Marvel Legends Maximum Series

Maximum Spider-Man looks like a figure Legends collectors will be happy to own, it just sucks that it's so overpriced. Hulk, on the other hand, strikes me as a perplexing offering. He features a lot of reuse and it seems like the main selling point is he can clap now. Granted, I am not much of a Hulk fan so maybe I'm underselling the importance of this function, but I just don't see much value in that one. I wonder if this is some sort of Maximum Sandwich Strategy where they lead-off with an all new figure of a popular character, follow it up with a more expensive but less impressive release, then try and blow everyone away with whatever comes next? Deadpool seems like the frontrunner since he's a ninja and would benefit from added articulation, come come with lots of hands, weapons, and even multiple heads. If they want to paint most of the costume details too then he could be reused as a base for several characters going forward too. I'm probably content with the Deadpool figures I already own, but if they did a Maximum Iceman...
I think a key part of Deadpool would be sculpted details rather than paint for seam lines and contrasting colors. They could do wrinkles I guess then just skip seam lines to give us a new sculpt, but also reusable. If it's reused like Hulk but with tons of weapons then it's a very easy pass. Hard pass. I am expecting a redo of the 2016 Juggernaut one with tons of gear and a new sculpt. I would go for a 90s one as well. I doubt they could do an all-in-one version to make your own era Deadpool with loads of pouches and such, but we'll see. He might end up being the best of the 3 building to next year.

Thor should be done sooner than later. Coipel is due for an update and the amount of lighting effects would be wicked cool

I wouldn't be surprised to see Coipel Thor as a Maximum release. It would be controversial, and I don't know if enough people want him over classic Thor for it to make sense, but I could see it. They obviously need to go all out on the brand new sculpt, articulation, and accessories, but the thing that will really sell it as a Max figure (for me) is a wired cloth cape. I know it's not everyone's thing, but 1) they're amazing and those people are wrong and 2) I'd pay at least $20 for a 3rd-party one anyway, so the price would easily be justified in my mind.

I fucking hate myself for how fast I would slap down the ridiculous amount of money they want to get this.

I'm not deluding myself into thinking this is what we'll *actually* get, but a brand new dedicated sculpt, cloth wired cape, and slew of accessories (2-3 heads, buncha hands, lightning effects) would easily be worth the price they've been charging.

I'm going further into dreamland here, but I'd love to see an "in flight" headsculpt, with the hair pushed back behind the helmet for flying poses. There's really no long haired Thor figure that can pull off that pose.

@hmmberto Yeah, I'd love to see something like they did with the 12" Thor from a decade ago or whatever it was and have different heads with swappable hair/helmet options. That would be so cool. That figure in general re-done in 6" would also be amazing. The only reason I ever got rid of it was that I don't really collect 12" figures and the ankles were starting to get just easy enough to move that I was getting nervous it would fall.

I don't buy a lot of Legends, but your desires for a windswept hair option with Thor shines a light on the fact that none of my Legends have optional hair parts. I'm guessing there must be some out there that I just personally don't have. Hasbro did it with their Drizzt figure and it's a smart idea. It looks good, and he gets dynamic hair and more static hair. I'm surprised they don't do it more. I guess the cynic would say it's so they can just sell you a new version of the same figure down the road

I've gotta say, I've had Spidey for around a week now, and he's still fun as hell to pose and play with. I still think the value is around $40 for it all, but damn, if there's not a slew of options to get any look you want. I don't regret the purchase at all.

I'm right there with you. He's a daily driver on my desk

Hey, @raybot! I tried messaging all of my IG mutuals about this place but I think IG marked my messages as spam and never sent them. In any case, I'm glad you found your way here.

Now where's that customs thread?
I probably just missed the invite since I haven’t been on IG in forever. Thx tho! Thought I was getting a start back on customs when I made that IG, but I got a great deal on a house like 2 months after my kid was born and it’d be a miracle if I could find my supplies. Been two years and most of the swallowable toys, stabby things, and fun chemical supplies are still boxed up in the ADU.

Feels like every time I get parts ready for a project Hasbro’s suddenly showing a prototype for it lol. Does seem like maybe that new Hulk’s screaming for new heads though…

Got to open my Max Spidey. Not much more to say about him. I like it, he poses really well. Feels a little too rubbery right now. One thing I don’t understand is why his toes are hollow. Doesn’t look great. I don’t mind the unmasked head, but the non-gloves hands look oversized to me. I love the Spidey sense effect. The webs are fine, but they didn’t do the figure in package any favors by having those webs against an insert that’s pretty much the same color. Makes the package look empty. Well, off to a ziplock bag those accessories will go. This is a quintessential ‘90s Spidey if I ever did see one.
I second all of this, except for the Spidey-sense - I think there's too much plastic around the painted parts and it looks like he's wearing a Statue of Liberty crown. I think it's how it snaps onto his head that kills it, I think it needed to attach in the back, like the Can of Beams version.

The hollow toes are definitely weird because they are visible - like, why? I like the webshooting hands, but they are oversized and the hands shooting webs I had trouble finding a pose I liked - but I also gave up pretty quickly. And yes - a gray background in the box was definitely an odd choice for gray accessories.

Mine's up on Ebay.

I open all my toys, so I am not a MOC or MIB kind of guy. But I saw a picture (I think Dan from the Marvel Legends team posted it, teasing there was still one more Maximum this year) of Maximum Spidey and Maximum Hulk in their boxes, and these Maximum figures look great MIB.

Especially together. The different colors for each character, with the big window front and the Maximum logo. I feel like once there are a few of these they would really look incredible on a shelf side by side. It actually made me think of keeping the packaging.

I think the fact that it's only April and only 1 more Maximum figure will be shown this year is Hasbro course correcting. I think they thought they could get away with more "Hulk" type figures, meaning some new parts on more figures with more accessories added. The undeniable backlash on all the Hulk re-use parts and him not selling out everywhere right away has them going back to the Spidey model so they have to get an all-new sculpt prepared for whoever is next.

Ehh, I doubt it. These have probably been in the works for over a year so whatever is planned for 2025 was set in stone before 2024 even began. They had plenty of excuses to be cautious with the roll-out of this line so having 3 for this year strikes me as believable. And they can announce the next batch at PulseCon if they so desire.

I think Hulk got reuse so they could offer him at $60 rather than Dragon-Man prices. He's a good figure, just disappointing. I expect Deadpool to be like Spider-man, maybe 90s to boot. These were planned a while ago and I imagine 2026 is largely set.
