McFarlane DC Multiverse

Does anyone else hate Zatanna's outfit? I know it's not a reveal, but the fishnets with thigh-high boots and that big hair - she looks like Black Canary got mashed up with Wonder Woman with a top hat on top.

Also, all those Marvel reveals and not a single female. AGAIN. I don't know how MVL statues there are at this point, but I think it's two females total.

Finally - Sara Pezzini - from McFarlane? How is her thong going to look sculpted onto a diaper? That's an engineering feat I look forward to seeing.

Fucking hell, 2 Flash figures and they're reusing the BB buck again? Ugh. Props for being consistently awful, I guess.

The others don't do anything for me outside of Larfleeze and Blackhawk (gotta grab that Poland representation for the shelf). Mostly easy reuse. Might grab something if the new sculpt looks exciting, might do that with the Image figs.

Apparently they're doing her "undergarment" white-ish sheen wetsuit thing from the relaunch books Silvestri is putting out. Honestly it's a very boring outfit. But as diaper-dependent as Multiverse figures have become I'm guessing it wont be much better than the Catwoman with the odd bulge everyone was on about when it debuted.

What exactly is special about "Elite" figures? More accessories? Reddit said was for videogame properties but clearly this isn't that. I'd consider Savage Dragon but only in his cop uniform rather than his Die Hard attire. Plus he looks like he'll be shelf diving like no other.

I'm souring of these tags Hasbro and McFarlane are putting on their figures. "Elite", "Maximum", "Collector's Edition"......there's nothing extra put into the figures themselves, there's no staggering new innovation in design. It's just a label and a higher price. Sometimes, if you're lucky, there are some extra accessories thrown in---an early bird assortment that are generic enough that they can reuse on another figure, but sometimes you don't even get that. Stop gaslighting us with these fancy tags and just say a standard figure costs $40-$50 now.

I thought Elite meant $50.
I thought it meant $60.00.

Let me just opine that if this is a trial balloon, it’s one Todd should’ve sent up 30 years ago.

There is a current nominal Image Universe. It consists of the characters and creations of the Image founders minus Jim Lee and Whilce Portacio. It also contains, to the best of my recollection, the Maxx, Noble Causes, and most importantly, the extended Invincible roster. It also seems to overlay some sort of Image Multiverse. Including Millarworld and Ghost Machine.

The upside is that it’s a possible replacement for Todd for the DC license. It also services a fan base that’s largely been forgotten in terms of toys and merchandise in general.

The downside is that each creator has to be negotiated with individually. Liefeld may or may not have access to all of his characters. Invincible is already spoken for by Jada. I dunno if it’s possible to split the license at this point for another scale. And I’m certain Jada would want to be compensated.

The big thing is for a retail line, a $50.00/$60.00 price point isn’t sustainable. Problem is that for Image, you’re likely starting at a lower manufacturing baseline. Just for the sake of using round numbers, if Todd produces 100,000 pieces per retail figure for DC, the Image number might be half that. Unit cost goes up. We’d probably be looking at a $29.99 basic figure. At minimum.

Could be fun. Could be a pain. Finding the Elite double Red Platinum Collectors Edition Savage Dragon in his police uniform at GameStop might be tricky.

Grabbed Sandman in store yesterday. No real attachment to the character, but he looks cool. I love me a good gas mask (weird thing to say, but I digress). Worse comes to worse, I may see if I can't work him into an Arkham Shadow Scarecrow. No idea how, but could be a fun little project.

Of what was shown, it'll just be Professor Pyg and Larfleeze for me. I'm glad he's doing another Lantern Leader, don't get me wrong, but I think it'll just bum me out even more when he inevitably doesn't do any of the others. Saint Walker, I feel, would be especially easy to do; just reuse a lot of the same parts, paint them blue, and add a new head and hands. But alas.

Little analysis of yesterday’s announcements:

Image Founders and Ghost Machine. Intriguing but need to see more.

Sixteen DC figures announced. I’ve included Spartan.

1 Batman character.

2 Superman characters.

3 Flash Characters.

3 Green Lantern characters.

2 Females.

6 extended JLA members.

1 JSA member, 2 adjacent characters.

2 characters from outside mainstream continuity.

1 Army Builder.

1 Legionnaire.

1 serious deep cut. Black Condor II.

Blackhawk. I’ve wanted a good Blackhawk since DCD put out the New Frontier version.

Spartan. Always want more WildCATs.

I don’t know whether to praise or curse Todd, but thanks to the half assed nature of some of his figures, I have learned how to wire capes, add thigh articulation, add more ab crunch, and so on.

I just finished doing all of those mods to the new Batman Inc. figure and the rebirth figure.

The former was a pain in the ass, the latter was easy. Still though, shouldn’t have to do any of this stuff myself.

I got Silver Age Batgirl delivered today from Gamestop. Still waiting for Scaecrow & Riddler. I did see the Batman Inc Batman today and the glow on the chest is more subtle in person. I might get it, not sure. Surprisingly, I saw Guardian at Target today. I thought he was a Walmart exclusive. I picked him up in case my Walmart pre-order doesn't go through. I got an email saying my Red Tornado figure shipped. I hope my Blackfire figure went through.

Found the new Peacemaker and the whole Batman Returns wave at Target today. Picked up Catwoman, Max Schreck and Peacemaker and saved $20 with their $20 off $75 promotion right now.

They also had a solid case of the pkatinum movie Mr Terrific and had like 20 Metamorphos on clearance for $12.49 each.
