Mattel DC Figures

That might be the first time I've seen ball joints on ankles and wrists from an American company and not thought they looked gross.

Personally, I was completely content with what I assumed would just be standard Masterverse and WWE Elites applied to DC. If this is representative of what we're getting, holy hell. And if it is, I hope it lights a fire under Hasbro's ass to finally innovate on Legends engineering.

That Skeletor could make for a good body for a Kain custom...

Honestly, apart from the lack of toe joints and mafex-style butterfly shoulders, these MOTU figures look about as nice as I could expect from Mattel. The sculpts look detailed, proportions are good. Paint apps are basic but that's the standard these days. But look at all those import-style joints. Neck joint, butterflies, double elbows and knees, ballhinges on wrists and ankles, and what looks like balljoints at the abs and maybe at the waist.

This makes me very confident on what Mattel will do for the collector line. If they are as good as these they will already have surpassed marvel legends in design and engineering. Let's hope that they do the same for DC.

And wired cloth goods capes please. With nice spandex materials, not that cheap felt cloth or plastic cloth they used before.

Uh, guys? I'm starting to think it's more likely than not that Mattel's DC figures will be good. Help.

These look better than most Marvel Legends. Double-jointed elbows & knees, ball-jointed wrists & ankles, butterfly joints, and diaphragm joints? Heaven help me.

I need you MOTU fans to buy the hell out of these so they don't wind up thinking articulation is bad for sales.

Well, I can certainly admit when I am wrong 👏 I still don't think Man-At-Arms or Evil Lyn look very good (talking faces here, not bodies) but the rest are looking very nice...and this is why I said I wasn't judging but was worried. It looks like I can forget the worry part, because these look really good to me.

If Mattel's DC figures end up looking like that, I'd be happy. I hope it's not too much to ask that they feel good, too; my previous experience with Mattel's Multiverse and WWE stuff felt very light and hollow in the way an ML doesn't, with some exceptions.

My biggest curiosity right now is if their shoulders have the randy to properly lay their arms flat at their sides. The shoulders on these LOOK great, but I need to see that range from them. It's another of my many complaints with domestic figures.

I’m genuinely curious/confused about something. Any insight is appreciated. And I’m not reading anything into this. I just think it’s odd.

In 2019, when we heard Todd had taken over the DC license along with Spin Masters, they didn’t or weren’t allowed to start their marketing campaigns or show any product. Then early on New Year’s Day 2020, pictures of Todd’s first wave of figures started showing up on the internet. Fast forward to late last month and Mattel leaks their first wave lineup. Yesterday, it seems the marketing campaign has begun in earnest. Five months ahead of an official release date.

So why the double standard? No one can step on Mattel, but Mattel can step on anyone. I don’t get it. Thanks.
I don't think there's any double standard going on. They did agree to the deal about a year ago so everyone has had time to prepare in their own way. And these aren't leaks, they're from an overseas toy fair.

The figure looks like Brie straight on, but the first profile shot was unkind.
I think it's fairly common with toys in general (with real person likenesses, that is) to nail the likeness from one angle, and look nothing like them from another. Just the nature of translating a real 'moving' face into a small piece of plastic.

Been learning 3D art myself recently, it's insanely hard to really get any likeness spot on in a 3D model, both live action and drawn. One angle is easy, a second is a little harder, but the moment it leaves that orthographic view? Oh god. Absolute hellscape. Please save me.

Yeah, seeing that does help. Her likeness is definitely there. Just not seeing her hair due to Evil Lyn's head dress makes it feel super weird. But seeing that pic of her near that pic of the figure, you can see it.

I really think these MOTU Movie toys look good. I'm impressed even. Granted, I love toys and it's really hard for me to get upset or not enjoy any toy, but I did not expect these to look this good. And if the DC Adult collector figures are to that level, I am fuuuuuuuuuucked. I told myself I wasn't buying the MOTU Movie toys, due to all the other, non-movie MOTU stuff I have, buy, and collect. And I told myself after McFarlane, the same thing applied to DC.

Well, I'm buying these MOTU Movie toys, so.......I sense a pattern emerging.

This films' Evil-Lyn helm/crown seems very reminiscent of the Sorceress's headpiece from the original Dolph Lundgren MOTU film the more that I look at it.

I think it would have looked better if they went more in the direction of Aliyah's "Queen of the Damned" headpiece rather than something that covers so much of her forehead, as it reminds me a lot of the monster from Jeepers Creepers also.
