McFarlane DC Multiverse

Bummer. WB has a crazy stupid portfolio, too. Also the Image of it all.

And not WB, but I'll always be sad McF didn't bang out the rest of the Cyberpunk game cast. Not even female V default.

Yeah... that Mr. Bones is must have for me. I've never purchased directly from McFarlane Store before, but he got me with this one... and I guess Obsidian too.

This Mr. Bones looks so good. It appears to be one of the best figures that McFarlane has done in this line. This is a must have for me, personally. I hope that it's not an instant sellout like a lot of other things have been lately, especially since there will be no other place to get this other than MTS.

Awful to hear about the layoffs. McFarlane is such a strange space - I feel like he gets a legit shot at almost every great IP (even Marvel with his statues) but somehow never fully sticks the landing. My collection is littered with casts of characters he started and gave up on. I can't help but wonder, because I've bought more Multiverse figures in the past six months than I have since launch, what an alternate timeline where he started with a wider net of DC character and how the line would look now. Actually went back and got some movie figures I skipped assuming we'll never get a comic version of them to fill out my Justice Society etc. because we're getting some of those characters now at the end.

Still have not seen hide nor hair of Steve Trevor and wondering if I should just eBay one to be safe.

Bummer about those layoffs but maybe not all surprising all things considered.

I'm late to the party but I got the Batpod today. Only one target in my area still had it, but they matched the online price and took off 10% which got it down to a very reasonable $55.

I'm not sure about the "hot guns" deco, I might paint them or I may leave them, well see. Glad to get this though, I thought I might waited too long.

I’m not sure what Todd could’ve done to keep the DC license. Sounds like Mattel just showed up with a dump truck full of money and backed it up to DC’s doorstep. That’s pretty much out of his control.

But yeah, his over reliance on Batman and his discomfort making female figures certainly hasn’t endeared him to certain segments of the fanbase. I simply think he liked the edges and corners of the DCU. He figured out about 18 months in that his core buyers weren’t exactly with him. After a course correction which took 8-10 months, we’re where we need to be. Just in time to close it all out.

Looking at Mattel objectively, not filtered through the lens of nostalgia, I’m not hopeful. I’m not sure what they have to offer. Cookie Cutter production isn’t my deal anymore.

I do hope that Mattel can surprise me. But I’m almost sure that they won’t.

For what it’s worth, I heard that Mattel did have an excellent presentation of their plans, not just a truck full of money. Someone really liked their pitch.
I don’t doubt you, and I certainly hope that it’s true. Even if I’m not buying anything, DC fans should have a robust line of products to purchase. It’s just that Mattel phoned it in for so long in my view. I just didn’t know it at the time.

Just reconfirmed this.
Source can’t say much, but reiterated that we would be wise to give Mattel a chance here.

I wanna see Mattel do a few base buck bodies, but done well. Perfect anatomy, detailed musculature, etc. Put in some excellent articulation. They have the blueprints already in Mafex. I doubt they would do import style joints but at least do the correct joints with the right range of motion. Good butterly joints, boot swivels, toe joints, double ball at the abs and ball jointed waist, etc. Actually sculpt the symbols in their chests, sculpt the gloves and boots on, etc. Give them excellent face sculpts and detailed face printing so the characters actually look good. Extra heads and hands are a must, and a few accessories as well.

It's really not hard to design a line that is good for both collectors and kids alike. With Mattel's budget, it should be easy to get the right people involved and make sure the main collector line is fantastic. If done right it will pay for itself in no time.

But I honestly have seen very little good Mattel products, ever. There's definitely been a few good lines, of course, but it's been few and far between. These need to be essential for every dc collector out there, these need to be so good that everybody wants them. Else it's just gonna be another Spin Master dc line for kids.

WWE.

If Mattel gives DC the full WWE treatment, we will want for nothing. WWE basically prints money. Set up DC in a parallel line, I might be in. Damn the demographics.

I'm gonna be honest, seeing pics online the WWE line doesn't look that good. There's some decent sculpting in some figures, but others have terrible proportions, and they don't have that much articulation. And ab crunches? Come on. The DC line needs to be far better than these WWE figures.
