Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I think Florence does an accent but Scarlett doesn’t is bc she can. I think of Natasha having an accent but before Avengers I was concerned that Scarlett couldn’t do one. In my mind’s eye/ear Natasha speaks 5 or 6 languages and can do 5 or 6 accents in each of those languages.

Anecdotally kids accents change throughout all childhood. My Brit friends moved to the states when their kids were ten. 98% of their English accents are completely gone. Children are conformity machines. Why they make good little Stormtroopers.

I can attest. I was born in Virginia and left when I was nine, had the accent until I was 14, now have barely a trace apparently. (But, that was partly intentional as I purposely mimicked the other kids to stand out less.)

I don't think it's odd that Yelena has a Russian accent; she seems less Secret Agent and more Assassin/Mercenary, has no social network, and no real reason to renounce her Russianness. Plus Alexei also has one. Isn't she also living in Russia when we first meet her in Black Widow?

I thought of it. The Widow of it all. Which, my Mom didn't easily put it together that Yelena's sister was Natasha. I feel like they needed a photo of them together, or something, or for Alexei to mention Natasha by name. Did he? I had to pee during the limo scene and should have waited for the action part of the scene.

Also, Melina? No mention. Wish she'd just been the villain in Black Widow.
No, not by name.

Apparently Harbour really wants Melina/Weisz to return and I'd be down for that:

I like your explanation a lot, but also get the accent thing. I had 2 cousins born and raised in MI until their early teens, then moved to PA. After 5 years their accents were so think I teased them a lot. It still throws me 30 years later because I remember exactly how they sounded when we were kids. Ha!

There's a rumor that Thor 5 is being developed with Sam Hargrave as Marvels replacement for Taika. I don't really post rumors usually but this morning I posted in the One A Day thread my idea for Thor 5 to include Loki coming back by possessing Darcy and Kat Dennings effectively getting to play Lady Loki. I really feel that would be awesome and likely hilarious and just wanted the excuse to share the idea here.

Lady Loki is, at this point, the only acceptable way to bring Loki back to the MCU proper.

I'd be down for Lady Loki, but I'm not entirely sure I want Kat Dennings to be the one to bring her to life. No offense to you, Ru, but she's one of those actors that I can only take in small doses. I like Darcy well enough, but I don't need her as the lead of something. To be fair, I haven't seen that many things with Ket Dennings, but the way I picture it would be akin to when Zooey Deschanel did that Tin Man miniseries for Sci-Fi. She did a serviceable enough job, but I doubt she was the best person for the job.

Plus, wasn't Sylvie basically Lady Loki, even if she didn't have the comic-accurate dark hair?

Yeah, we already have a Lady Loki. And she did a good job when they gave her something to do in the Loki series. She seemed to get lost in season 2, if I'm remembering correctly.

And yes, someone other than Kat Dennings for a possession. Not sure she has the range to pull something like that off.

In any event, Hiddleston's in Doomsday, so something's going on with the character.

No offense taken, we're all stating opinions here!

The Loki in Doomsday is an alternate Loki though. I'm talking about original 616 Loki who was killed by Thanos. And I haven't seen everything Dennings has done, but I'm confident she could pull it off very well. Sylvie was a lady Loki, sure, but I'm talking about the version that was part of the Cabal during Dark Reign. I'm not suggesting they do a Lady Loki villain with Dennings as the lead either, but a supporting character in Thor 5.

Well - she's got another season of her latest TV show to shoot so it's probably a mew(t) mew(t) point.

Shifting Gears - just watched Brie Larson in AppleTV's "Lessons in Chemistry" - FANTASTIC show. Loved it. She is disturbingly skinny throughout, but her co-star is none other than BOB - Lewis Pullman.

Now I really want Carol in Doomsday and I really wanna see her and Bob back together. And power-wise, they might be ones to actually tussle well.

When we finished the show we rewatched The Marvels and I kinda forgot about Beast and Binary - really hope Monica hasn't been forgotten. Doubt she has, but I do want more of all these characters ASAP.

I really want Carol in Doomsday
Same. If not, then at least have her with Kamala in Secret Wars.
really hope Monica hasn't been forgotten
I totally get why it may seem like she has been, but my educated guess is her passing into the X-Men universe is the beginning of the incursion between that and the main MCU universe. Like the 2015 Secret Wars only it's these two universes instead of the 616 and Ultimates.
