Marvel Legends Gamerverse

This toy drop is a nightmare and it isn't even happened yet. The base Captain America and Wolverine figures look great. Long-anticipated color schemes for MvC fans, on the current best bucks for two characters.

But the comments on social media for these things are beyond annoying.

They've taken designs I've wanted for over 20 years (hundreds of hours in MvC and green Cap was a staple for me), shoehorned some bullshit branding into them, and now the toy community eats itself alive.

The price and availability are going to be dealbreakers for me. I've already accepted it. But holy hell, I'm just reminded why I can't stand dealing with most toy communities. Too many people just being assholes to eachother because of some self-centered arrogance that makes them think "my plastic is worthwhile and yours is not".

My brain does not compute spending large amounts of money on utilitarian items (clothes, cars, food). Somehow I do compute blowing a shitload of money on non-functional things. Want to spend millions on a painting? Knock yourself out. Want to spend so much on shoes that you can't wear them? 🤯. Toys aren't functional, but somehow fall into that category for me. If there's a $25 Cap and a $150 Cap, I'm happy with the $25 Cap.

Long winded story alert..

Way back when, I’d put superheroes behind me with the rest of ‘kid stuff’. Left school, did Uni, got a job. Then I saw a listing in a Playstation magazine for the port of Marvel Super Heroes and, being a Street Fighter fan, thought it looked fun. I played the hell out of that game and it got me back into Marvel in a big way (though green as I was, it took me a while to realise characters like Shuma Gorath were not actually big hitters of the MU).

Then came the X-Men and Spider-Man films, and then the MCU and a chance pick-up of ML1 Iron Man sent me down a collecting rabbithole that has left me thousands of pounds poorer but with a killer collection.

I never thought I’d to this point, but with this week’s delivery of Shuma Gargantorath, I finally have a complete official Legends roster from Marvel Super Heroes, bosses and all, and it feels good. (I could still go for lighter colours on Doom and Spidey, but give it time).

I modded Max Hulk to be my Capcom version a while back (gave him the floppy fringe). I also modded Juggernaut’s power effect to sit on his helmet (dremeled out the inner clamp, and attached a little plastic hook on the back that catches the helmet rim). Doubt I’ll display it much though, as poor old Juggs is never going to get low enough to actually ram someone…

Kith really came out of nowhere, it seems. i'd never heard of them before, but then I started seeing a ton of ads for them around here in NY. Far as I can tell, it's a clothing store that also apparently has a giant cereal soft serve thing inside it? I can't take the name seriously; all I can hear is Mike Tyson saying "Gimme a Kith"

But yeah....those figs ain't for me. Happy for whoever digs 'em, but Imma pass.

I love this! It really is something when you're finally able to assemble a group that you have a special attachment to.

Hypothetically, if these are some ridiculous price, and they sell out because of the KITH beastcore hype... maybe that becomes a business case to produce more player color variants? But regular MSRP because it doesn't have a brand name slapped on it.

That... would be a win, in the end?
