McFarlane DC Multiverse

I got the bundle with the MTS10 coupon and whatever the cheap shipping was. It's cheaper than retail. I didn't need the Batman, but wanted the other three so I caved.

I forgot there was a variant in this wave.

Got the bundle at MTS. Dropped a $20.00 coupon on it with FedEx shipping. $92.37 total. About what I’d have paid at retail minus the hunt.

Batwing on Thursday. Hoping for Merlyn and Metron next week.

Batman has an all black variant. Not sure why it’s not being advertised. Might be one of those gold label red platinum variants that are exclusive and limited to a specific store.

I will say though that the blue and grey variant actually reminds me more of how Batman looked in the TMNT crossover movie so I might pair that with my Super7 2k3 figures

Just preordered Stephanie from BBTS - I have the Dicks I want already (yes this is on purpose) and was never a disco guy, and while I LIKE this Batman a lot, he doesn't trigger the must-have for a preorder. If he's not hard to get later I'm sure I'll pick him up but I can live without.

I wanted a blue/gray Batman with a fabric cape. Only reason I grabbed him.

I find myself checking CMD multiple times a day for what I’m sure will be the pain-in-the-@$$-of-the-year…Steve Trevor.

I hope Todd has time to get to the almost inevitable Blackhawk repaint before times up.

I looked through the Legendsverse archive to see what I still want that McDC has released. I count 8 that I'd buy given the chance and 6 of those are from the last 12 months. They've really ratcheted up the artificial scarcity crazy.

I try to give it some perspective. It’s been no more difficult for me than DCUC was WITHOUT the chases. That was miserable. We all seem to forget how scarce Mattel/DC figures became at the end.

Except for the Rainbow Deputy and Super Powers waves. Those were all over.

Yeah every toy line goes through this once it’s been deemed as no longer viable or the license is being handed off to someone else. The last few pieces become automatic grails since only a handful of stores will want to keep doing business with said company for those last 6-12 months that the brand is viable. I remember how hard it was to find DC direct figures in 2021 after everything was scuttled. And who knows if the folks who ordered those last few products from DST will see their orders fulfilled. There is just no way to plan ahead for this kind of catastrophic entropy once a line has kicked the bucket.

I missed Stephanie and that's ok. I can't plan my summer around preorders with minutes- long windows. Chance are she'll turn up.

No Man's Land looks cool, good colors, but at the same time he is just another Batman. Is this one on the Superman buck?

No this Batman is on the Knightfall body

DCUC was tough to find well before its demise. Online stores weren’t as prevalent and ebay and Amazon weren’t the powerhouses they are now.

I remember going into Toys R Us shortly after they opened. They were stocking the shelves that day. I didn’t know the schedule so I was lucky. Some guy was looking through the DC pegs. I looked down. On the floor was a full open case. It was the amazing Wildcat wave 9. Chemo was the builder. I snatched it off the floor and headed to checkout. Dude at the pegs never saw me. Never saw that wave in stores again.

I was ordering DCUC online from Wave 1, and a few waves in it was even easy to order a full set with the variant. Outside of the Walmart waves, and maybe some one-off exclusives, Mattel was a walk in the park compared to McFarlane. On the other hand, there are times when McFarlane is putting out 50% chases and there is no way you are getting them without paying significantly more through eBay or foreign retailers. Your mileage may (and clearly did) vary, but for me availability for McFarlane vs. Mattel is night and day.

I bought the vast majority of my DCUC collection at Wal Mart. I did have to go to the WalMart 13 miles away to get the Wildcat wave... but I never once had to resort to eBay for any DCUC figure.

Luckily with the exception of a couple of recent Red Platinums (Jade, Lion Head Supes) and the variant silver plat GL (arkiss, Green Man) the McF figures I tend to want aren't the uber popular ones... Monarch, Merlyn, Target Cyborg Superman... unfortunately I do think Obsidian will be as hard to track down as his sister.

DCUC was the first line I collected, so I still enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. It helped having two additional sources - TRU and K-Mart. In those days I wasn’t checking product inventory counts, so I didn’t have expectations as to what I might find.
