ML Mini Comic wave

Full wave arrived from Amazon. Bunch of mid figures, but welcome characters. Miles was my least anticipated, and he remains my least enjoyable. Give the kid some matching hands besides thwipp hands. One C-grip, one wall crawl, one fist? Adam was next on my list, and he's fine. I do wish he had a more neutral expression. Opened Daken next and promptly removed the inner claws. I don't mind the three claws, or even where they're rooted. But all three extended looks messy, like they're going in three different directions. I prefer the unmasked head, the masked head has a goofy half-growl-half-grin. ROM next, and I really have no connection to this character, so I can't share in the universal excitement for him. He's fine. Banshee next, and I like him, but wish he was on a slimmer body. I don't think of him as being this built, as built as Cyclops. He immediately went into the permanent display to join the rest of the Giant Size X-Men. Iron Man is my favorite, and it's clear they gave him a lot of TLC. I just wish he was bigger. I don't think he should stand eye to eye with Cap. This suit is supposed to be bigger. Like, I don't think his feet should actually fit in the armor's boots. It's meant to be taller, and for the boots to have nearly lifelike jet engine capabilities. But whatevs, it's comics, and the figure wins on details and articulation.

One thing DD does that I don't see at many other online retailers is a constantly updating ship date for preorders. The ETA updates regularly, including moving dates forward as they are close to being available or pushing them back if they're arriving after the original ETA. It's not always perfect
DD does do this - but they don't communicate the change to people who have already ordered the product, which I find not cool. I had a Darth Maul on order with them for a YEAR and they just kept pushing back the date with ZERO communication unless I looked for it. They eventually cancelled that order because DUH - and I'd grabbed it a year prior at a store that WOULD sell me the item. It's not that hard to update customers.

Target was closed for Easter yesterday, which was a nice surprise when I pulled in. I decided I did need to buy Dr. Pepper Peeps for someone who only drinks Dr. Pepper. But instead I went back today and got them for 30% off. :)

Amazon delivered four of these yesterday and I really like this packaging! Its colorful, fresh, NOT a nostalgia retread. Banshee really needed alt head options or a power effect - or hell, even BOTH?!? 🤯 Rom looks cool, and Ultimate Iron Man looks cool - it's going to be Riri on my Disney+ shelf - I think that's why it's the size it is, for an eventual repaint. Daken I like and completes my Dark Avengers. :)

Funny you say not nostalgic. They reminded me of the Return of ML cardbacks (Terrax wave, Arnim Zola wave, etc).

Banshee next, and I like him, but wish he was on a slimmer body. I don't think of him as being this built, as built as Cyclops.
Ain't that the truth. I wish Hasbro would give us more body diversity, but we're nearly two decades into Hasbro's Marvel project and I've given up on that.

I had already had Dakken ship from Pulse. Now it says Adam warlock has too. So, all I have left is Banshee. Banshee is the one I want most from this Wave too.

I'm tempted to get Miles Morales. I don't have any Miles Morales figures.

Warlock and Banshee arrived yesterday... the other 4 got pushed back for delivery today.

Warlock is... fine. He doesnt look dramatically different from the previous Warlock figures I've got. I'm sure the body is better... but its a very basic design and I honestly would have preferred the 70's Stalin costume more.

Bamshee is awesome. Nothing complicated about it, but its just nice to finally have an actually good figure of this character in this costume.

Now its all about that shiny Galadorian. Cant wait for him to get dropped off.

I would love if a future Mini Comic wave included any of the Western Heroes who had their own books! I'm dying for a little love for Marvel's western heroes!
We came so close.

A couple of years ago at SDCC, I mentioned the western heroes to Dwight. He said he actually pitched the idea of a boxed set that would include Phantom Rider, Red Wolf, Two-Gun Kid, Kid Colt and a modern character created by Gail Simone called Outlaw. The set would also have included a horse.

Alas, the idea was shot down by the other members of the team because of the potential cost.

It's a shame because in my mind, Two-Gun, Red Wolf and Phantom Rider are necessary for the Avengers, Kid Colt is just cool, and Outlaw is a fun character. Plus, y'know, a HORSE. Hasbro could get SO much reuse out of that mold. They really need to look into that at some point.

This frosts me for a couple of reasons.... first, therr is SO much reuse potential for a horse in Legends its stupid. Once they sculpt it once they could sell it to me a dozen times over with different characters.

As for the cost of the rest of it.... Phantom Rider could be done fairly cheap. Two Gun Kid and Kid Colt could honestly be repaints of each other with maybe a unique part or two to differentiate... and once done could be reused again for a few of the other western heroes mentioned preciously, so more re-use. Red Wolf would require a little dedicated tooling... but even then they ould skip the fringe and just put him in pants. The new parts would be moccasin feet, the head with the wolf cowl and the loin-cloth overlay. The torso arms and legs could almost certainly be reuse. As for Outlaw... probably not difficult. She wears a bikini top or vest, a skirt or jeans w/ a criss crossed gun belt owboy boots and a cowboy hat...

Honestly I don't think that set would have been all that tooling intensive outside of the horse. And like I said, they could reuse that horse sculpt a dozen times.

Had a chance to open these tonight.

  • Definitely wish Banshee was on a leaner body, but as a reprint from the blue and gold and him being one of my favorite characters... I'm happy. Hilarious that they shipped him with a gun hand though. I know it's to give options to hold the mini comic, but Banshee being strapped cracks me up.
  • Is there a previous release of this Miles? I don't think I have him on this buck. I really like it! It's a bit delicate and the hips are odd, but he can get into some crazy poses. Weird hand selection for him, too. Unmasked head looks too mature for the buck.
  • Adam Warlock is going on that list of figures I would like better with less expressive faces. 100% chance they reissue him with a neutral expression and no infinity gauntlet, right? I do like the gauntlet hand a lot, but if you want him to hold the staff and use the gauntlet has to hold the staff with... another trigger hand. So weird.
  • Daken - kinda cracks me up that Daken is the body so many people want MCU Wolverine to have in real life. It's so surreal to have a really solid Wolverine figure on a thinner, taller buck, but I like him. Only complaint is his claws are so thin that they don't feel very sharp when posing... but acknowledging that they are comic accurate in shape. Could've used a few more hands, but he's fine without.
  • Sweet Christmas, Rom is glorious. GLORIOUS. Just a magnificent bloody figure. I'm not even a massive Rom fan and I think he's a top ten figure of the year.
  • And like every single wave ever, one of the figures I was least interested in impresses me. Ultimate Iron Man is a beast! He and Miles were my poor impulse control purchases and UIM is the one I can't stop messing with. Got me thinking if there are any other Ultimates I want, considering I don't have a huge love for the comics line. Thor for sure. They'd get me for a Wasp but I don't NEED her.

(Sidebar, I was looking up the Ultimates to refresh my memory of that roster and the Blue Marvel et. al. Ultimates cover popped up and argh, comics America Chavez, Hasbro. Why has there never been a comic America Chavez yet?)

and a modern character created by Gail Simone called Outlaw.
A modern character should have been Kushala.

Count me as 1 more for Banshee should have been 1 tick leaner. I wish the screaming head had sideburns too.

If they redo Adam Warlock and he's not Starlin style we riot.

Banshee and ROM came yesterday.
Banshee is pretty much what I expected. Nice to get him in the classic green and yellow. Probably will go with the screaming head.
ROM is a chef's kiss! I'm not even a huge fan. But I remember him as a toy in the late 70's. He always looked interesting. Definitely want to encourage Hasbro to make more figures like him. Day 1 purchase and no regrets.
