When I have performed similar surgery, I've taken a small screw, snipped off the head, and then after drilling pilot holes, screwed-and-glued it in to the upper appendage and then screwed the boot or whatever in to position. That way, you still get a little swivel articulation to help with posing.I’d recommend drilling a pin into the leg above the boot and into the boot to reinforce the bond. Bending at the knee will put stress on the join, and the boot can snap off. It’s happened to lots of my older customs.
