MONDO 1/6 TMNT

Oh wow!!

I'm looking forward to the Mondo video this week. Wonder if Pixel Dan will get to do one again as well or if that was just a one off as they wanted to hype the line (definitely seems to have worked!!)

Mondo's youtube doesn't have a stream scheduled until the 31st, looks like. But it does have Leo for the thumbnail.

From Mondo's Toy Talk this week.

Started with some Donatello updates. They showed the packaging and it looked great. Art by Aaron Conley on the front, same art (minus the character) for the insert which can be removed and used as a backdrop. Each turtle will have a unique backdrop. Front flap has a "story so far" setting up the Mondoverse and unfolds for a 2 page comic. Comics will be unique for each release, continue the story and show where each character is up to at this point. Don's is his fight with the Mousers and creation of the Mousebros.

They later added that Don will be shipping sooner than expected and to look for updates over the next few months.

Leo they showed the prototype and some behind the scenes development artwork and images.

So this Leo has basically embraced being a ninja and is becoming a master in his own right. He's still the leader but has also gone in his own direction, going out solo at night, being a ninja. The 4 bandana colors wrapped around his sword sheath are to show he's always thinking about his brothers and they're with him even when he's out solo. He's still good but he's older, has a bit more of an edge (like the more intimidating masked look). For his look they were inspired by games like Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden from the 90s. The hood and cape are wired.

As mentioned before Don made his Odachi, it has a heated blade for cutting down Foot tech. The Kawasaki Ninja bike trigger fits the idea of Don using found tech but also an Easter egg to Kevin Eastman sponsoring Kawasaki Ninja races back then as well. The kusarigama also has a Don tech look and the weight at the end of the chain is the end of the ooze canister which is a nice touch. Other weapons, the mask, etc. are all stuff handed down from Splinter. Fits with the idea of Leo dedicating himself to his ninja training and mastering more than just the katana, and the idea of him being a leader, learning this so he can teach the others of needed. The details on them look really nice.

The meditation head can't eye swap (so can't use the closed eyes with Don). The chest is soft and the shell is hard so there's a decent range of motion for the body. He can almost do the splits, double knee joints but acts more like single joints due to the knee pads (they say they chose looks over articulation).

Leo's belt looks cleaner/more polished than Don's. Leo is a ninja master who looks after his gear, Don spends his time in a messy lab, idea is personality comes through in their unique looks. Skin tones are all same family of green but not identical.

Roadkill Rodney has it's own stand and the wheel moves. They were inspired by the old video games so that's why he's included. Arms are articulated (bendy). Don's mousers are meant to look beat up whilst Roadkill Rodney is clean and fresh off the production line at the Technodrome.

They confirmed Shredder is next and then the other turtles (which we knew from last time). No surprise, given they'll want to make a figure, but they also confirmed Splinter is alive in the Mondoverse.

While I don't intend to buy either Shredder or Splinter, I am interested to see how much taller humans are than turtles and Splinter in the "Mondoverse," and whether Splinter is smaller than even the 4 brothers we're getting. I assume since these are based off the first film or so all 4 turtles should be about the same height?

Sorry, I missed that point! They confirmed all 4 turtles are the same size and height.

Given the turtles are listed as 10" I'm going to assume Shredder will be 12" in line with their human MOTU figures. Hopefully Splinter will be shorter.

Ordered Leo today. Still had a $10 tariff on him but overall he came out $14 cheaper than Donnie. Thought that was odd but I'll take it.

2 down 2 to go then I'm out!

I finally saw that Mondo put up a listing for a non-timed edition of Donatello. Still comes with a lot of accessories, so he's kind of tempting.

What are the chances Sideshow will put up pre-orders for him? They've sold other Mondo stuff, including their 1/6th scaled figures, but don't have a listing for Donnie yet. It's not necessary, but it would be nice to be able to order these on Sideshow like I have with the Hot Toys and Exo-6 figures I've been buying.

Also, what do people think are the chances of April getting a figure? They're doing some fabric elements for at least some of the figures, but April would necessitate a full cloth outfit, so I'm not counting on her making the cut.

Can't say about Sideshow but they did mention April during the Donnie episode of their Toy Talk videos. Sounds like yellow jumpsuit will be the starting point as it's the most iconic but no idea where in the line she'll fall.

They did John Nada from They Live with a full soft goods outfit so I wouldn't rule out April having soft goods. If they're going for a movie look, then I would assume that's the approach they'll take. And Judith Hoag seems down for most anything when it comes to TMNT toys (though I did see some people suggesting she is part of the reason the NECA jumpsuit figure never got released) so I would be surprised at this stage if she doesn't happen. Especially with Mondo claiming the sales for these figures have been among the best they've ever had for their figures.

Given the look of the TMNT line I'm expecting April (and other human characters) to look more realistic than say their MOTU line but I'm also not expecting actor likenesses from the original films.

Supposedly Hoag was in talks to reprise as April for the Last Ronin film that was supposedly R-rated and was coming before it was shelved.
