Marvel Legends Gamerverse

I agree, but not so much humble as appreciative of what many of us have. As for influencers, its just another name for stars or celebrities which people have followed for generations and given way too much attention to.
Way too much.

Every generation is going to have people actually trampling each other to death for a Beatles or Tay Tay. A large subset need that sort of worship. A positive for society? I'll let the scholars decide

Valid point, and definitely means you're part of a privileged group. Especially, again, if doing so doesn't put you in some financial peril.

Now... if every person I met and all of my buddies I brought into my basement like, "you see all of these Legends? Yeah... thousands. Way more Legends than you. I bet you wish you had so many Legends. I'm better than you *deep and unflinching eye contact*" that would probably be... not the best reason to have them. Now, in reality, my collection has gotten to the point of mild embarrassment and, believe me, none of my friends consider it a positive social thing lol at all. So, to have a Legend people would covet in that way is kinda funny.
Agree 100%. I feel some embarrassment about my collection as well, and honestly I don't really show it off at all (I used to have a few shelves of toys in my office which amused some, confused others).

There are different sociocultural contexts to the concept of humility though, especially humility as virtuous behavior.
Perhaps I should amend to “all the more reason not to show a *conspicuous lack* of humility and make no attempt to demonstrate ‘I’m better than you’.”

Also: there’s sociocultural context to *everything*, but context does not directly translate to “this is OK, from a certain point of view”. There is sociocultural context to some kids getting hit by their parents, and I’m going to report them to CPS regardless.

Yep. When I used to be a cubicle dweller I was the guy with the McFarlane Hockey collection on my shelves, and then just random action figures and Blue Jays bobble heads everywhere in my space. I'm sure some people found it somewhat entertaining, but I have no doubt it was also career limiting lol

Now I work from home 99% of the time so technically I have a shitload of toys at my office but... no one sees

that is a bit of an extreme comparison lol

Honestly, even on this BOARD I feel some shame about my collection because I know I'm in a really good spot - I'm not rich but no kids, no student loans, multiple sources of income (not everyone can do a day job and have a side gig with the flexibility I have), partner makes enough money that if I got hit by a bus tomorrow she could live on her own without me just fine, low mortgage (at least in comparison to what folks are getting into now)... so if there's a figure I'm kinda interested in but I'm worried might sell out later, I can get it and not worry about it, or I can back a Haslab every other year, and I don't have to play clearance chicken. I also know that almost any of us are one bad year away from being homeless so I feel like an asshole just mentioning I, y'know, overpaid for some of the MTG Spidey figures.

On the branding thing though, something I'm curious about - if they had been available, I WAS curious about the Marvel figures because the logo was on the ACCESSORIES and thus could be set aside, but poor Ryu and Mega-Man have the logo slapped on them like a NASCAR driver. I wonder if the partnership deals were significantly different. I love Jada and think their Ryu and Mega-Man figures are top tier but I had ZERO interest in them because of the logo placement. That part makes me really curious about the paperwork side of things. (It would have been HILARIOUS if Ryu's HADOKEN energy ball was the logo instead.)

Omg thats bragging, its you, you're the problem! Jk jk jk

From what we know, Marvel is incredibly strict about their merchandise which has impacted Legends pricing, marketing and character selection/availability. On the subject of the internal Slack conversations, I'm willing to bet the Marvel feedback on where the KITH branding would be was a point of hot contention. I'd bet Dan worked his ass off to make this work at all, and made a ton of concessions.

But you know what I love most about this release? It sort of unofficially but officially confirms that the Jada Street Fighter line (which is the current SF line I chose to collect) is the sibling line of Legends. And I like that.

How so?
Some behaviors are negative regardless of context.
You're comparing a cultural affinity with wearing flashy clothing for the sake of status with child abuse. Now, and, im just trying to make sure we're all approaching this from the right direction here, a portion of this culture we're talking about here is racially tied. Not meaning to speak for CTV on this, and i may be 100% wrong here, but the judgement of and comparison of it to child abuse could be seen as a judgment of and criticism of African American culture.

I'm not saying this to like poorly characterize you of whatever, I don't think you mean it that way at all... truly... your whole thing is anti capitalism and fascism and all that. Separate. I just feel like there may be an unintended undertone you dont mean at all in this.

The problem is doing it for “clout”, for the “look at me I have a desirable thing [and you don’t]”. Or trying to “influence” or “create popularity”.

So, the toy collecting thing like this I am with you on is the people who get mad when a 'rare' figure gets reissued. Those people are ridiculous.

Like getting pissed off if they re-issued the Savage Land set. I lucked out, but id want anyone who really wanted it to at least have a chance.

Basically, and I do think it's completely unintended. My goal is to introduce the perspective that when you come from a group that was imported into existence for the specific purpose of being an underclass/servant class and perpetually made to fight against the government and broader society for human rights + to escape forced poverty, things like "wearing flashy clothing" and "flexing" have different connotations because they are symbolically tied to aspiration of a different kind. Because you're experiencing something inspired by these ideas but filtered through a corporate lens and re-sold to other demographics, by other demographics, there's an uncomfortable conflation happening even though I think there's much to dislike about Kith specifically, even as someone who owns that shirt.

As a casual toy buyer, the ML team trying to get a KITH collab is about as out-of-touch and "cringe" as Todd making NFT figures.

But here's why I personally find this annoying: These figures are supposed to be about celebrating MvC series, NOT celebrating hypebeast culture. So no, I'm not going to be thanking Dan or Dwight or the ML team for finally giving me something I want, ruined by unrelated branding and a ridiculous release. Now that they're made, we'll probably never see those looks again.

You want to make cool KITH crossover figures? Do it the right way. Make Spiderman in KITH street clothes. Do a Wolverine alt inspired by KITH branding or clothing from the ground-up. Not by hijacking one of the most beloved fighting games of all time. It actually is infuriating to think about. I suppose it's fitting, though, that a hypebeast brand would buy influence this way by riding on the coattails of something that has depth and an existing loyal fanbase.

I think the first question to Dan and Dwight at the next opportunity is what the exclusivity of the P2 deco is after this release. If its zero and can be released minus KITH branding... cool. Followed by how soon we might see P2 releases.

If there is no plan for P2 colors after this... yeah kinda fucked. And they should know fans are pissed.
