McFarlane DC Multiverse

I still stand by what I said earlier about Mattel ultimately being screwed regardless of what scale they go with, but if they go 7”, they’re probably DOA. They have to appeal to the “Never McFarlane” contingent out of the gate and then work on winning over the McFarlane faithful (which I wouldn’t personally bet on happening).

I think Mattel’s best bet is to go with Marvel Legends scale. Making them basically compatible with G.I. Joe, MMPR, and Star Wars Black. So that Batman and Wolverine and Luke Skywalker and General Hawk and Red Ranger can all have a team up.

Sarcasm implied. It sounds so childish when I actually type it out.

Says the person on a forum where adults obsess about the size of their action figures. 😂. I’m good with childish when it is an healthy escape valve from the stresses of adult life.

It is 6” all the way for me.

Sorry man. Just the way I feel. I’ve never wanted to see the Enterprise take out the Deathstar. Nor do I see a connection between the Borg and the Cylons. In spite of my admiration for the work of Grant Morrison, I do not subscribe to the theory that all fiction is connected. I detest the Marvel/DC crossovers and couldn’t care less who the creators/characters involved are. And you’re right, it is a great escape hatch from reality.

But Batman doesn’t need to meet Dr. Doom. He’s already got plenty on his plate. 😊

I got the page punchers case from Entertainment Earth for the Crisis Joker/Superman. It unfortunately does have a case packout of 3X of each. Most of the rest of the EE cases have included platinums or red platinums. Means I have to be one of the fortunate few to get them while they're up on Walmart or Gamestop for the half-second they're randomly up on Friday at an unannounced time.

I won't miss this aspect of McFarlane having the license. I've not seen a single red platinum in store.

I understand both points about consistent scale across multiple lines, and likely many people don't care - especially if they only collect one line. I however am someone that would prefer all my Marvel, DC, Spawn, TMNT, GI Joe, Star Wars, Star Trek, Invincible, Scooby Doo, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Power Rangers, Fortnite, MOTU, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, WWE, AEW, etc figures were all the same scale. The biggest reason that I want this is kitbashing and customization work that I do a ton of. One standard size across lines makes that a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. I buy an absolute crap ton of product on deep clearance (thousands of dollars per year) beyond my normal collecting just for this purpose alone. I personally prefer 6" scale because 1" represent 1' of height, plain and simple --- and that's it's the primary scale that I've been collecting for 25ish years. If I had started with 7" figures then I might have preferred 7" figures today.

Got Guardian and Wonder Woman/Godzilla today. Love ’em both. Gonna try and sell/trade big G.
I received Guardian today as well and my first impression was "he's a little plain", but then I compared it to the Mattel one in my display which is even more plain and felt better about it. LOL! It's just a minimalist costume, of course.

I skipped Godzilla/WW after buying the Godzilla/Superman 2-pack and the Collectors Edition Wonder Woman. I'm actually into Godzilla and have the Mezco Ultimate version and a Kong that matches in size (both are btw 19-20" tall), but McF's attempts at the Monsterverse are quite lacking. I understand why they had to do the size that they did, but the articulation is SO BAD. I'm still happy to have Titano evem despite that though!

IMO, the David Vonner Batman figure is better than anything Mattel or McFarlane has released to date. That is to say, I’m still waiting on the definitive DC line, and could care less about scale as long as it’s a better product than what I have.

McFarlane figures are mostly the best versions of my DC characters, but they have a lot of flaws, weird proportions, etc. I’d much prefer to replace these instead of DCUC but will just have to see what Mattel releases.

All this talk of crossover got me remembering- when I was younger and we didn't have much money, the toys I got were all sorts of scales because we mostly got them from thrift stores or secondhand stores. So I had Happy Meal toys displayed with 4 inch, displayed with 12 inch, etc. And me being me, my reasoning for it was that everyone was different sizes in their respective universes. It made sense that the Scooby figures were like 3 inches shorter than Batman, because humans in Scooby's universe could very well have been like 4 feet on average, and it was all perspective. I think having to get creative as a kid has stuck with me, to a fault sometimes. 😅

Somewhat more on topic, I stumbled upon the Black Mask Batman wave today at Target. No Scarecrow though, of course (if he's even part of the wave). I was really tempted by Black Mask, but I literally stood in Target scouring the internet for more pics of him like that in the comics, and nothing came up. Did find one little blurb on Wikipedia, but like zero pictures, so I put him back. He looked cool, but I don't know if I can justify it for such a one-off appearance. I'd probably try and make a regular Black Mask out of it and fail spectacularly, so even more money wasted.

One of the first toy lines I remember having as a kid was Transformers...Blaster was almost 2 Optimus' tall if I recall, Rodimus Prime wasn't nearly as big as Galvatron, and the Dinobots were sort of small. Scale was not a consideration, but since I had an imagination none of it ever mattered. I never really thought much about it.

Fast forward to today, I'm 42 and I still don't care too much. The only reason I won't go in on Mattel if they switch to 6" is because I already have my favorite characters in McF 7" and I don't see a need to ditch them for something newer and shinier. Otherwise, it wouldn't really matter all that much to me, and if they put out unique stuff I'll take a look. My shelves look like collages, or as I like to usually say - movie posters. Find a poster for a blockbuster Avengers movie and you'll see really big photos of the actors in the center, and smaller pictures of others as you spread out from center. A lot of my shelves look like that. It actually makes it easier to see everything, instead of 4 rows deep of everybody being pretty much the same height I have a collage of figures posed up doing things.

Don't get me wrong, I have specific shelves for teams, too - and team displays need to match each other. But the majority of my stuff is all mixed. I have the new Neca Jaws shark chomping on a broken Clooney Batman, and this weekend I'm going to set up the Stump Wrestling TMNT so that they are waiting for their turn after the Superman/Ali fight in the ring. I used to be rigid with things, but once I loosened up and realized "they're toys, and meant for fun" it really made the displays come alive. I like to hide things in it for the kids to find, too, like putting Chucky and Tiffany in with Joker's crew, or hiding alien facehuggers among dio pieces to attack unsuspecting heroes.
