Marvel Legends Gamerverse

Ah, the best laid plans of mice and senior management. “We’ll get store exclusive collectors items, they will be part of out summer planogram, we’ll have a street date so that we can have them on hand in every Target store across the nation, and on that street date, we will roll out our brand new planogram with our brand new store exclusive collector items, and the .0000001% of our potential customer base that gives a **** will flock to our stores, joyfully pull their items off the shelf, and be in such a state of euphoria that they will spend $200 on back to school clothing and supplies…even if they don’t have school age children.”

This Psylocke figure...she's alright, maybe a little over hyped.
I think the general lack of availability/FOMO contributes to that a bit. I also think it benefits by comparison to the average ML female figure. It’s a good figure that I’m happy to have in my collection, but it hasn’t made my Revoltech or Mafex Psylockes expendable.

I've now called ten of twelve Targets in my region and they're ALL pending a reset. They also all are showing 4 on hand so nobody has been able to buy any near me yet. What surprised me the most this time is that 9 of the 10 people I talked to all knew exactly what a reset was and that they hadn't done one yet. Usually only half understand that or how to determine it from their internal software, but this time all but one knew about them. And I was able to ask the one person enough specific questions about what their system was showing to tell me they haven't done a reset either. One of the people I talked to said that their reset was supposed to happen a week or two ago, but that Corporate was having some issue that delayed them from doing it. If they're right then that explains why none of my Targets have done a reset yet when usually it's a huge mix and some have finished it and some haven't.

All of my past experience tells me I should be able to relatively easily pick this set up later this week using the methods I just used and have used for years. I bet it also pops for sale on the web site at some point over the next week or two.

Yea, I'm not sure she's much better than either Warbird last year or Black Widow the year before aside from those cool Psi Maelstrom effects (that's the name of the move in the game they come from show below) she comes with, but if you're both a Jim Lee Psylocke fan and a fan of the Capcom homage to his art then you get it.

Hard for me to imagine she won't be #1 or #2 on my personal list of best Legends this year along with Maximum Spidey, and I bet she also makes my objective list of the top 10 figures as well but we'll see.. I really didn't expect them to try to mimic that really thicc art style Capcom used, but wow, they went for it.

I'm thinking of letting my loose set go.

It's fine as a set. I just...have no space or use for them. Especially having them in hand and realizing they're more *inspired* by the Capcom sprites, rather than *based* on them, if that makes sense.

If they were sculpted to look like the Storm Arena Street Fighter Alpha line, I'd be all over them. But they're just Marvel Legends done up sorta like Capcom designs. No thanks.

That’s always my frustration with Legends. Rarely does a figure outright try to recreate an art style in plastic form. Most are just lightly inspired by a source and everything is meant to skew towards a central, Legends aesthetic. The Wolverine figure from this line is a bit of an exception, but that’s probably because they’ve done 100 Wolverine figures. The collector who wants a proper Legends tiger stripe Logan has already been fed so they can go a little nuts with the Gamerverse sculpt. A Jim Lee Psylocke probably isn’t getting a new sculpt anytime soon so this one has to be more of a general release with a wink and a nod at the games.

I might consider using the Gamerverse Wolverine as my primary 90’s Wolverine since he meets the aesthetic of what I think of when it comes to that character. When I think of the iconography of Wolverine from the 90’s, the first 3 artists that pop into my head are Adam Kubert, Bengus and Bart Sears. Honorable mention go to the Hildebrandt brothers, Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Mark Silvestri and Joe Jusko. But yeah I love a Wolverine with the long tipped fins on the mask and boots, the huge stocky build, the wild hair and even the bone claws. The Gamerverse version meets that criteria far better than the other legends Wolverine figures we’ve had. Hell if anything the other legends Wolverines make the tiger stripe costume look so tame, it might as well be from the giant sized X-men era

Well, the one Target I was hoping was gonna be "easier" because the employees aren't as bright, no offense to them, said they're online only and not in the store at all. I know that's not right. Sometimes, that target is great. Others, it's not so great, lol.

The other one I called said they do have them in the back, but as has been mentioned, they're waiting for a reset. Now he did say if they were easy to find, he'd pull it for me. But since they hadn't done it yet, there are mountains of toys back there, and finding them could take hours. And he couldn't do that, he's's got other stuff to do. He did give me a nice low down of the reset there, though. He told me one person does the reset, and she's there from 3 am to 12 pm. And she's off Thursday, and it's supposed to be done by Friday. So a good chance it'll be tomorrow or Wednesday, and I'm going that way Wednesday anyway. Also told me to try and call tomorrow and ask if its been done yet, and if it has, they should be on the shelf unless someone else beats me to them. He was really nice and knew what he was talking about. Also, he worked in toys. Customer service didn't pick up. Also, he asked me for the DPCI, not the TCIN. I thought that was odd, cause I thought they didn't use the DPCIs as much anymore.

About the only negative critique I have of Psylocke so far is that the flesh paint coverage could be better on the molded blue upper and lower torsos. It’s not egregious and doesn’t ruin what is otherwise a very good figure or anything like that, but I wouldn’t call it a nitpick either. The mold lines can be an issue there as well as it is on the right shoulder on my Psylocke.

TCIN stands for "Target.Com Item Number" and it's the identifier they use for the public web site. I have never talked with a Target employee who had any idea what a TCIN is. DPCI is all they've ever used for the internal inventory tracking. They should really resolve that conflict and just go to a single item number, but I see no evidence it's happening.

You used to be able to use either DPCI or TCIN in Popfindr because Target's public interface supported both, but all it supports since a few years ago is TCIN. So really the discrepancy is getting worse, not better.

So I wasn't planning on getting Psylocke/Thanos as Thanos felt like a tax. Went to Target today and had to look to see if the set was in, because... well, because. There were 2 sitting there and I grab one and Thanos actually caught my eye first due to his size. That face sculpt and print tech pulled me right in. So did his colors. Then on to Betsy, and she looks incredible. I really like her thicker thighs. That fits her from the Jim Lee era.

Needless to say, I bought a set. For a second, I considered getting the 2nd for an Elektra custom, but honestly, I'm happy with the ones I have. Especially the white outfit one. And I don't see Elektra as that thick.

My one nit is they didn't include a Thanos head without the point on it. May trim these down.

Since I got to San Diego early I hit up a couple of Targets here... but no Marvel Legends at all except Miles and Iron Man from the mini-comic wave, movie Electro and half Price Professor X.... must be awaiting reset.

I was kinda hoping for a cheap Professor X, but they were all gone.
