Glad your old cat is still going strong TSI
