I'm torn about that because like.. I REALLY want a good Warlord figure, but I also probably would have thrown it in the trash by now if it had actually come out in DCUC. I didn't have a ton of luck with that line (wilting plastic, failing knees, plastic slowly discoloring, etc). But man.. it would have been cool to have him even just for a little while.Warlord was actually slated for DCUC before the plug was pulled. Neitlich showed what the next few retail wave lineups were slated to be before the plug was pulled on one of his Spector Creative You Tube videos.
This probably won't fit your definition of a "good" Warlord figure, but I've still got the 2007 DC Direct First Appearance version in my display until someone makes a better one:I REALLY want a good Warlord figure, but I also probably would have thrown it in the trash by now if it had actually come out in DCUC.
I hummed and hawed over that figure more than once, to be honest. But at this point, yeah, I don't think I'd be happy with it.This probably won't fit your definition of a "good" Warlord figure, but I've still got the 2007 DC Direct First Appearance version in my display until someone makes a better one:
That’s the kind of thing I’d punch a baby for in an updated line. Especially Hercules Unbound. One of my favorite godawful 70’s series that makes you wonder what indeed were they smoking? You guys don't have the original Warlord line?
I think the problem is that no one is ever going to really be happy. Even if Mattel comes out of the gate with a deep cut in wave 1, it'll be the -wrong- deep cut for half of the customer base. You can signal to the fans that you are willing to do the deep cuts and expanded roster figures all you want - but that doesn't mean you'll ever get to the ones any one particular fan wants to see. In which case... who cares. Making some random bullshit whocares character from the lame-ass teenagers from the future doesn't fill me with confidence that we're going to get Viking Prince. So the only people (person?) that will care is the one that actually wants that specific deep cut character.Warlord would be a great "deep cut" to get in a collector line. I'd love it if Mattel came out guns a blazin' and did a character like that in the early waves.
In another world, Warlord isn’t really a deep cut. Warlord has had his own self titled book four times over the years for a total of 172 issues. Today’s writers may not have a good read on him, but GoT, Witcher, and LotR should carve out some space for him for a mini series once in a while. Amethyst is another good one suffering from the “we don’t know what to do with her” syndrome.Warlord would be a great "deep cut" to get in a collector line.
