Masters of the Universe X Thundercats

Wave 1 should be arriving from BBTS on Monday and I just saw Wave 2 is available on EE so I'm betting I'll be getting arrival notices on the second wave riiiiight around the time I'm unboxing Wave 1. Kinda hilarious. But really with any Thundercats product I'm mostly anxious to have Lion-o, Cheetarah, Tigra, and Panthro in hand and everything else can wait, so having the two waves ship back to back actually isn't a complaint for me. Aside from the fact that my POL got loaded up enough to ship twice in four weeks so... oops.

I was very tempted to order from EE’s in stock wave 2 but I restrained myself. I’ll wait at least til BBTS gets theirs in or I find them at retail.

I got Battle Cat Man from Amazon yesterday and opened him up today. I like him quite a bit, but I stripped him of all his armor for now.

My Animal Warriors of the Kingdom figures are in storage at the moment, but I think he'll fit in well there with the stylized look they both have.

Amazon Canada got these in and I immediately ordered Lion-O because I can't help myself.

Okay, I got the first three figures and these are just FUN. I mean if we only get 3-4 waves that'll be plenty, but they're just super fun little toys. I love 'em.

Got Lion-O in today and I would love him way more if his right leg weren't so fucking loose that it's basically a broken figure. If you give him a shake, the leg wobbles around like a Super7 figure. Absolutely terrible. I can probably fix it, but I'm not going to right now so right now I'm less than enthusiastic.
IF the leg wasn't a problem, I'd be very happy with this figure. Looks great. Probably poses great if his leg works. Part of me almost feels guilty about how much STUFF I just ripped off him and tossed in a pile to probably never be seen again. And another part of me is kind of MIFFED that I paid for all these parts that I did not want or need. But here we are. I've got possible the best Lion-O figure ever made so far. Which is actually very sad now that I'm saying it.

Second wave landed so soon I haven't had time to open the first, but I hit ship on my POL so I can open all six figures at once. Feels more fun that way anyway.

Finally. My preorder of wave one is finally in and I can go pick them up. Can't wait I am excited to get them in hand and see how they are in person.

Received my wave two via EE today. They do not disappoint, I might even like them better than wave one.

First opened was Tygra. He wears green translucent armor (that hopefully is explained in the comic I haven't read yet). The mask is reminiscent of both Boba Fett's helmet due to the eye cut out, and Grune, for some reason, maybe the large canine teeth? The chest armor is asymmetrical with one big spiked right shoulder pad, and a spiked left strap, this time reminiscent of Panthro's harness. He has armor for both thighs, a fur loincloth with a gold belt, gold bracers, fur boots swappable with his standard boots, and his signature bolo whip with a real rope, but plastic sculpted bolo.

Tygra's paints are kinda sloppy, specifically the light beige pretty much wherever it shows up - the face, his feet. He has a grin that looks like teeth should show, but it's not painted white, just the same beige. That wasn't impressive. His orange fur also seems light, and his leotard over his torso is gray, which also looks inaccurate to me. Should be more of an aqua color. He has removable wraps just below the elbows, the right one of which is an elbow pad. Maybe I'll give him another look with the armor, but as a standard Thundercat, he misses the mark.

Panthro is on the larger Battle Cat-Man body, so he stands taller than the others, just slightly. I always pictured Panthro as just slightly shorter than the other male adult TCats. He wears armor evoking Man-At-Arms' details. An abridged version of the vented armor at the top of his chest, the asymmetrical armor on his left arm and right shin. He has a spiked bracer on his right arm and a belt with a sculpted cloth loincloth. The left arm armor has a large peg at the end for two swappable weapons, a chained mace, and an axe, calling back to the Roboto/Trap Jaw gimmick. He came wearing his standard boots, but packed behind him was the fur trim boots. They look identical to Tygra's, but the fur on Tygra's comes to a peak, and Panthro's are even around the boot top. This corresponds with the fur boots that came with Lion-O and BCM. Panthro also comes with his signature nunchucks with a plastic chain.

Of all the Thunderan armor gimmicks, Panthro's is the best. It more overtly pays homage to a MotU character, but is also functional and more fun as a result. This is one I'm tempted to get a second copy just to display with the armor.

He-Man is a nice variation. He comes with his standard armor and Thunderan cat-themed armor as well. The latter can fit over the former. He comes with a generic looking round shield with large teeth sticking out of one edge, removable brown wraps for his right bicep and thigh, and an amalgamation of the power sword and Eye of Thundera (which is closed on one side and open on the other). He has his hair tied back, and so loses his signature bangs (which I don't mind at all) but also, he looks more like a generic barbarian when his standard armor is covered by the cat-themed armor.

He, BCM, and Skel-Ra will exist as is. But the Thundercats will don their classic looks. I could totally consider this a complete collection, having the core TCats and Mumm-Ra, but now having them all, I want them to explore more of these characters! Maybe the other adult TCats Pumyra, Lynx-O and Bengali? How would they handle the Mutants? The card art shows amalgams of Panthor (like BCM) and Tri-Klops with a more triangular eye fixture. Would they handle some of the evil warriors? If they never do, I would still be VERY satisfied with the collection as is. Total win in my book to have these properties smushed together.

Cracked the first two waves open tonight. These are REALLY fun. I actually like the Eternian armor on most of them but the green translucent stuff on Tigra was so... tacky? I mean literally tacky, like sticky / gummy, so I swapped it out for his normal look. His elbow armor also got in the way of his elbows bending, too. Overall I love the base figure UNDERNEATH the armor but not the overlays. Which is funny cos I actually really like everyone else's armor. Though I'm kinda curious about if Cheetarah would be more poseable without her breastplate armor. Lion-O looks great, He-Man is cool, and I think Pathro's a little busy but that's not a terrible thing. And I fricken LOVE Battle Cat. Like, no notes, he's amazing. (Okay one note- What are the pegs on his back for?)

Anyway. I don't need a ton more of these but I'd pick up a few more core folks. I don't need them to go as deep into it as like, the TMNT of Grayskull gang though, I felt overwhelmed by them.

Now I have wave one in hand and damn they are as good as I had hoped. Skell-Ra is my favourite followed by Battle Cat Man and then Lion-O with Cheetara bringing up the rear. Though that isn't a slight because they are all great in my opinion.

Now I'll have to pick up wave two for sure.

Received wave 2. Haven't opened He-Man. I wasn't feeling a need for him, but I decided "why not?" and got him too. Love having the 4 main Thundercats in this scale and style. My only real gripes are the lack of a nice claw shield for Lion-O and Cheetara not having a gripping left hand, which would allow for her to hold her staff with 2 hands. While open hands are expressive, a gripping left hand for her would be so much more useful. Oh, and Battle Cat Man really doesn't hold his weapons securely.

I don't need a ton more from this crossover line, but the Mutants are a must. The cat twins and Snarf would be cool too. I just don't see this line going past wave 3, since that line is just repaints which doesn't give one much faith in more product.
