Mortal Kombat Klassic figures by McFarlane Toys

Especially coming off of Hasbro where they're trying new things with Black Series and legends.
Yeah. Five years ago these are perfectly good figures. Compared to what his competitors are doing, they're just... dull. I don't hate them, they just really don't shine. I mean even compared to his DC or Witcher figures they're boring. He's literally done better Mortal Kombat figures himself. They don't suck. Scorpion poses well. (He's got knees like Harvinger's doing with Savage Crucible, which is cool, but then you compare that to no thigh cuts on Kitana and it's like, zero effort.)

I actually wouldn't mind if the G.I. Joe team undertook Mortal Kombat figures in line with the "Klassified Series." Both have plenty of ninjas to assail my wallet with.

I've been hoping for that a LOT, but I also can't see it ever happening. I suppose you never know. But I am FULLY on board with being able to relive my childhood Snake-Eyes and Scorpion adventures.

I feel that way about pretty much everything Todd does. He's just so behind the times. Everything he does feels like a good figure from 5-10 years prior to its actual release date.

The shin guards on my Ninjas all came off.
"The shin came off my ninja-man."

I got my set of MK figures and they’re okay. On the one hand they do a nice job of looking like the green screen actors for the game and that’s definitely enough to make me want to stick around for at least the rest of MK2. On the other hand the lack of accessories along with the limited articulation is frustrating. But we will have to see how things shake out. For now I think I’m going to keep collecting these but on a provisional basis

After handling these figs for the better part of the day, I can’t help but think back to around the mid 2000’s when Jazzwares had the MK license and they were making figures for MK Deception and Shaolin Monks. The figures were great as far as their likenesses were concerned but the articulation was weird and the plastic felt a little cheap. They peaked towards the tail end of Shaolin Monks but then took a nosedive when they started making figures for MK9. I hope that Todd doesn’t suffer any of those same shortcomings that Jazzwares did. With any luck once his stint with the DC license is over it will free up the budget for the MK line and they’ll be much better quality.

I found Liu Kang, Scorpion and Sub-Zero at Gamestop today so went ahead and picked them and cancelled by pre-orders. I really like them. Now they're still McFarlane, but I think they're betting figures than what they put out in their MK11 line. They also fit better with my mental images of the characters from the original games that I played when I was in college on the old Sega Genesis. The articulation is outdated and the figures are relatively plain in general, but I plan on continuing to buy.

Apparently there's 2pk's of blood-covered Scorpion and non-bloodied Raiden in his red jumper. All the Scorpion accessories you wanted come in THAT 2pk. The other is translucent legs Reptile with all the likely accessories that would come with him along with a blue-clothed Liu Kang. The question becomes, do I want to buy a Raiden I didn't plan on just to get Scorpions MK1 head and call it a day on that character?

I mean it all comes down to personal choice. I’ve personally never have been a fan of the plain cloth styled masks. I like the more ornate designs for the ninjas. Then again I’ve never really been a fan of the quilting on the Ninja’s tunics and I’ve always preferred the plain design that came from sources like the original MK movie, Malibu comics and then for Sub-Zero specifically; MK Mythologies. I really hope we inevitably get to these versions from Todd because he’s known for going out in left field when it comes to designs of the more popular characters

I should have known that McF is going to McF and makes us buy an alternative look for Liu Kang to get Reptile. It appears to be true to have to buy bloody Scorpion to get Raiden as well but I have to believe that they're also going to do Raiden with the blue tunic and not just the red, might just wait for that - but I certainly do want a Raiden. He's one of the few that I didn't get from McF's earlier MK figures.

They are. Raiden and Reptile have both been announced as single releases.

The Reptile is a variant with translucent legs.

Are the translucent legs meant to simulate something from the games? Or is it just one of those "it looks cool," things? I don't remember anything like that, but it's been a long time since I played the early MK games. Raiden would have made more sense since he had the teleport move, but knowing McFarlane that'll happen eventually too.

Yep, Reptile could go invisible or "camouflage".
