Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

We just got home from a 3D matinee showing. Both my wife and I absolutely loved it. I'm still a little in shock at how superfantastic it was. It felt damn near a perfect film-adaptation of a Marvel comic property.
So glad I broke my own policy and went to a movie on opening weekend. I might even break another one of my policies and go a second time while it's still in theaters! I know, crazy right?!?!

I enjoyed it. Solid 3.5/5. Nothing remarkable, which is somehow enough to make it my favorite MCU movie since GOTG3.

I hated Thing's beard. I also didn't like the scene where

Thing walked into the synagogue and said he was only doing it to see Natasha Lyonne. Thing's arguably the most notable Jewish character in comics. I'll be charitable in my analysis of the scene, but let's lean in to his Judaism, not out.

I thought they captured the essence of the four pretty well.

One of the things I really appreciate is that they actually scored the music for the film as opposed to utilizing pop-culture rock anthems or employing pop artists to cut tracks for each project. After the success of GotG1, it seems virtually every damn film has used the same tired formula, trying to recapture that magic to varied degrees of success.

My only real nitpick (and it's trivial), is when big G is walking through New York and they have a close-up on his feet; his steps are waaay too rapid. I noticed it in the trailer and it seemed even more glaring in the film because right after that they cut to a shot of him towering above the buildings, and if you imagine his steps synching up with his shoulders, it's much slower and far more accurate to something of that size.
I've watched enough Godzilla films to know you gotta slow that shit way down to keep that suspension of disbelief.

Also, if Earth 828 or whatever has flying anti-gravitic cars, FtL travel and such, why the hell are they using combustion rocket engines to leave the atmosphere?

Really enjoyed this, but felt it could have used a little more time to breathe. It felt like none of the scenes were particularly long. Very rapid pace.

Pedro Pascal has sold me on his Reed Richards, though. He didn't just feel like Pedro Pascal, he felt like he was a character.

Biggest nitpick would have to be the cgi baby. It was very distracting at some points. Alternatively, Ben's cg was great.

I actually thought the CG for the baby was well done. Knowing it was CG pulled me out a couple times, though.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but this worries me after how they cut Marvels within an inch of its life, then cut it even more. I expect it's not nearly as severe, but I really don't like this trend.

Hah! I didn’t realize the baby was CGI! Unlike Krypto, who I was totally distracted by being CGI the whole time…

So...Questions
Who do we now think is in the FF spaceship...Doom? An adult Franklin?
Could Reed have accidently sent Galactus to our universe and not to the other side of theirs?

My main question from before I left the theater is this:
What about Galactus's ship, and it's super advanced technology floating around earth? I hope something big comes from it like Adamantium from the Celestial.

Caught a showing last night and had a blast. I agree it had a ton of heart, and the relationship between the 4 was great. It was really nice seeing Johnny be able to be smart for once as well. Sue stole the show for me, though. Thought Shalla was great as well- the space chase was a great tense scene. Really liked the final battle too, even if the movie didn't end like I thought it would (totally my fault for reading and believing spoilers, though). Seeing a true comic Galactus in all his might made my inner (and outer) nerd so happy.

I do agree that it could've used a little more breathing room, but I also admittedly liked that it had a pretty breakneck speed- it really helped sell that time was of the essence. Definitely want to see it at least one more time, but I definitely feel like it's one of the strongest entries in a while, even if it seems there was a bunch taken out (that I'm now curious to see).

Regarding the credits scene
I know it's pretty clearly supposed to be RDJ as Doom, but it did feel a little weird that they didn't show his face at all. Even if he couldn't be there on set that day to film, we know they have no issue using CGI or superimposing faces. Something about it didn't even feel like they were trying to keep his appearance secret (even though I'm sure that's the case), it just felt a little off. Someone I was with didn't even notice the mask at all- it was definitely visible, but not quiiiite the focus. But still- I'm excited for the future, to see Doom in all his glory! They nailed Galactus, so I'm hopeful they'll do the same with Doom.

It wasn't RDJr bc then Marvel would have to pay him 64.3 million dollars just to turn towards a camera. This version? Whatever a stand-in makes in England - 200 pounds?

This movie felt edited too tight. I avoided spoilers and managed to avoid seeing the trailers until after the movie and again - very glad I got to experience the movie on its terms and not marketing's terms - but also, so much stuff is missing! "First Steps" is a completely weird choice for a title since it starts four years in and then we're skipping another four. It's just a weird way to throw away opportunities to skip to the Big Show.

Like, they hired Natasha Lyonne for that? That scene where Ben goes inside I think was from an earlier point in the movie and pushed back which is why it lasts 13 seconds because why are all those people calmly chilling with no sense of dread? Then we see her again for four seconds underground and then nothing. They never even had a second *conversation*! That's just odd.

BTW - Galactus heads sold out everywhere around me. Big shocker.
