Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

You can't fuck around and find out with Masterverse anymore apparently. Preorder or pay the price later like I did with BA Skeletor.

Yeah, Masterverse isn't playing. You don't just debate about pre ordering Masterverse figures than give up. You get your ass out there and you pre order those f****** figures!

Much rather sit on a Snout Spout or Vykron than pay what I did for Battle Armor Skeletor. I didn't get Vykron though. I've got him in MOTUC in all 3 looks and didn't really feel a strong need to get him again in Masterverse.

It is kind of mysterious to understand how a figure becomes rare or sought after. Most of Masterverse is pretty easily accessible and even cheap on secondary. But not Webstor. Not Battler Armor Skeletor. Not movie Beast Man. What happened there? Actual demand? Low supply? Both? I do know that both Webstor and BA Skeletor are among the most awesome figures in the line. Their popularity and redesigns do make them unique and interesting to look at and handle. But I wouldn't say that other figures aren't at that level.

Knowing Mattel, it's just a distribution problem and there's like 1,000 movie Beast Man figures rotting on the pegs of a single store in East Bumfuck Nowhere, Montana. Some industry insiders, particularly with Mattel, have mentioned before that a lot of rarity and supply issues are just actually distribution issues in disguise. Same production numbers, same overall demand, but way too much product ends up where it doesn't need to go.

Like some of the Origins Deluxe figures that rotted on pegs in the US but Canada didn't get them at all. Super high demand up here because there aren't any, but they're basically on clearance in the States at the same time.

Mattel has always had screwy distribution and my biggest reservation in overpaying for BA Skeletor was that there were probably cases of that wave languishing in a warehouse somewhere. It was just too weird how short that one seemed to be stocked.

This seems like such a fixable issue too. Like literally just leaving money on the table.

I remember seeing the same 4 Andra and fisto figures sitting on the pegs at my local target for 18 months

Still upset about Webstor... :cautious:
Webstor is pretty cool. And he has a lot of unique items and pieces that probably never get used again…. Just make more him imo, or do a new version that is just slightly different, whatever

Edit: my big misses with the line were the movie beast man and o guess blade. But I also don’t really care much about those personally

Yeah. It's a combination of two (or more, depending on how you want to break it down) issues; Mattel, and occasionally other toy companies, just have the worst fucking distribution and don't seem inclined to fix it or to even explain the potential issues properly to their retail partners so they can fix it on their end.

And also.. there's no incentive for removing old toys from the shelves, which literally stop new toys from being stocked. Probably too much to expect Mattel to offer any kind of buy-back program for stuff that doesn't sell, but they should be working with retailers to drastically limit the amount of unsold product, move it around as necessary, and even encourage discounts and clearance FAR earlier than we usually see to keep product moving.

So tired of massive corporations like Mattel and Hasbro acting like they have no sway at all in what Walmart and Target do. They absolutely do.
