McFarlane DC Multiverse

I bought him. Basically out of FOMO. I’m not a huge fan of the character, as he seems to have leap frogged over Black Lightning in the minds of the public. I am a big fan of BL. But he fits into the Titans. So I need him for that. I’ve never read much Milestone. While the concepts are solid and the art is largely spectacular, they’ve as yet been unable to attract the A list comic writers to the line. Which is where I try to put my comic book money these days. And with so many stops and starts over the years, they almost need to do Absolute Milestone.

I bought him too. I prefer this costume to the first one they put out. The only problem is pre-Todd DC Direct did this costume and I think that was a better figure than this likely is.

McDuffie has passed away. Cowan is an artist. Which I acknowledged was great. Even so, I’m talking about people who can move the needle. Particularly on the world building side of things. Waid, Snyder, Johns, Williamson, Tom Taylor, etc. Dwayne never quite got there in his career. Christopher Priest is great, but last I heard, he had fallen out with the Milestone founders.

I would contend that McDuffie’s contributions to the DCAU, and the influence of said contributions on so very many modern comic-book media projects, moved the needle well beyond the medium of comic books themselves,
Like way way WAY more people have been exposed *directly* to his work than most more “famous in the industry” comic books creatives.

And I’d acknowledge that you’re correct. But I thought we were talking about published comics books. Animation is another platform entirely.

I do love me some JLU though.

There are persistent rumors of a Milestone revival coming up in 2026. All I’m saying is that it might be a good idea to front load some heavy hitter writers into the mix for the next iteration.

With Gold Label Static going up for preorder, we seem to be getting closer to the next Multiverse wave:

Superman/Authority
Ice
Larfleez
Rocket Red
90’s Wally/Flash

Red Platinums for Starman, Gangbuster, and Black Condor.

Hopefully this con in Brazil will provide some clarity.

My local Target has 40% off action figures (not everything). I got the Superman Movie 4 pack from Spin Masters for $26 & change & Mr. Miracle for $14.99. Since it was over $40 I got $10 off with a Target Circle bonus. I stopped at a Target on my way to work & they had Page Punchers Cheetah. She rang up $16 & change so I got her for a little over $17. I ordered Static from MTS & used $20 in rewards.

I have Jayna pre-ordered from amazon & found Cheetah & some other platinum figures. I feel like I can take a break from the hunt since there is nothing else coming out. The silence on figure releases is strange but nice at this time of the year. I found some stuff on Black Friday as well as ordering from Amazon, Big Bad Toy Store & Entertainment Earth. So I have a lot to open.

Far be it from me to critique how anyone spends their money, but something to consider - not supporting or trying out books by newer writers and artists trying to make their way is a sure fire way to make sure you run out of "A-List" writers and artists real fast. Before you know it, the same two guys are writing and drawing every book, which is not dissimilar to DC right now, and those newer creatives never get to become A-Listers because everyone spent their money on another run-of-the-mill Geoff Johns story.

Food for thought.

I can appreciate what you’re saying. But putting it into practice is a bit more difficult.

John Ridley comes to mind. A talented, accomplished man. An Oscar winning screenwriter. Doubtful Geoff Johns will ever have one of those. Yet I read every issue of the Jace Fox Batman series and I kept wondering when all that talent was gonna kick in. Johns rarely disappoints me. Pedestrian as he can be at times.

Wasn't expecting Nicholson Joker to be jacketed. I know the said the hat's removable. I'll be up camping the various sites the morning of it's release. Not too many others I'll do that for, but at least we're getting a comic Poison Ivy as well.

The upper body seems rather slight on him as well. His shoulders should slope less in a that jacket a I remember.
