Muppets (including The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock)

I was just reading an email from NECA that said something like "new year, new releases," and it's just a bunch of horror stuff, and I'm thinking to myself, where the hell is Sesame Street? This shows up about 5 minutes later. It's about time! Looks awesome. I think I'm getting two to use both heads.

Supposedly Big Bird is about 10" tall. That seems about right for 1:10 scale, which is what I think they are going for.

You know, there is this weird thing where I genuinely hate math, but when it comes to calculating scale and size of figures, I suddenly become interested enough to muddle through it. Perhaps if they taught math in school with action figures, I wouldn't have hated it so much.

In any case, I don't think this line is 1:10. Besides Big Bird (8 feet, 2 inches) and a couple of other characters, it is really hard to find "in-universe" heights for many of Muppets, but given various sources, it seems Ernie is supposed to be less than 3 feet tall (around 32 inches or 1/3 the height of Big Bird) and Bert is about 36 inches tall.

If Ernie's figure was 1:10 scale, it would be about 3.2 inches tall.
At 5.6 inches tall, the figure is closer to 1:6 scale.

If Bert's figures was 1:10 scale, it would be around 3.6 inches tall.
At 6.5 inches tall, this figure is also closer to 1:6 scale.

So, it seems that these guys are bigger than 1:10, though the ratio is actually rounded, and of course this based on characters whose heights are tough to nail down. Look at it another way, the DST figures were intended to be true 1:10 scale, and these guys are a heck of a lot bigger (as are the Palisades and Boss Fight figures).

So, if you use 1:6 scale, the Big Bird figure should be 16.3 inches. Alternatively, if you take the fact that Ernie is intended to be 1/3 the height of Big Bird as true, then the Big Bird figure should be 16.8 inches.

I think either way, this figure is going to be undersized (if it is really 10 inches), but as long as it looks good relative to the other figures, most people (including myself) will be happy.

We will see once it arrives. I think the heights as you note are really hard to judge for the characters we only see from the torso up.

I’d be content with Big Bird being double the height of Bert. If he’s taller than that, gravy. The fact that we’re getting this guy at all boggles my mind. Even at whatever height we’re looking at, I don’t want to imagine how much he’s gonna cost. $80? $100? How tall is the tallest NECA 1:10 scale figure they’ve made? Does this creep into quarter scale figure prices?

NECA's done other 10-inch figures as deluxes (TMNT Cartoon Chrome Dome comes to mind - AI lists a few others), not at quarter scale pricing. Of course, that was before tariffs, so who knows...

I have Chrome Dome, and that doesn't feel nearly as tall as I'd want BB to be. I have to imagine there are other examples of oversized figures they've done over the years... How much did we pay for Chrome Dome?

Big Bird looks great! The fact he comes with the OG head is really cute too. Has there been any update on the other announced figures? Namely Oscar the Grouch? Once I have that grumpy trash man on my shelf, I'll really only need Cookie Monster to be announced and I'll be happy with the line.

In his interview with Veebs a little while ago, Trevor said Oscar would be coming out later in 2026. He also said that a previously unannounced character is coming after Big Bird. Since he mentioned Sesame Workshop wanting more characters to be represented in the accessories pack, I'm guessing Cookie Monster is the unannounced character, since he's the last big classic character.

I understand many folks will probably be satisfied with the line after all the main characters are done. I just hope there are enough of us wanting more obscure characters for the line to continue. I don't think they could get to a point where I would be out.

Agreed! While I could theoretically be satisfied if the line were to somehow end there, I'd still be totally down for the likes of Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, the Two-Headed Monster, etc. Not to mention a Super Grover, since it seems that'll be a separate release from the regular one.

The way things are in the world, and consequently, the toy industry, I have to be realistic. I would absolutely buy whatever they make beyond the most popular characters. BUT I’m not holding my breath though for characters like Forgetful Jones or Don Music or Biff and Sully, as much as I enjoyed them. Trying to appreciate whatever we get, which could ultimately be limited.

Snuffleupagus is a must, the problem is he is as tall and as deep as Big Bird. Maybe they can do him in two half’s like the actual puppet, Snuffy BAF. 😀
